Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

I decide to reinstall doom 2016 & see if I feel like finishing the game., I was about 80% done when I got bored/Fertiged,

Edit; beat the game finally after 4 years. I was already 85% done when I restarted this afternoon.
That is where I am at with Recore. I started day one. Didn't get far and gave up on it for years. Tried again, but gave up. Third time, I am finally at 90%, but I am stuck at an area that keeps glitching, so now I can't bring myself to finish it.

I tried so hard.

You are not missing out much. The last 2 areas are not that much different from precious.

I decided to return to AC Valhalla. I am still enjoying it, so I am pushing on & who knows. The game can be glorious at time.

But I will focus on the main missions & only do side missions that are convenient.

Finished up Uncharted 4 a while back but didn't update. Probably my favorite in the series. There were a few missions towards the end that I thought took the game from a good mix of platforming/adventure and combat to way too much combat, but it was only a couple missions so I won't hold it too much against the entire game.

Been playing Warframe a lot. Checked that game out when the PS4 first launched and only played the initial quest. I also remember trying it on PC a few years ago and same thing. Tried it again after I got done with Uncharted 4 and it's been like Destiny crack for me.

For my next story game I think I'll check out Ni No Kuni 2. I remember enjoying the first although I never finished it.

I gave up on assassin creed Valhalla due to frequent crashes. Maybe after they fix Crashville in next update.

I wanted to like Immortal, but I can't get past the awful cheap low budget cartoon characters look.

So I do a youtube search & Prey was recommended as one of the better SIngle player FPS.

I decided & got Prey in 2017 instead. I heard it's a better cyberpunk. In any case at 8,99€ (70% discount) its a no-brainer. Impression coming....

Lol it's not a better cyberpunk you can't really compare the two, pretty solid game though worth it at that price.

Does anyone know if the old uncharted games still hold up? Was pretty keen to pick up uncharted 4 on the cheap but suppose I should play the first ones, I remember playing the first one and a half when they first came out and enjoying them a bit but was so long ago can't remember much of it.

I am not the one making the argument. However I played the game, & this is one of the few games that I manage to played 5 hours straight in one sitting since 1/2 decades ago.

It nails the moving carrot well. Something games like AC failed. There is always something to push you forward, the story, the next location, I want to check out this area, that area.

I believe you can get The Nathan Drake Collection that includes the first 3 games. I think they did some upgrades to the graphics, controls, and some of the game mechanics in the collection, pretty sure the first game is a remastered version too. It's one of those $20 "hits collection" type games now. Fantastic price for 3 classic games.

Imo, uncharted 2 still the best in the series and still holds up fairly well. The first one, shows it's age... I'd prob just watch a recap of that one on YouTube instead.

Another one down, just finished What Remains of Edith Finch.

Now I'm going to finally play Jedi Fallen Order. Another win for Game Pass.

About 17 hours into Ni No Kuni 2 thanks to extended weekend. Really enjoying the game and looks quite amazing in 4K with HDR. Makes me think what Nintendo exclusives could look like with those features...

I did play the original trilogy on PS3 so it has been a while and don't remember much outside of enjoying them at the time. I just finished 4 and it seemed like more of the same (not a bad thing!) outside of a few changes, so I would think the originals would be fine.

If Nintendo could get out of their own way and make a 4k HDR machine with modern online capacities, they would sell like hotcakes. Mario, Zelda, Metroid in 4K w/hdr, I don't think MS or Sony could touch them. But what do I know. I thought the Switch would be a novelty, and its gone on to become one of the top 10 selling console of all time.

Call of the Sea: Decent game

Decent little game on Game Pass. I wouldn't pay money for it, but it was a nice little story with puzzle elements. It's a pain to walk around because the character moves so slowly though.

I have seen the video review of Call of the Sea, The game does look great & a throwback to a classic like Myst. By the way, Myst was created by 2 people, brothers. One did the code, the other the art! I watched a documentary on it.

