Pretty much IGN sums up what I seen so far. Shallow gameplay. I have follow the game for a while, & everything I have seen suggests repetitive smashing.
I played a bit of Metroidvania game Vigil to see what the fuss is all about this Metriodvania thingy, that people rather play 2-2,5D ish game that looks at home at a time when boys still hung M2M posters (I did), than AAA games.
After playing & beating Vigil, I can understand. It is the charm of exploration, finding & reaching secret areas, unlocking skills & ability that make you progress in power & traversing. Things many AAA seems to have lost.
Godfall surely Sally decent with its visuals, animation & combat, but pretty much failed in every other category. There is a saying about screenplay that because almost any idea/genre is done, to make a good screenplay, you need to be able to have at least 2 ideas/genre. I think the same can be said about game.
Games like God of war combine Good storytelling with good combat & exploration & RPG lite. Uncharted series, rely on combat lite, plus exploration & action sequences like car chase, & decent story.
If you look at Godfall, it has decent combat, sure, & loot & RPG lite, which is a bit short of other good game & make it a forgettable get it on sales game.
Its not bad, but imagine if they push either the loot rpg part, or add some minimal exploration to break the repeitiveness.
