Insomniac joins Playstation

IMO Microsoft missed the boat on a great developer, for pocket change to boot.

Well we don't know that Insomniac would have wanted that but if Microsoft had made the push Sony would have had probably outbid them. Insomniac is worth more to Sony than to Microsoft.

Yeah they have a history of working together and with Sunset Overdrive not doing well in sales and Spider-Man being one of the biggest hits of the generation it just makes more sense.

Another ‘ouch’ thread of accusations....Insomniac on the hotseat now:

Which means what? She got paid what she negotiated? Maybe she was a huge pain in the ass to work with? Who knows? Her post history doesn't make her seem like someone who plays well with others to me (grievance hound), but I don't know her, obviously. Maybe she got done dirty.

Insomniac hasn't seemed like a bad place before.

This happens all the time. I've spoken to a number of people who have been in the position of their direct reports making more than them. I know there are situations this would actually make sense (top surgeon who reports to a hospital director, etc.), but the situations I'm aware of it was literally a position "below" making more than a position "above". All the people involved were women, it was just a matter of:

1) What was your starting salary at the company?
2) What is your education level?
3) What is your experience level in your position and at the company?

I'm sure that there is some gender and racial bias out there, but it isn't always so.

You have to follow her to openly see her tweets on insomniac… https://mobile.twitter.com/racheldmark

My overall experience at @insomniacgames was so bad that not shortly after I resigned in 2010, I quit programming altogether.

——————

14/ In my exit interview I was told in no uncertain terms of a “handshake agreement” between studios to “prevent poaching”. If my resume turned up at @Naughty_Dog or nearby studios, Insomniac would get a call. Intimidated out of the industry whether I was ready to leave or not.

Every orchard has its bad apples it seems. It does sound like some of the worse ones left the company already. And Sol did say that they don't know what happened afterwards as communication and contact was not possible legally.

Hopefully Insomniac resolved it.

Cory Barlog bought it back into the spotlight on twitter so it's gained a lot more attention than it did first time.

Shame as IG have always come off as a really good place to work for everyone studio.

Not really worried about this stuff, if something is illegal the police should work it out, if it's something about harassment that's up to HR. I'm sick of these people going to social media to complain. If only a couple of people are complaining about something they could be disgruntled employees with an ax to grind etc. I know this sounds mean but saying you are "they/them" makes me question a persons intentions anyway, that just seems like attention seeking to me.

HR will do what they can to protect the company in the end.

And if one of them is still working at the company despite them knowing the issues that's not good.

Dang I didn’t know this happened over at naughty dog/Sony …

Microsoft too…..

wonder if Nintendo has anything in the closet

Yup. Like I said, every orchard has its bad apples and no one studio or company is perfect. There's always some shenanigans going on, whether it's in the spotlight or not.

Or it means it was investigated and found to have no merit, accusations don't automatically mean guilt and that frenzy of attention seekers did a lot to shake my faith in the "believe women" messaging that was going out.

Look at that girls bio on twitter it's all attention seeking internet stuff "BLM, they/them" and the tweet you posted also mentioned black trans lives, this reeks of someone looking for internet clout vs being a serious person to me.

It's a really s***ty time for those actually making the games.

Pretty sure MS will cut some jobs around this time next year.

Potential layoffs at Insomniac :(

How??? Regardless of what I think of the Spider-Man games, they are huge selling money makers from a studio that has pumped out 4 games in 5 years.

I assume the layoffs are going to be related to the multiplayer game they were making, but still, this studio has earned the right to be left alone.

Yeah, I think most of the layoffs will be centered around ABK, because job/staff overlay.

And I’m sure many will either leave because they don’t want to work under xbox/ms or leave because theyve been wanting something more or different, like all multiple new studios from former blizzard/Warcraft devs…that and employees who had stock options probably made some good money with the buyout.

Yeah, once the dust has settled on the acquisition, I'm pretty sure there are alot of positions that are redundant and will be cut. In fact it would surprise me if MS job cuts from the acquisition was in the hundreds if not thousand when it comes time to cut. Game industry is cold.
