It's odd the ad says the series doesn't have an IR Blaster, yet the tweet from Larry Hyrb said one was built into the bind button.

Something has changed.....

We also asked if the Xbox Series X will feature an IR Blaster, given that some accessories like the Xbox Media Remote use the IR Blaster to send commands to compatible television sets. Unfortunately, Microsoft confirmed that this too, has been removed. Microsoft will opt for HDMI-CEC controls instead for the Xbox Media Remote. HDMI-CEC stands for "Consumer Electronics Control," and allows devices to send signals over a HDMI connection for things like power and volume control. Different TV manufacturers use a variety of different names and brands to describe HDMI-CEC, but most modern sets are capable of using it.

They are talking about the IR Blaster port on the back of the XBO units that you an plug an IR Blaster into to control other devices. What Hyrb was talking about is standard IR receiver for remote signals on the XSX|S. So, you can still use IR based remotes to control the XSX|S but you can't use the Xbox to control other devices that are not HDMI-CEC compliant and that would require an IR Blaster. Clear as mud?

If they removed standard IR control for the devices themselves, that would piss anybody off that uses an existing universal remote/harmony type system to control their devices.

Well, I had no idea that we had IR Blasters on our Xbox consoles. I assumed an IR blaster was the same thing as the little IR eye on the front of the console to let me use my Harmony One remote. Well, I am glad I can still use my Harmony remote then. I wish Sony would add IR to their consoles :(
