Not really. It isn't like 1TB is that much better on fully fledged 4K console. Isf the S only does 2 then the X only does 4. You still gotta spend extra dollars for more space.

I dread to think how much a PS5 external SSD would cost aswell.
That’s the 2nd part of what I said. It will end up closing the price gap since you need to spend money on external HD ( all next gen consoles) that defeat the cost benefit while being an inferior version.

also, a thought came to mind about Somy SSD harddisk. Since they use specialized fast SSD, then what happened when you have to use standard SSD. That will destroy any SSD link advantage and Bell and whistle since developers will now need to design games with standard SSD drive in mind.

otherwise. Sony need specialise ext SSD Drive that will cost a kidney.

Price gap doesn't really change if you have to spend more on all skus. I know full well I'm not buying these overpriced propriatary storage expansions.

Don't think you can use a normal SSD. Maybe for BC games like on XSX/S.

You won’t be able to use a SSD that isn’t at least equal to or better in performance than the PS5 SSD. Otherwise games won’t play. I notice Xbox uses a heat sink on the SSD to make sure the performance doesn’t degrade due to heat as the SSD must perform at stated level. 3rd party SSD’s might have to be slightly more powerful than the PS5 stock SSD to take into account any performance degradation.

The absolute price gap doesn‘t , the relative % price gap does however.

If some retailers have to cancel orders, how will that work? Do they cancel based on who got their preorders in last?

I got my preorder in the exact minute the link was tweeted out, by Wario, for Amazon. I would think my preorder would be safe because of that.

I had one in the cart from Best Buy but the site kept experiencing errors and wouldn’t let me checkout. Eventually I just gave up.

Amazon is russian roulette. The last three console releases/preorders I did with them, I got in before other people, all missed delivery date. Amazon is a disaster when it comes to preordering.

I guess that could happen, but it has not ever happened to me with any pre order product. Crossing fingers.

Demon Souls looks amazing and next gen. If the game launches with the PS5 I might postpone building my new gaming PC till next year and get a PS5 instead. I played the hell out of DS on PS3 and one of the many that got to play it first (purchased from play-asia).

I think the rendering looks pretty next gen, but I was kinda sad to see the same clunky animations and stiff movement. It's a remake though, I guess. Seeing the big Demon guy swiping the player with the tiny shield and him not staggering back or anything kinda took me out of the Next Gen feeling. Definitely a huge step up from previous games tho...

They did the same thing to my Elite 2 controller order. I had my preorder in as I was watching it announced at E3, and a controller is certainly nowhere near the demand as a full on console. I had to be one of the very first few to preorder in the world. Still the entire order got lost for days, then I go to cancel it, and moments later it magically ships.

I ordered an HDMI switch off there two weeks ago, and after the delivery gets missed, I get an e-mail saying "maybe tomorrow, or maybe you want to request a refund". Like really? I understand problems happen, but they don't even seem to know if it shipped or not.

Always get a refund and buy elsewhere.

To be fair we haven't had a MSRP jump for videogames since 2005. We were due one with the increasing production costs.
Not sure I agree with this. There is just a base version offered. Usually it's the 80 limited editions and even 100 for some games. Not to mention all the microtransactions these companies rake in. I'm not feeling a base price increase at all.

That, and there comes a price point where you end up sell fewer units because you've crossed that threshold that people are willing to pay. I know at 60, for most games I just wait until a price drop now where I used to just buy it all.

PlayStation 5 Launch Day Games from SIE Worldwide Studios

  • Astro’s Playroom (Japan Studio) – pre-installed on PS5
  • Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games / Japan Studio) – US$69.99/¥7,900/€79.99 (RRP)
  • Destruction All Stars (Lucid Games / XDEV) – US$69.99/¥7,900/€79.99 (RRP)
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac Games) – US$49.99/¥5,900/€59.99 (RRP)
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Mile Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac Games) – US$69.99/¥7,900/€79.99 (RRP)
  • Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV) – US$59.99/¥6,900/€69.99 (RRP)

EEEK. That kinda hurts. And BC is super gimped it looks like too. Spiderman will be good, and I'm actually quite intrigued by Destruction All stars, but that is NOT a great lineup for not having access to all your old games.

Damn, I knew they said preorders would be limited, but i didn't think they'd sell out on Amazon in a minute. Oh well, no PS5 for me at launch i guess. hopeully the X is easier to get.

I’m pretty sure here in the UK games jumped from £40 to £50/55 when the XOne and PS4 launched.

PS5 Backwards Compatibility: 99% Of PS4 Games Will Be Playable, Sony Boss Says

Unless you are talking about PS3/2/1 games?

Eventually?
The PS5 event definitely did not make that apparent. It said select did it not during that PS4 montage?

The event didn't make a lot of things apparent that they should have. We didn't even know Demon Souls was a launch title.

I didn't see anywhere it said eventually?

I just read the Washington Post interview and saw this as well:

While it wasn’t mentioned in Sony’s official announcement, developers of certain games later confirmed that PS5 exclusives like “Horizon: Forbidden West” and “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” aren’t exclusive at all. They’re both releasing PS4 versions, which may irritate a few Sony fans who took to heart Sony’s commitment to “next gen” development. The belief is that developing games across generations stifles creativity, and hampers the technological ambitions of the game, since it has to cater to an audience with less powerful machines.

“No one should be disappointed,” Ryan said. “The PS5 versions of those games are built from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5 feature set, and we have an upgrade path for PS4 users to get the PS5 versions for free. It’s about people having choice. I’m really quite pleased about the situation.”

I thought you couldn't build a game from the ground up for a more powerful console to take advantage of the feature set without holding the game back knowing it's going to be on old gen?

The more I think about the way Sony handled the last 24 hours, the more disappointed with them i am. I feel like both Sony and Microsoft have done an abysmal job generating pre-system launch hype, but to barely announce the price, release date, and preorder date a handful of hours before secretly crapping out the preorders at some arbitrary time in the middle of the night is crazy to me. I get that I'm not in their target demographic age wise any more, but to not even give people with normal schedules a chance is insane. I can't think of any major electronic launch that has ever been handled like this. Was this just to try and hide how truly limited the launch quantities are? If they are that limited, just delay the freaking launch. You're not going to somehow stop people from buying the other system if you don't have any available for sale.

Is the PS Plus Collection only for PS5 console users? I would think if I had it and a PS4, I'd be able to play them there too.

I think MS has been out there a bunch trying to get the word out and keeps advertising the pre-order date, but I agree with the rest.

They should have said in showcase, you can pre-order now! or something. Still some notice would've been nice. Like you said, maybe they wanted the chaos.

For me, it worked out. Kinda convinced myself I can wait. I can play Spidey on PS4. I don't like the look of the PS5 and will wait for a different SKU. I still have Horizon and GOW that I never played. I'm a year or 2 behind on PS games, which is totally fine.

Still exhausting to see that we still have to scramble to pre-order.

More like "We will show you Gameplay in 2021". Honestly, I despise announcements that are just a logo. Nintendo does that a lot. I don't think anyone doubted there would be another
Meh.
They said it launches in 21.
The official acknowledgement of the game plus a 21 release announcement is great news for fans of the series who are potential ps5 buyers.

But that's my opinion

I don't care about backwards compatibility unless the games see some kind of enhancements. Sony hasn't said anything about that.

It might make it easier for some to do a trade-in knowing they still have access to their old games.

Agreed. But tell me that you didn't expect to see more than a logo?
