Help Picking a New TV

Looking at a 65" TCL Series 6, but can't decide if I want to get the 2020 or 2019 version. I realize the 2020 has that THX certified game mode or whatever, but the 2019 version for $700 instead of the 2020 at $900 is really enticing. RTings reviews doesn't show too much of a difference, besides a .4 point swing for video games in the 2020 favor. That's not really enough for me to care personally.

Tips?

Looking for a 65" 4K preferably with a max of $1000, and honestly I'm looking for as cheap as I can get, which is why I'm interested in that 2019 TCL 6 Series. Black Friday sales are a massive bonus. I've been telling myself I'm just gonna bite the bullet at Black Friday, and here we are.

Gotta get ready for whenever I can get my hands on a Series X.

I don't need the biggest or baddest TV on the market. I'm coming from a 50" 1080p tv that's 8 years old at this point, just wanna do 4K gaming at a decent price. I'm not a videophile anymore, those days are long gone.

Gotcha.... I got a 65 900h after taxes out the door at 998 and some change (woulda been 990 had I bought it in my city), really good tv, fantastic colors and hella bright.

It may be on sale at Best Buy atm, but I could be wrong. They do have smaller sizes, may save a hundred bucks or so.

But because of the small viewing angle It went to the bedroom instead of the living room, where the Sammy will continue to reign.

Oh and the sound is really good out of the box.

If this is what you're talking about....yeah no thanks. Not really trying to splurge too much, my living room is kinda small in my apt, viewing angles really don't matter all that much, and I'm working with a soundbar so that's not really all that important to me either.

It was down to $900 and change.
I recommend waiting for the upcoming sales on it.

It will drop again

Decided to go with the TCL 5 series 50”. Has solid reviews for gaming on rtings. It’s going to be a really tight squeeze for sure. Bummed about the lack of VRR and 120hz, but this is a temp situation and plan on moving out to a bigger place next year.

Just couldn’t convince myself to spend $1,500 on the 48” CX when the 55 was selling for $200 less lol and for my bedroom haha.

Have to say that I am really enjoying the new 5 series. Hvae been using a LG 40 inch 1080p LCD I got back in 2012.

The vibrancy of the color is night and day.

Allllright. I've decided to go ahead and get the X900 when it drops again. I'm seeing conflicting information online about the HDMI inputs...

Some say out of the box 2.1 works, others say there's a necessary firmware update. How does a firmware update work in this scenario to up the frame rate to possible 120hz for gaming? Will it work? Help!

The update allows the compatible hdmi port(s) to run at full capacity, I may be wrong, VaLLiancE may be able to go into greater detail. I’ll find out later when I get home to setup the ps5 with the 900h

Kinda wild to me that a firmware update pushes 2.1 to 120hz for next gen gaming, but the next model up (X950H) doesn't have the same capability. I'm still gonna get it I think, just for future proofing, but it's an interesting perspective.

Subscribed to that deal originally linked by VaLLiancE on Slick Deals, so hopefully it pops up within the next few months. Plus that'll give me some time to save some extra cash. I guess it's smart to future proof, especially now that I'm seeing more and more games pushing 120FPS out of the gate on the Series X.

I have my XSX hooked up via HDMI 2.1 and it's amazing.

I have the last update which enables 4K@120Hz in ports 3 and 4.

I heard another new update is coming.

Good to hear man! It'll be night and day for me either way because I'm jumping from 7+ year old tech at this point. Can you do me a favor and if you see it pop up on sale again let a brother know?

Yeah he's stuck on the topic ever since he was wrong about Sony releasing the 4K@120Hz update before next gen launched.

What he doesn't share is that not all users have this issue.
