Speaking to GameSpot at PAX Australia today, Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hines and ZeniMax Online Studios game director Matt Firor said it'll be a long time before The Elder Scrolls VI comes out--so long that the game might not hit until new console hardware is release.

"The easiest thing is look at how it was announced; it was Starfield and then [Elder Scrolls 6]," Firor said. "You can go back and count the years between Bethesda Game Studios releases, and you'll get the idea that [The Elder Scrolls 6 is] not coming anytime soon."

I asked Firor about The Elder Scrolls VI in regards to how that game's release might affect ZeniMax's MMO The Elder Scrolls Online. Specifically, I was wondering if The Elder Scrolls Online might incorporate the world of The Elder Scrolls VI in some way, following the way in which Morrorwind came to The Elder Scrolls Online by letting players go back to Vvardenfell. Firor said it's too soon to say what will happen as it relates to whatever location The Elder Scrolls VI takes players to.

"I don't even know what the world is going to be like when it comes out; there will be a different console generation by then, I'm sure," he said. "Who knows. But I know we're free and clear for a long time."

If there is a new one coming I hope they revamp the combat system completely.

So the AAA developer known for making dated looking games, may skip this gen Elder scroll for next gen.

Ugliest next gen game confirmed.

Dont know, I’m sure they would prefer to entice millions of PS gamers over to the Xbox ecosystem than a one off purchase.

But with other games they have decided not to waste the dev time spent and supported the other version.

I think they will just constantly remind people about game pass over paying £60+ for the PS version

Maybe. But at this time, according to MS at least, they are Xbox/PC only. I would be surprised if it didn't hit PS. Then again, MS isn't keen on making games for PlayStation, and PlayStation isn't keen about having Xbox Live account access on their PlayStation. I assume launching the new Elder Scrolls on the PS with the big splash screen might not make PS happy either....but who knows!:

It's killed for sure. It's a guaranteed system seller for a price drop or a revision of Xbox Series X.

No, i don't it is. If they are pre-existing contacts / licensing agreements in place (which there probably would be for this game) I can see it coming to PS5. Now that MS own the company it may be more profitable for them to sell the game on all consoles and than to use it to increase xbox sales. If it does go Xbox exclusive it will be a serious move on their part. i really don't think it will though.

The 2 PS time exclusives Deathloop and Ghostwire aren't effected by the deal

I don't think there's any way this is an exclusive.

Are all PS5 games gonna be $70, or just first party stuff? I could see MS/Beth selling it on the PS for $70 and including it on GP. $70 for one game vs. $15 a month for “all that value” on the XB approach

I could be wrong but contracts in this industry tend to be null once a dev/pub is bought out...but it could totally be in the contract. Like if and when Sony were to sell off their film production side to Netflix or Apple the spidey rights then revert to marvel/Disney....all a bunch of stipulation bs.

It’s looking like some third parties are following suit, ea in particularly, but not CDPR

I doubt they will kill the PS version of this

No reason why they would release it on PS5. Why buy a publisher if all your games will help support your rivals hardware numbers?

I've seen people saying this on Resetera and it isn't realistic.

Same reason Sony games eventually go to PC - straight cash, homie.

I still think they'll probably publish at least some of the really big games on PS5. But not day of. Maybe not year of. But I can see them keeping some of them exclusive also. It's really going to be interesting to see how this shakes out once the real heavy hitters start to come out.

Right but Sony doesn't consider PC a rival. Microsoft considers Sony a rival in the console space.

Sony can throw a game on PC and make extra cash later on and it won't have an effect on the PlayStation install base negatively.

Microsoft throwing their biggest IPs on the rival system absolutely WILL have an effect on the Xbox's install base negatively.

Because it was already announced for PS which MS trend to honour as a good will gesture

I don't know. Skyrim was on every console known to man and some select microwaves. I'd be super surprised if this doesn't follow suit. It's a huge seller.

So no chance for 2021?

We may not even get Starfield in 2021, and this game will be like 2 years after that at the earliest I'd wager. My guess is TES 6 is a LONG way out, that trailer was released essentially just to confirm that they'd make it one day, it's still in early pre-production AFAIK...

For every one time $70 on PS5, is a loss for a subscription that potentially would be quadrupled through GP, GPU AND a console sale. Not a chance in hell.

I keep seeing people say MS likes money, no way they don’t release on PS. Well I’m sure Sony likes money too and could sell millions of games like Spider-Man, Uncharted, Horizon and Last of us on Xbox but that’s Never going to happen though. MS got there eye on 100 million GP subs by end of gen. $12 billion a year income. 7.5 billion is a lot of money but someone posted in another thread how some companies have spent upwards of $80 Billion trying to jump on the Netflix streaming bandwagon. This is chump change to MS and they’re playing the long game. I already thought GP was amazing then we get game streaming added to this, then EA access then this Megaton. If each studio takes 3 years to make a game (some less some more) we’re looking at an exclusive releasing every 6 weeks, day one on GP. Everyone except the saltiest of fanboys is going to want in on that. Plus more money in people’s pockets for third party games. MS are in a brilliant position. A 50% increase in GP subs in the last six months alone proves they’re onto a winner. Now they’ve got the most powerful console, a value console and absolutely amazing value GP. Well played MS.

And people arent considering that GP on Xcloud is a crazy amount of devices to hook you into their ecosystem. They've built their own multiplatform base within the ecosystem by way of GP. They dont need Sony to plug in for this one. I agree. This is a long game. No way they give a single solitary leg up to Sony unless its already in the contract. "Case by case" basis is a politically correct statement to keep the fanboys from raging and sending death threats and s***. This is all about gaining market share back, and they will.
