Help Picking a New TV

That video kinda explains why I'm so hesitant on OLED. If you have baby it ( be cognizant of your viewing habits ) and vary your content then I'd wager its not for me. I can go days playing the same game ( Especially RPGs) or watching the same program( binge watching series). Plasma kinda got around this by having a break in period( ugh 100 hours or so), then you were relatively good to go. My son and wife have left static images on our plasma tvs for hours and haven't had any burn in due to the tedious care I gave it when the tv was new. I'm don't think oleds have that option. I also don't see many videos showing long term oled burn in test with gaming. I'm talking 2 years or so with someone who plays more than an hour or 2 a day.

I'm not saying oled is bad tech, its just seeming more and more not for me and my gaming lifestyle. If it burns in 6 months to a year in due to how I'm using it, that's a waste of at least 1k on my part.

Another issue with OLED is lack of colors going into next gen.
Quantum Dot OLED's are coming and they will make the current ones look dated.

It was tempting getting a new TV this weekend but I held off. I still have the flicker on the top 1/3 for sure in something like NFS Heat, but in Outer Worlds it almost seems like that flicker is more noticeable on the whole screen. Could be something in that game though. Either way I think I should wait until CES like you said. New features, better tech, etc even if it means paying a bit more.

VaLLiancE Did you see any of the QLED stuff on the VGAs last night? They are trying to sell it as the best set for gaming. Thoughts?

It's great for gaming minus the lack of Dolby Vision.
Has some HDMI 2.1 features
4K/120 for example.

I am hoping for Samsung to announce DV support FW Update
or a better version of the Q9R/Q8R.

So wait I say...if nothing noteworthy is announced get the current sets for less.

I am starting to look at 8K TV's now for the Xbox Series X. I love getting new TVs!

We ordered a Q90 over the Black Friday sales, to retire the pretty crappy budget 1080p Tv we've had in the living room since the X1 launch. Scheduled to arrive Wednesday.

Finally going to jump to 4K. Both $479 but the LG has three hdmi ports instead of Samsung's two. I expect to have it for four years before I jump to 8K. Any thoughts or other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Is that pretty much what you are looking to spend? are you planning on buying one of the next gen consoles? You've probably already read these but here are the reviews for the sets from Rtings.

Ended up getting the Samsung Series 8 75" this morning. It comes in this weekend. I chose that over the TCL, they're the same price, because of the feet. The TCL would require me to reverse them to fit on my TV stand. The Samsung, with similar, and better specs in some cases, a little worse in others, feet are closer together. Had a gift card for $200 to BB and it came out to $1100ish at the end of the day. I wanted a bigger TV, and waiting for 2.1 would require me to also upgrade my receiver and I can't fathom spending $3-4k next year.

I liked the idea of the QLED, especially my last two TVs being Samsung, but yea the lack of Dolby Vision was a turn off. My luck right after I bought a DV-less TV that would become the norm. I'll wait until after CES and see what's doing.

Arrived today, and got it set up and going. I really like it so far, but I am missing the Philo and nhl apps. May have to get another fire stick to pull those in. I like that it autodetects the Scorpio and can turn it on from the tv remote and the remote will actually navigate the Xbox menu. Going to try to rewatch force awakens and last Jedi in 4K HDR before Friday since we're seeing the new one then. But, early reviews: highly recommended.