Anyway, I am still on Prey 2017, 33 hours clock Lovein' it. For fans of immersive sim or wanted a more modern Bioshock with more exploration. Be sure to check this game up, Its on sale at Steam for an almost happy meal value of 8,99€ (check your local currency)

Once I am done with the game (65% done now), I will be returned to normal work in the new year 2021 to push for the finishing & hopefully release of my Adventure game. I am now polishing the sequence of events/story & puzzles & they are harder than I thought. All Levels (environments) are done (exclude gameplay/puzzle elements)

I have the overall plot/story nailed early, but to put all the small plot pieces together (the story is relieved piece by piece via gameplay & exploration & a lot of reading/watching), is pretty hard. Also, I need to integrate follow & integrating puzzles into them.

Interesting about Myst - I'll probably pick up the VR version eventually.

I've heard good things about Prey, but I've tried to play it and was just bored of that main hub near the beginning of the game. Pretty much got lost and bored reading/listening to the narrative. Apparently I need to just stick with it.

Îts started slow, but ram up as you push further. It is however not a game for everyone & not to be played like a normal shooter or you died very quickly, at öeast until you buff all the weapons & crank a lot of skills from the skill tree.

I finished Prey, clocked at 40hours on steam. Masterpiece. I give it a 9.5/10. 0.5 points knock for the visuals that can be better.

I previously mentioned the lack of fast travel, after thinking back, there is a reason not to, as traversal & planning the best path to a location ( & alternative ways if one was blocked) is part of the gameplay, & if you want to move fast, like really fast, you can spec into moving skills & you fly past area fast.

The fabricator (used to craft ammo, gears, items, & consumables) & recycler (used to recycle parts for crafting materials) can be found in many areas so you do not need to backtrack to use them.

One of the amazing things about the game is NO enemies or areas are being the force that you need to fight through them to process. Even so-called bosses of min bosses, you can choose to hide from or run past. AT the beginning-mid of the game, I will kill all mobs in an area I need to explore so I do not need to keep hiding & running. But in the end, when I just want to sprint from one point to another (especially some timed mission), I just ran pass them. Sure I took damage, but it's more resource-wise for me to heal/repair at end of the run, then waste ammo/time engaging mobs (which will respawn later no less). There are far more items that can recover health than ammo you can pick up, ALternatively, you can turn into a cup & roll your way out without being hit at resource cost that can also easily be recoverable.

You play however you want. That is what makes the game amazing.

I just bought Wolfenstein II on steam at a happy meal price of 5,99€ Interestingly there is a German edition, which I presume removes Nazi references. I am installing the non-german version though.

Great game!

I also played through Youngblood a little while back, which was really fun too, especially playing co-op. The co-op A.I. When playing single player sucks though, especially when your trying to stealth it.

Playing Wolfenstein II now. I posted also some screens at the PC session.

After playing prey, cyberpunk, Renment, even doom 2016, the game feels very arcadey & very corridory. Like those on rail light gun shooters in the arcade.

I am very early, 5 hours into the game. As far as the story, there are some dark & pretty well-done ones like the sadistic General Engel (Ironically means Angel) & her daughter early in the game.

Then there is maybe it's a normal & American thing, but I find it cringy, & had to roll my eyes every time a character uses color emphasis like "white boy", "white ass".
In most countries, referencing ethnical like that would be regarded as discriminatory. But I digest, Maybe it common in the 60s (game setting) or just regular American thing.

IGN giving this a 9/10 shows how urgently they need to replace their reviewers.
Like you said, decent indie game but in no way is it even arguable to give this game more than a 7/10 at most, and that's taking into account the fact that the taste is like the butt.

I am happy I read this after I had my dinner.

Professional game reviewers are trash nowadays. The only exception are the guys at Digital Foundry, and perhaps some others.

Like with Cyberpunk, some journalist played it on a laptop, then complained about performance. Another journalist discussed gender roles in the game.

You guys are much more reliable reviewers than those fools.
