The article isn't about Hillary or 2016 at all. Hillary didn't go to these places and talk to anyone about anything.
People don't understand why average middle to lower class people keep voting Trump, because they don't really try and understand it. Trump's statement about getting Mexico to pay for the wall was dumb, but a wall was not some pie in the sky idea. It is overly expensive and not worth it, but that's besides the point. I doubt the wall was the big thing for people in Michigan and Ohio. What he did talk to those people about is jobs moving overseas and bringing them back. Sure, it was a lot of BS, but people bought it and still are. He's kept unemployment low (mostly from dumb luck and an economy that was on an upward swing anyway).
They see Bernie's ideas as more idealism and less practical solutions. Bernie lost in 2016 to Hillary because he couldn't explain anything he said in great detail, and ultimately always fumbled on the "how are you going to pay for this" question (which isn't fair, only Democrats have to answer that). To say that they are wrong or misinformed isn't totally wrong, but it is dangerous ti dismiss it. I read policies directly from Bernie's website and I question how a lot of this will ever work (and usually land on that it won't work).
