What movies have you seen recently?

Started a rewatch of Lynch's Dune. Couldn't make it more than 30 minutes. The movie has NOT aged well.

Forced myself to finish it. Actually ended up enjoying a lot more of it than I thought I would.

The bad: The campiness of the villains are LAME. Most of the special effects are terrible. The movie feels super rushed in some important places.

The good: some shots are quite good. The overall story was epic and has quite a few zany concepts!

I think Lynch was just ahead of his time with some of the things he wanted to accomplish. The remake is going to be fantastic.

I haven't seen the original, but I need to read Dune before the remake comes out. I'm really looking forward to it, and it'd be nice to know the story beforehand.

I picked up Jaws 45th Anniversary 4K Edition for $20 the other day. I didn’t even know it was hitting 4K. One of my all time favorite movies. Will check it out soon.

I read it at the beginning of the year and really enjoyed it. Long as hell though..

One more thing about Dune that I loved: The internal dialogue that was narrated by the characters.

Edit: Gonna have to hunt down the Sci-Fi Channel Miniseries (there are two of them) now...

Sci-Fi Channel's Dune: eh

The miniseries certainly elaborates on the lore in many ways, but was inferior due to the poor acting and art design. It also made me realize how fantastic & effective the internal dialogue is in Lynch's film. Interestingly, the Weirding Module (sonic weapon from Lynch's film), is not in the miniseries, as it wasn't even in the book.

The Call of the Wild: I liked it
Yeah, the CGI dogs are rough, but I liked the story and adventure. Also, the growth of the dog is surprisingly fleshed out.

Lion King (remake): fell asleep
I can't say much about it except it put me to sleep.

The King of Staten Island - 👍 👍

Real good coming of age dramedy by Judd Apatow and Pete Davidson. I don't personally care for him very much, but he nailed this role as a hateable loser.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Bill Burr killed it in this movie too. I guess he can act? Didn't know that!

You Should Have Left: decent horror flick

No gore, just psych horror (more of a light horror, to be sure). Nice photography and good acting from Kevin Bacon.

I got the Dark Knight trilogy in 4K for Father’s Day and watched it all over the weekend. Dark Knight and Rises looked stunning! and boy does the Dark Knight still hold up as one of the greatest films of all time. While I still enjoy Rises for the most part it didn’t live up to the high bar that was Dark Knight, but still a worthy ending to the trilogy. Begins still remains one of the better origin story films. If you haven’t picked this set up in 4K yet I highly recommend.

Thye Hobbit Trilogy - Decent, but not sure they needed to be as long as they were. Really didn't see the need for tge Dwarve & Elf love story either.

I watched the entire thing again recently. I enjoy it for the most part. They definitely could have told this entire story in two films, it was still great being back in this world though.
