Wait the Xbox or ps5? The Xbox looked like a car stereo amp, I guess the ps5 looks like a toilet seat and those vents could air dry your bottom after it’s sprays ya with ray tracing
So the PS5 is actually a bidet? I tried a bidet once when I was on my honeymoon in Costa Rica. I couldn't get enough.

Or, just watch a Youtube video.

Seriously, though, how many many times have you genuinly been stuck in a game? It is rare.
I am stuck in Dark Souls 3 and Ori at the moment :(. But I will just continue to use Google on my phone to get it resolved.

No idea how you got stuck on Ori.

Dark Souls is one of the rare games people could get stuck.

Japanese toilets are the bomb, or at least a great place to drop some.

Dev kit looks cool as f***, though I'm definitely making sure no one except gaming friends have to look at that design abomination lol

It’s beautiful man. In a 1970’s Sci-Fi kind of way. Lol
Some of the all black mock-ups I’ve seen look nice.

All of these "leaks" people post on other boards crack me up, why would a 3rd party developer have any info on 1st party launch games and what 1st party stuff overall would be shown at a reveal?

The quick summary (the last part also possibly reinforces the rumor that they’re trying to overclock what they have, causing heating issues):

• PS5 unit cost $450
• DRAM/NAND shortage causing problems; cancelled camera features
• new PSVR after PS5 launch
• many of PS5 launch games will also be on PS4
• Sony in wait-and-see approach, XboxSX price factor in PS5 price

Cooling system "unusually expensive at a few dollars per unit" when typically less than a dollar.

"Sony opted to lavish more on making sure heat dissipation from the powerful chips housed inside the console isn’t an issue."

Here’s the Bloomberg article. I put Yoshida’s quote in bold...interesting idea about sales.

Sony Is Struggling With PlayStation 5 Price Due to Costly Parts
Takashi MochizukiFebruary 13, 2020, 10:50 PM EST
  • May wait for Microsoft’s Xbox group to make first pricing move
Scarce components have pushed the manufacturing costs for Sony Corp.’s next PlayStation to around $450 per unit, forcing a difficult price-setting decision in its battle with Microsoft Corp., according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The Japanese conglomerate is preparing to gradually replace the six-year-old PS4 console, releasing its PlayStation 5 the same holiday season its archrival debuts the upcoming Xbox Series X. Sony typically finalizes a console’s price in February of the release year, followed by mass production in the spring. With the PS5, the company is taking a wait-and-see approach, said the people, asking not to be named because the details are private.

The PS4, released in 2013 at a retail price of $399, was estimated by IHS Markit to cost $381 to manufacture. With the $450unit cost and a similar gross margin, the PlayStation 5’s retail price would have to be at least $470. That would be a hard sell to consumers, considering Sony’s most expensive machine now is the $399.99 PS4 Pro and is often discounted, according to Macquarie Capital analyst Damian Thong.

“Consumers will benchmark their expectations based on the PS4 Pro and PS4,” Thong said. “If Sony prices above that, it would likely be to balance a need to offset higher materials cost, against risk to demand.”

Sony declined to comment.

The company’s biggest headache is ensuring a reliable supply of DRAM and NAND flash memory, with both in high demand as smartphone makers gear up for fifth-generation devices, according to people familiar with Sony’s operations. Samsung Electronics Co. just announced its Galaxy S20 product range, each variant of which will have 5G and a minimum of 12GB of RAM in the U.S.

Videogame companies often sell hardware at thin margins or even at a loss because they profit from lucrative game software and recurring online subscription services. Sony’s Chief Executive Officer Kenichiro Yoshida has said the business should be judged by the number of active users, not the number of hardware units sold. Some Sony games staff think it should sell the new console at a loss if necessary to match Microsoft’s price, while other Sony executives would prefer to make money as the company did with the PS4.

“We must keep PlayStation 5’s bill of materials under our control and we need to make the correct number of units in the initial production,” Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki said at an earnings briefing earlier this month.

Most of the components for the console have been locked down, the people said, including the cooling system, which is unusually expensive at a few dollars per unit. Typically, companies would spend less than a dollar, but Sony opted to lavish more on making sure heat dissipation from the powerful chips housed inside the console isn’t an issue.

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has had no impact so far on preparations for PlayStation 5 production, they said. The company has yet to decided how many PlayStation 5 units it will make in the first year, they added.

