The Last of Us Part 2 - New Trailer Contains Spoilers

The downgrade videos going around surprised me. It's near ubisoft level downgrade in some scenes from the 2018 build. Lighting, shadows, and even textures took a hit.
I saw those too, but chose not to say anything. Didn't want ruffle any feathers.

Yeah, I mean its indisputable. Doesn't take away from the fact that it's a great game. Something about the lighting quality and shadows back when I saw the 2018 looked too good though

That's a cool looking controller. But it doesn't hold up even in the slightest to my newly acquired Cyberpunk 2077 controller for the Xbox. Its too bad my sweaty hands defile its beauty.

Some of them are representing things that are artistic changes as downgrades though, there are also videos showing how it has improved graphically. This game isn't perfect graphically but it looks great. My only real gripe about the visuals is that the NPC's could have more detail in their faces and that the early stage infected hair looks pretty bad, not as in like it hasn't been washed but like streamers sticking out of a skull. They also need to let us turn film grain and chromatic aberration off but I doubt that'll happen.

The first game not only told a better, far more interesting story, but it was also, at the time, unique in many ways whereas this game really doesn't add much to the gameplay. Things like going prone and rope navigation puzzles are the biggest changes to the formula and they're neigh on trivial in the grand scheme of things. The impact on gameplay adding a "jump" button had was negligible compared to what they suggested it does for the game. That said, I certainly don't hate the game as much as so many others do, justifying the events of the previous game as some sort of argument against how this one's narrative plays out.

Some of the things they were going for fell flat for me and some of the things I assume they thought were deep and meaningful I didn't give 2 seconds of thought to, but if anything I think the big controversial moment in the game is one of the ballsiest things the game does and I have no grievances with it whatsoever. I went to the subreddit and had a pretty good laugh at all the memes though. The ending is lame AF, not even because of how it goes down, but mostly in just how it's unnecessarily dragged out for way too long. The game by no means deserves the level of acclaim it's getting though. I'd give this game a 7.2 if I'm feeling generous, by no means a masterpiece. Everyone who hates it seems to only hate it because of the story, and same with those who are loving it, but the story should never be the only factor in scoring a game, so...

The people who are upset about ....seem to only know about that, there is so much more to the game than that. I still think the 2nd half is better than the first half and I do agree the ending was a bit drawn out, I have no problem with the way it ended but yeah it could have been more tightly done. I love that they have NG+ available right when you finish it vs having to wait for a patch like happens with so many games now, I won't be playing this again until the PS5 comes out though and see if we get any upgrades.

People also ended up getting bothered over some things that ended up not being true. Almost half this thread looks kind of silly now that the game is out.

Just finished the game today and wow, the way the game toys with your emotions was an awesome experience. Graphics are way up there, lighting is top notch. I just loved how the narrative changes so much throughout the game and makes you feel a certain way, then as you continue, your sentiment changes. That right there is sign of a great story telling and character development.

They have definitely kicked it up a notch with the memorable enemy fights:

that tower of clickers and hospital lower level WOW

I'm a moderate Halo fan, but I'd happily bet you that the review scores will be below TLOU 2, and the user scores will be quite a bit higher than 3.5.

I have the same issues with this game that most people do. It's like a whole different writing team took over, and only knew a bit about the first one. As I said before, the details and presentation are top-notch, and the environments, suspense, and atmosphere are fantastic.

I'm not quite done with it yet, and although I read all the leaks, this still this has left a sour taste in my mouth. If there hadn't been a part one, I wouldn't care as much. But when comparing it to the first one from a character/story perspective.....yeahhhhh.

I've read close to 100 user reviews already, and some are obviously made up. But there are A LOT of fans of ND and the first one who have written very extensive reviews, expressing anger and frustration over just the story. I can't disagree. It's still a good game with amazing production (now I wish I had a Pro!), but it's not what I was hoping it would be after waiting so long.

I'm curious now what exactly it is that you think is so bad? I have to feel like you came in expecting and maybe wanting it to be bad because of false stories and tweets you posted.

The user reviews are completely embarrassing really because even those who seem to be legitimately unhappy don't really have reasons for why the stories is supposedly bad. Not getting what you want isn't an argument for a story being bad or feeling like it was written by someone else. There isn't even much reason to think most of them played the game since the early claims being bad were based on things that weren't true and because of that everyone knew it would be review bombed.

