It looks like you can't run Watch Dogs Legion at 1080p Ultra (or very high) with a 1070.

It's fine at very high until you are driving on a busy street where it could dip down into the low 40s.

It's also the same for the 2700x. Looks like Zen+ doesn't do to well with this game but it runs better on Zen 2.

I was worried that 2600 hundred would become obsolete before the 2700 but based on the Watch Dogs Legion benchmark it looks like they will die together. Like someone said on Reddit, Zen+ will likely be obsolete long before the difference in 2600 and 2700 will matter in games. At the time the 2700 was double the price of the 2600 and they both had almost identical game performance.

1070 is dated... just said this recently...

It's bitter sweet to see you in here rubbing it in like this. 😆

So far it looks like I can still manage 1080p HIGH settings on the newest Ubisoft game this year which is good enough for now. I think I'll be fine skipping a lot of these games (if it comes to that) until the Witcher 3 remaster or Starfield comes out.

Update: Spoke too soon, looks like I'll have to settle for 1080p medium in Valhalla until I can upgrade.

My rig is showing its age (5 1/2 years old). AC Valhalla runs like hmmm ......consoles (sub 60fps).

I probably need to shollow my pride & lower the setting even further like low texture setting...(Sob) until I get a new rig (too much s*** to change to worth upgrade, even the case is old school PSU on top).

I wanted to wait for comparsion between the new GTX & new AMD cards before making my final rig spec decision.
I am still confused by the Ryzen series, & CPU in general.

I remembered in my younger days (When Spice girls was the s***, & everyone in school has a favorite spice girl), picking CPU was just about picking the highest clock speed CPU you (by that I meant your parents) can afford.

My rig is still holding on strong. (Ryzen 3800x, rtx 2080ti, 32 GB of 3000Mhz ram, 4TB SATA SSD). Still midly annoyed that I can't find a 3080 for MSRP. The only thing I might do sooner than later is upgrade to a Gen 4 NVME SSD but seeing as how games haven't yet taken advantage of Gen 4 speeds just yet, I feel I've got another year or so.

I dont see any reason to upgrade to a Gen 4 NVMe SSD any time soon for gaming honestly, not even when games start taking advantage of it.

I would hope its still holding on, that's a nice rig. I'm still using my 1070 but all I've been playing is Destiny 2 and Path of Exile.

Thanks, it a generation behind now in terms of CPU, GPU and SSD so I've got the itch to upgrade. However Covid and other obligations saw fit to end that dream.

If you do end up doing that I'd be interested in your 2080 Ti if you wanted to let it go for a reasonable price.

Lol, a generation behind? What does that really mean in terms of real world performance? 2080ti vs 3080, 3800x vs 5800x

You turn down a few less settings to get to 4k, right?

IF I can ever get hold of a 3080 at retail, you'll be the first one on my list. By that time I reckon both of us will have 3080s though.

Yeah I could turn down the settings but IMO the whole point of PC gaming is to not have to compromise. At least that's how I feel 80% of the time. As I'm getting older its getting harder and harder to see resolution differences and frame rate difference, thus fomo isn't hitting me as hard as it did in my youth.

I forgot about the difference in ray tracing performance. I get it, I was just thinking that Ultra is like the future proofing setting and a setting below that at 4k wouldn't be terrible, but with Cyberpunk 2077 on it's way that 2080ti is going to get hammered with Ray tracing on.

Na, not looking for that much horsepower or to spend that much money.

Yeah I think at 4K or at 3440x1440 ultrawide, ray tracing might be out unless I run it using DLSS and even then we will have to see. Since I can't get a 3080, I'd be content if the 2080ti ran it at decent framerates with HDR on.

Touche. Again I'll keep you in mind when/if I can get hold of a 3080.

TLDR, Radeon 6000 series has bad RT performance, raster performance on par with competing Nvidia GPU's.

They have a lot more vram. 16GB vs 8 and 10.

That was already a known fact. Thing is if you run out of the horsepower first then the extra VRAM becomes mostly pointless. I think these cards will run their their life before you will ever require 16GB of VRAM in 99% of cases. AMD/ATi has been known to do this for most of their history with their cards.

Its a start. They are at least being competative in the higher skus. I still wouldn't get this over the competing 3000 series but they've got something to build on.

Okay, I am going with RX 6800XT for GPU. What CPU/motherboard goes will with this?

Agreed. There are a lot of things that matter to me on the Nvidia side that is lacking or non existant on the AMD side.

Video encoding hardware
DLSS
Software and features like Nvidia Broadcast, shadowplay, etc.

AMD has worse video encoding quality
no DLSS equivalent
no Nvidia Broadcast equivalent.
their shadowplay (ReLIVE) equivalent is not as good

Just a couple reasons why I wouldn't buy one. I'm just glad they are knocking on the door competition wise to keep Nvidia a little more honest.

Also, I got my cpu and gpu by joining this for $20.

You get auto discord notifications on a bunch of retailers when they get their new stock in. You can also join the discord channel free to get only newegg notifications. I've had the best luck on newegg mobile app and Amazon. Good luck!

Looks promising.

Ok guys, Val if your in these threads.

With scalpers ruining the start of this generation for a lot of us. I'm seriously considering getting a PC that can match or exceed these new consoles instead.

I'm looking to spend $1000 or maybe just a bit more. What are some good options?

I want 1440p (at least) 60fps on most games. I want Raytracing. But I know that will probably half the frame rate. Which is fine.
I'd like to do VR too.

Unfortunately, the scalpers and pandemic have hit the PC market pretty hard too. New processors, graphic cards and power supplies are expensive and/or hard to find.

I'm going to refer you to eVo7 The Living Tribunal GeorgeSoros VaLLiancE . I personally don't think its possible to build a PC in this climate that exceeds the Series X or PS5 and does ray tracing, 60fps and VR for 1K but maybe the other can chime in with their thoughts.