Separately, Sony plans to release a new version of the PlayStation VR virtual-reality headset, tentatively scheduled after the PlayStation 5 goes on sale, the people said.

Sony has already canceled some previously planned features for a new mirrorless camera due this year owing to the constrained DRAM supply, several people with knowledge of the matter said.

Sony executives are voicing patience about the next console’s pricing as they anticipate the transition to be a gradual one, said people familiar with its day-to-day operations. Many of the games launched for the PlayStation 5 will also be available to play on the predecessor machine, so revenue from software and related network services is expected to keep the business performance intact. Microsoft and Sony are both expanding their respective online subscription services, revenue from which may allow them greater flexibility on hardware pricing.

People within the PlayStation business unit said a key factor in deciding the ultimate PlayStation 5 retail price will be where Microsoft sets its price for the next-generation Xbox Series X. Microsoft is widely expected to hold that information back until the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles in June.

There is pressure from CFO Totoki for Sony to provide more transparency and information in the buildup to the PS5’s release, which has caused some consternation internally. Asked about when he expects Sony to provide guidance on the gaming business outlook for the new fiscal year, Totoki said the plan is no different from the recent past, meaning the guidance can be expected around the end of April.

If the company takes longer than usual, analysts may look to its next investor relations meeting to glean hints about the new console’s retail price. The company held that meeting in late May last year.

Good, hopefully they can be kept cool without the fans maxing out and sounding like a jet engine after a couple minutes ala launch PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Funny that people are drawing the conclusion that an expensive cooling solution means that they are overclocking weak hardware, why is the XSX built the way it is? that's not a normal console form factor either. It leads me to believe that they are packing something in there that's pretty powerful.

I've also seen others drawing false comparisons between the PS5 having cross gen games and the XSX, the difference is Sony hasn't announced any cross gen first party games, there will be 3rd party cross gen games on both consoles obviously but as far as Sony first party I don't think they have anything announced beyond Ghost of Tsushima anyway other than WiLD which is rumored to now be a cross gen game but that's not confirmed.

$450 worth of hardware is kinda weak unless it's custom as a mofo.

Not really, they get better pricing on stuff than we do plus that's just the cost for the parts that's not counting production and shipping costs, this is a console not a high end gaming PC.

Yeah man, for real. My PS4 Pro sounded like its about to blast off when I was playing Days Gone and Uncharted Lost Legacy. I kept getting in trouble for having the TV volume so high but it just couldn’t be helped. I should probably invest in a good gaming headset. I hope they do something to keep it as quiet as can be and/or make it easier to keep the inside of the console dust-free. The PS4 Pro is locked up so tight it’ll take a master thief to get up in there to clean it.

And I have a second gen PS4 Pro which is supposed to be a bit quieter than the launch PS4 Pro. I can't even imagine how bad the launch ones are.

Needs to be $550 or more to make(with them taking a loss and selling for less)
$450 to make sounds like a 8.4-9.2 TF console and that's disappointing.

How much more do you think the XSX is costing MS? they are both using the same tech from the same vendor lol. Nobody is taking a $100 loss on hardware the X1X cost $499 and it'll have been 3 years since it released, do you think in 3 years they only got 2-3 more TF worth of GPU power especially when AMD has advanced to RDNA?

Depends on if XSX is 12TF

I don't know that I've seen the argument you're arguing against but if anyone makes that assumption they're stupid. Pushing any silicon as far as it can go will generate heat issues - whether it's a powerhouse or s donkey. If they are struggling with heat and have to because that's the only way to get what they need out of the silicon, that would be a concern. If it's because they want to deliver as much as possible, that's fine. They'll have to make final clock decisions soon enough, and people are just going to make whatever they want to believe be what they perceive.

Yeah there are quite a few people on the other forums trying to make that point and it's silly. This more advanced tech is going to need better cooling than the stuff that went into the consoles we have now, SSD's, more capable GPU and CPU with more/faster RAM are going to require a pretty hefty cooling solution for a console form factor, hell the XSX is built the way it is for that reason.

I really don't think they'd release a console that has to push that hard to hit 9.2TF, some people are hanging on to a rumor that they were having heating issues (same rumors were going around in 2013 for PS4) or that Sony was originally planning on 2019 and then delayed it a year for BC. That same rumor said they changed their plans in 2017 which would have given them plenty of time to change direction, hell there would be no way they planned on having hardware based RT in a 2019 console but people want to keep creating drama for the sake of it for some reason.
