Events not playing out as they did in history that I don't remember anyway are hardly the same thing. This is a fundamental, pervasive, behavioral truth with centuries of precedent along with contemporary reinforcement from personal observation. It messes with me every time i see it done in a historical context. Never bugs me with future based stuff, and contextually works with contemporary. It also depends on style and if it's trying to be somewhat grounded or not. AC games definitely try to work the angle of fitting it in a more believable setting so it just sorta falls apart. I've never been a fan of the "it's not real so you can do what you want" argument. Sure, you can do what you want, but if you want people to buy what you are selling to them narratively, there are certainly ways that work better than others.
You're prob correct, I usually never play as a female if given a choice I play as a white male, but alexios is so bad it hurts hearing him in cutscenes lol. I rather take Kasssandra eventhough it's more unrealistic.

Can't. It's a Historical fiction. It pulls me out too much. She'd be treated very differently in those times, and It just sticks out the whole time.

Yeah, I mean, shooting arrows that phase through rock and buildings are cool, but a woman? WTF, Boobisoft? (Sarcasm y should be implied, but phone makes it difficult. Alexios was Godawful, though, while Kassandra was entertaining even if not historically canon).

Do they have arrows like that? Must not have gotten there yet- That's dumb too. I definitely prefered the more grounded AC games too. Along a lot of the stupid armour's. They keep edging toward Fantasy RPG and that isnt why I like AC games.

Your lazy, casual dismissive attitude there seems to imply I have problem with there being a woman to play as. What I dont like is that if they are going to do that, then she should not just be a palate swap with Alexios.

The way they navigate the world would be totally different and might even have some educational value as well as an opportunity to make it more interesting. And they could do it in a way for her to be badass without making the historical setting seem inconsequential.

But yeah, boobiesoft, amirite?

But...but... it is different to the man, sexist.

Nothing wrong with boobies-oft:grin:

She was TERRIBLE! the voice acting alone was enough to make me never consider using her, she sounded like a cartoon character, like someone in drama class faking an accent for the first time. Alexios was much better, yeah his accent sounded forced too but it was miles beyond hers and when he actually had to show emotion he did a great job unlike the actress they chose for Kassandra. Everyone can have their own opinion but damn I thought she was terrible, 2/3's of players chose him over her.

I liked them going a bit more fantasy, it changed it up a bit the old formula was getting a little stale. Valhalla sounds like it's going to be more grounded than Odyssey, at least that's what the devs are saying in interviews.

I think this is a decent point until you dig into the principle of "Suspend of belief or believability" that any frictional work (books, movies, game) creators needs to know.

Many people conflict believability vs possibility. All work of frictions (game or otherwise) is about the formal. Good frictions have cohesive believabilities, that isn't always possible in reality, the same way Bad frictions may have the possibilities, but not believability.

An example, Frozen or any good cartoons. We know cartoons are not real, we know talking furniture & animals are not real. But we can suspend that belief as long as there are rules & the world is believable.

I give another extreme example to illustrate my point.
Say a game set in ancient Japan when samurai fought each other. Which one is more off-putting
1) Your main character is a samurai that has a magic sword that can cast lighting, & love child of an Oni & pleasant woman or
2) Every other samurai is a red hair hot chick, & the other half morbidly obese hairy chest Eskimos

Most people probably would accept 1 better, even though magic & Oni are not real, as people can suspend the belief. 2 might be more possible, but its less "believable" & much harder to fill "the suspend of belief"

I can elaborate more but I think people get the idea.

To summarise, just because you are creating friction, doesn't mean anything goes. Believability, cohesiveness, rules need to exist. Just because something can be possible, doesn't mean it makes frictional work "believable"

That was why I pointed out the sarcasm font.

I think the bigger insult is that Alexandrios is such a tool. I waited late enough to get the game that I'd already heard it, and I enjoyed Kassandra's personality so I didn't care as much. But, yeah, half of my difficult situations later in the game would be hiding way the heck away and shooting ghost arrows through buildings/rock/whatever.

It is all about context in the end. I haven't played Odeyssey but I assume it follows all others and tells the story of the main character? When you then add gender choice as more of a cosmetic you character becomes less grounded.

In AC3(Ithink) you had the twins, the female inclusion wasn't cosmetic, she was firmly grounded in the story. It worked.

It is why RPGs seldom tell a charcter story and tell more of a world story. That way any character created fits, and helps keep players immersed.

You are correct. If something is not expectation, or norm, and you can explain ( I still don’t buy the breath though skin to justified the outfit, or lack of it of quiet I’m MGS5) it I’m a believable way, I am all for it.

instead of female Viking, we can have the female choice as shield maiden and have unique skills and leveling, that would be even better if you ask me. But I think it will also increase amount of work.

For me, it is one or the other. You want a female viking lead, fine, but comit to it, add context to it, and you're golden. I doubt any interested in the game would sudddenly lose it because the lead is female.

Lol wut, she's great, among the better voice acted characters in the series.

I still managed to misinterpret, lol. My bad if I got it wrong.

I meant what I said, she's TERRIBLE!! lol especially coming after Bayek in Origins who probably had the best voice acting in the series.

I still have Odyssey in plastic behind the rest of my games. Was saving it for a drought period where I didn't want to play any of what I had but RDR2 basically prevented that from happening, hahaha. Now I'll probably be picking up Valhalla without every trying Odyssey. I have to say I wasn't a huge fan of the way the game played in Origins, so knowing they're sticking with that style has me a little reticent about even getting Valhalla, but I'm quite interested in the viking premise...

I wanna play Odyssey but was waiting for a price drop. Still trying to sell it for £60.

Oh man, only reason I picked it up is it was like $20 less than 2 months after it released, haha. I certainly would've made an effort to play it if I'd paid full price...

I m sure I missed some deals between December and May while I was focused on PS4 exclusives. I'm sure another will come soon enough.

Ubisoft are as far to the opposite of Nintendo when it comes to having sales. My guess is it'll be under $25 again within a month.
Not sure if that first sentence is good or bad. Last Nintendo I really played was the Gamecube.

Only game with any substantial price drop I've seen is Mario and Rabbids, and that's not really a pure Nintendo game either. Zelda and Mario odyssey still full price on the e-shop, it's insane imo.
Ubisoft seems to have sales all the time on xbox and ps store.

I very rarely see price drops on Switch system or their games. Nintendo knows people will pay full price those greedy f***. I’ve been trying to find one to buy lol.

Yep, on the plus side you can sell a used switch for close to full price, I did a year ago and bought a new one with the upgraded battery a few months ago for just a few bucks more than I sold the old one for lol

The creative director stepped down today due to allegations that he had affairs with co-workers and didn't disclose to them that he was married. Honestly while that's a s*** thing to do I don't believe any of us need to know this kind of thing that's between him and those women and his family, as far as I can tell nothing was considered sexual harassment so why drag him through the mud publicly? Some of this s*** is going too far, looks like he deleted his twitter account too.
