Same with the X. But they came in looking for a PS4 not a PS5. Now they have a Series S and no PS.

Yup. The stores were hard selling the XSS as the PS5 and PS4's were sold out. With only the XSS in stock, makes sense if the casuals didn't want to go home empty handed.

Sounds like the games and game pass sold them on the series s. Pretty cool.

Sounds like it's a combination of both factors: the PS4/PS5 being out of stock and the employees selling the XSS with Gamepass/Bethesda news. Their first choice was a Playstation but when they found out they were out of stock, the employees offered the XSS because it was in stock and then shared the Gamepass/Bethesda news to attract them to buy the XSS instead.

Amazed they wanted a PS4 instead of a PS5.

Probably because the Ps5 is so hard to find there so they wanted to get a PS4 instead. Who knew that even that was sold out lol. Shows the demand is pretty strong.

The PS5 sold out in seconds, also didn't help that it appears only 1/3 of expected units were allocated over there.

While the PS5/XSX are next to impossible to find, it's pretty cool that more gamers have been getting into the Xbox ecosystem with the Xbox Series S and Game Pass. I think MS was smart this gen releasing to double the countries that they ever have and spread them out. With record Xbox sales for them, it seems we are in for a great generation.

They released in more countries but yet still fell 100k short of Xbox One sales from 2013 launch. MS stock issues are preventing them from capitalizing on launching in more countries. Same with Sony, if they had more stock, they'd be selling much faster than what they are doing now although they've already solidified the PS5 as the most successful home console already. They both did what they could in a pandemic era so kudos to them.

"Last week, Sony's financials reported PS5 has sold 4.5 million units -- confirming it as the most successful PlayStation, and by extension the most successful home console, of all time."

"Despite having the cheapest next-gen console in the Xbox Series S, and launching in more than three times as many markets as the Xbox One in Novembr 2013, the company still fell 100,000 units short of its previous performance."

"Data from Ampere Analysis"

MS stated they exceeded previous launches.

Yeah, Ampere is a market-leading data, research and analytics firm, specialising in media, content, communications and games as per their website. Not sure why the discrepancy between the two. MS doesn't state sales numbers so we only have firms such as Ampere that can give us estimates.

I will go by MS official sales data that MS has internally.

PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the UK for a second month in a row.

Sony's new console enjoyed its second biggest month so far, and it's already overtaken PlayStation Vita, Wii U and Dreamcast in terms of sales in the UK.

There was new stock of Xbox Series X and S as well, which saw a boost in sales for Microsoft's new machines. It means that for the first time in years, Nintendo Switch was in third-place for the month.

217,268 games consoles (panel retail data, not upweighted) were sold in the UK over the four weeks to April 3rd, 2021, which is an impressive figure but still down 7.6% over the same period in 2020.

In terms of boxed software, just over one million games were sold during March 2021, which is down 20% over the same period in 2020. Nintendo Switch dominated the charts for March, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons the best-selling game of the month 12 months after it launched, followed by Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury at No.3, Monster Hunter Rise at No.3, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe at No.5.

The one non-Switch game in the Top Five is PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man: Miles Morales at No.4.

PS5 outselling Xbox Series in MS's second largest market? Yes it means something. This is with MS also having new stock in the UK too.

These aren't sentiment lists. These are actual sales units.
