16GB of GDDR6 shared graphics memory and they don't have an OS and other programs eating up 6-10GB at any given moment. Then the PS5 is supposedly using a fast SSD for virtual ram as well. I wonder how many games will have no load times on the PS5 and then when they go to port it over the the PC they expect everyone to have these super fast NVMEs. And depending on what Nvidia decides to do with graphics memory they could expect us to have between 16-20GB of graphics memory also.

That's where you're wrong. Consoles do indeed have memory eaten up but their OS's at all times. Xbox and PS4 for example have a 3GB reservations and only have 5GB's available to devs for games. Also, if you have 10GB's eaten up by JUST your OS you have a problem. I have 7GB's used and I have a dozen + programs running in the background and chrome actively open with 4 tabs. If I have no programs open it's a lot less.

I know it's been a while since everyone looked at the RULES list on the first page, but console vs. PC discussion in this thread is prohibited.

Let's shy away from talk straying into that.

I wonder who that guy was at TXB who would berate me for saying that building a PC was too difficult and that I liked having a console UI and playing with a controller. It's not as plug and play as they made it out to be, especially when you are trying to stick to a budget. However, I don't think I would still be playing games at all if I didn't make the switch to PC. It really does fit my lifestyle now much better than consoles.

I think probably one of the key issues I've had on PC is this consistent stutter or hitching that got progressively better as I upgraded the hardware. First I went from a i5-6400 to a Ryzen 1600 AF then I went from 2133mhz ram to 3000mhz ram. So the hitching and stuttering was less frequent at that point, but still noticeable. So I decided to do a little experiment and unload the XMP profile for the 3000mhz ram and run it alongside my 2133mhz ram for a total of 32gb of ram.

And the hitching FINALLY went away. So I have another 16GB of 3000mhz ram on the way.

Don't believe people telling you you don't need 32gb of ram for gaming. If your games are playing fine then 16gb are enough, but if you are experiencing hitching and stuttering then you might want to look at getting an additional 16gb before the price hike on ram.

Yeah a great example of this is Fallout 4. When the game launched alot of PC players were getting stutters. These were people with primarily 8gigs total.
I think it was Digital Foundry or some other PC tech youtuber that demonstrated it was an issue with less ram and ram speed.
DDR4 2666mhz and greater paired with 16gigs or more cleared the issue in most cases.

Could also be because Bugthesda games usually have some kind of atrocious memory leak and using an engine that came out when the dinosaurs roamed probably also contributed.

I just saw this video that talked about "mesh shaders" like it was this huge leap in performance. I can't help but to wonder what the hell AMD was thinking by not having these features available for RDNA 1. The lowest common denominator is already moving up, but in addition you lose a lot of the efficiency gains by not implementing mesh shaders and variable rate shading into the RX 5700 series cards.

Plainview runs a tight ship...

I had to downclock my ram to 2666mhz when I added another 16GB of ram just to get it stable. So now it's 32gb at 2666mhz. It's funny how nobody tells you that XMP is not really made for AMD motherboards and that you might have to set your timings manually.

On a side note, Fallout 4 is stuttering now with a ton of mods installed. So I did a few different things, turned off vsync, locked the framerate at 60 in Nvidia control panel and installed a "precombine fix" mod, and uninstalled any mod that breaks precombines. It's better but not good enough considering that everything else I play is buttery smooth now.

DirectX 12 Ultimate is getting that name for a reason. Microsoft built this API in an attempt to bring together cutting-edge development and multiple generations of hardware. This is possible because DirectX 12 Ultimate maintains compatibility with older GPUs and consoles that won’t support all of its features. So developers can make games optimized for DirectX 12 Ultimate and its features, and those games will still work properly on hardware that wasn’t made for DirectX 12 Ultimate.

Microsoft thinks this will lead to a “virtuous cycle” where developers no longer hold back their support for hardware features. The company wants to break that cycle with this unifying graphics API. - Source

Wait won’t those be thousands? I am thinking $1500 and closer to building now. I like that setup in the video, the all black, how everything works together by brand but I would get a motherboard with built in WiFi. Also a more powerful GPU and double the ram.

If you want a more powerful GPU than a 5700xt you're going to lose that "everything works together by brand" since there's no better AMD GPU available. Which isn't the end of the world anyhow.

I didn't watch the video but I'm happy with the 5700xt, knowing that I have a 4k monitor with poor hdr and only 60fps max. But the next Navi with rdna2 and RT, whenever those finally hit, will be primo.

I went heavy on CPU and RAM because I do development and the 3900x with 64 GB plus my two PCI 4.0 nvme ssds make that sweet. That's overkill for gaming, though, but these Zen 2 CPUs are the s***.

Would this all look good on my 65” Sony 4K TV?

These budget builders on Youtube just have to keep pushing out content. If they give you some BS build you are the one that has to live with it for 2-3 years. Building around a 6 core 12 thread CPU seems like a huge risk right now with consoles having 8 cores and 16 threads. There are already developers saying they are just throwing all the physics they can at those next gen CPUs.

The 570s are flying off the shelves, all the tech channels are melting.

All newer GPUs are moving to PCI-E 4.0 so you were going to have to upgrade anyway unless you bought an X570 mobo (and a Zen 2 CPU). The B550 is scheduled to come out in June.

2080 ti is the new mid-range with the 3060ti supposedly running on par with a 2080ti with the same ray tracing performance.

Nvidia has something called Nvcache that's supposed to work with SSDs.

Glad I spring for an X570 board, even though I don't care or have the need for PCI-E 4.0 at the moment. In the future it could become relevant. At this time the only thing PCI-E 4.0 is good for is NVMe drives/NVMe RAIDs.

Most of Nvidia and all of AMD's current GPU lineup will be made obsolete once developers abandon baked lighting. That demo was running at only 1440p/30. That's going to be too taxing for all but the RTX 2080 and above. And highly doubt that they will scale down the graphics in a way that will increase the development time and cost just to port over to the PC. Developers usually have the attitude that the PC should be higher end than consoles.

I hope they stop ignoring DLSS. It's easy to implement now.

Yeah, there is no way around it. Don't upgrade without it.

I mean that depends on what kind of person you are. If you upgrade every year and don't care about NVMe as much then it doesn't matter at this point in time. Lots of people will upgrade to Z490/ intel 10th gen and that doesn't have PCI-E 4.0

Guys I'd love some help on a keyboard.

I want it to be mechanical keys, wireless capable, and 60% (apparently) but I don't know what's reliable etc for these types of keyboard manufacturers.

Any suggestions (the cheaper the better of course, but quality is also important)

I've lost so much money spilling pop or beer on my ergonomic MS keyboards and I'm done with that. Love an ergonomic layout to be honest, but time to just get a straight old fashioned layout and learn to use it.

Lol, I've been trying to figure this out for a couple months now.