No question some want the adventures of Joel and Ellie again and there is nothing wrong with wanting that but not getting that isn't an indication of bad storytelling. They could have done that for fan service but it would have been the wrong call. This isn't Uncharted so it would just be a rehash.

Ellie's actions aren't out of character. People may not want her to do some of the things she does but again that isn't an indication of bad storytelling either. Yeah I wanted her to stay at the farm but her not doing it makes complete sense. Nothing she does feels off when you consider what happens.

Its fine to not want a new character but in terms of critique the question is does it add to the game or take away and if people don't like her as a character (not for the reason of her killing Joel) than that is a legit complaint but just being a new character isn't really much of a viable complaint. I found it hard to warm up to her for while but that was the whole point. Of course if you can't connect with her and the other characters that is going to be a problem but there is no reason for that beyond not being able to get over Joel dying and I think that is silly.

And I'm sure many wanted more of a black and white story where Ellie is so obviously in the right and the villain is so obviously wrong. Which is why you have people saying Ellie made a "heel turn" despite that not being true at all.

Its a 10 for me

I wouldn't give it a 10 (I give it a 9) although I'm still thinking about it after finishing it a couple of days ago, it does have some lasting impact. I agree completely with the rest of the post though. Main reason I can't give it a 10 is not so much what they did do but
the fact that they rushed so much early on. I think they should have had a couple of hours that showed us Joel and Ellie traveling to/arriving in Jackson, Ellie meeting DIna and Jesse with us and allow us to get to know them more along with her so we could care about them, then they could move on and do what they did. Most people I've talked to don't like Dina and it's not because she was "replacing" Joel they just don't like the personality they gave her and honestly I agree with them, plus that relationship went from zero to a thousand off of a kiss lol. I did like the character of Jesse and I wish we had gotten to see more of him or even get a chance to play as him a bit.

I have no problem with Dina but I think that maybe they could have included her or/and maybe Jesse in the flashbacks in some way to help establish what their relationships were like previously. Similar to how they established Abby and Owen's in a short amount of time.

Shout out to poor Alice though

I actually started to care more about Abby's crew than anyone on Ellie's side, of course we got more time with them because we knew nothing about her and they had to build them up a bit so we could appreciate that helping Abby achieve her goal of killing Joel ended up getting them all killed. In the end both Ellie and Abby lost everything and gained nothing and I was totally fine with them letting Abby live which seems to be another point of contention for some people, I think killing her would have been a huge mistake. I actually felt more sympathy for her than I did Ellie as the game went on, from a gameplay perspective I thought she was more fun to use because I liked her melee moves better, she could run faster at times and some of her weapons were pretty freaking cool :)

I agree on Alice, poor pup! It's funny how killing fictional people in a game is no big deal but killing a dog just hits the soul lol.

It makes sense to want her to die when she kills Joel and it makes sense to not be thrilled when you have to play because the game wants you to but by the time its all done I don't see how she could be viewed as being more deserving to die than Joel was. It does seem like the #1 complaint is Joel dies and you play as his killer but the take away from the first game shouldn't be wow Joel is a badass who just killed all those Fireflies. You should feel more conflicted about what he did in which case you should be way more sympathetic towards Abby and you can be sympathetic towards while still being upset Joel died. Now if Ellie died instead of Joel I wouldn't get over that but isn't close to the same thing when you consider the story arc of the first game so it just wouldn't make sense.

It does make sense if you view Alice as the only one who dies that is truly innocent

OK people who've beaten it, I just downloaded today. Was out of town last weekend and my daughter who's just turning 15 wanted to watch me play it because she watched me play the original a couple years ago. Won't be back with me until Sunday. How much worse is it than the first game in terms of adult material? She liked Ellie and Joel so I'm wondering if she'll lose interest quick anyways. I guess at 15 she can handle anything but want to hear your thoughts.

More violent and there is a very short sex scene later in the game

A 10 without mp modes is impossible for my taste.
No mp is the least of this games problems imo.
The first game is a 9.5 for me (gameplay drags it down from being perfect) and this without touching the mp.
This is a trainwreck of a story from the synopsis I've read and the story was a 10 last time around, gameplay a 7 and everything else (music, graphics e.t.c) pretty much 9-10.

Keep in mind that much of what was floating around in this thread and elsewhere was either wrong or missing lots of important context.

That's absolutely a downer too, but this is about the story my friend, not sure if it's my fault you' misunderstood my post?

Well I read the thread and have seen your posts in it so I do have trouble taking you seriously because of them but I would honestly like to hear what you you think is so bad about it (in spoilers)
