Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S preorders appear set for 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET on September 22 at most North American retailers. Best Buy Canada confirmed plans to open preorders at 8 a.m. PT in a recent blog post, while Target noted the same time on its Xbox Series X listing. Prominent gaming deals Twitter user, Wario64, also claims the same timings at GameStop in the U.S. However, with each retailer controlling its own preorder processes, timings may vary. We expect more on release plans over the days ahead, but it's best to keep your calendars free on Tuesday morning.

For UK buyers, Microsoft has already announced Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S drop at 8 a.m. BST in the UK, with a parallel kick-off between top retail partners. It comes 8 hours earlier than the U.S. launch, meaning those across the pond will also need to wake up early with credit cards ready.

I'm going to try to get one off Amazon and from MS directly. I think I got my X1 vanilla direct from MS and it was the least drama.

I don't like Amazon, but they are ok as a backup and I know they don't charge anything anyway so I can always cancel.

Yeah, I went with the MS store for the X1 and X1X and it got here later in the day than I would have liked, but I've seen Amazon horror stories from Plainview I think, and my preorder for the 360 launch ended up being cancelled by them because they oversold so... I know MS will be sure they have it if I buy from them.

Yikes. That's not very good.

Ironically if PS5 has similar installs to Series X, it means PS5 and Series S will store almost the same amount of games. What this doesn't tell us though is how big the installs will be next gen. From talking to a dev, I believe they'll be smaller. All things equal, they could be 1/3rd smaller. Since all things won't be equal (textures will get bigger but wouldn't need to be repeated), probably won't see that much savings but there should be some.

I'm not expecting much difference in size. If there was a significant difference I think we would have heard by now.

There have been some articles on it. Old ones. Haven't got an update. I'm assuming a lot of that is because we don't have finished games yet. I'm also expecting a lot of early games just to dump their current gen files over as is. Games built strictly for SSDs don't need as man repeating assets and therefore should make more efficient use of storage long term.

You guys better hope it's not going to be like it was with the 3080 preorders cause damn.

Its got to be better than that s*** show. That was literally the worst launch of a tech product I've seen in some time. Bots had swiped half the inventory before preorders were even live.

Jesus Christ.

It's pretty bad. I'm going to try and get my 3090 but I'm not holding my breath. I fully expect to not actually get one till 2021.

I'm expecting a repeat of the 3080 fiasco with the 3090. Might be worse as the rumor mill has the 3090 in shorter supply than the 3080.

I'm nervous for ANYONE remotely thinking of getting a series x or s next week. Its nice that MS announced the day and time pre-orders open but if retailers like Walmart jump the gun early again there's going to be chaos. Plus with an exact time and date announced that gives the bots time to get thier s*** together to swarm the retail sites. I hope this time around that some of the stores have some type of bot protection in place other wise there is going to be alot of frustration associated with this next gen pre-order business.

I'm hoping that since the Xbox Series X is likely to be less popular it will be easier to pre-order, i didn't have any issues with getting a switch from best buy like i did the PS5. But they need to do something to weed out the duplicate scalper buyers. at least MS and Sony can have you pre-order from them based order wise based off gamerscore or library size to weed out the scalpers.

My fav spot bestbuy failed me with my ps5 pre order.

I hope they come through for XSX.

Plan on getting the console,a headset and maybe a external SSD.

We are only 2 months from launch and nobody has a clue how big there game is? Seems unlikely. I 'm not saying they will nott be smaller, I understand the less duplicate files and Imagine compression will play a part, but if they were going to be significantly smaller then people would be talking. MS and Sony both know these puny sizeed SSDs are goinh to be an issue.

Thanks for posting that. I was wondering what I do if I want to preorder but take advantage of the All Access program.

Will the MS site be reliable for a preorder? I assume so but I haven’t done day 1 on a console since the first Xbox at Toys R Us.

I wanted to preorder in store. Guess I’ll have to online preorder. Who is the best to use? Does all online retailers want the whole paid amount up front?

I could be wrong, but I didn't think any actually took payment. But I guess I never paid attention. I just assumed it was charged when it actually shipped.
