The game maybe technically ahead of others (according to them), & loved by critics & game journalists (which manes little these days, much like critics review of movies), its also VERY DIVISIVE among gamers who either love or hate it, unlike say Ghost of Tsushima, which is univerally loved. It’s reading for ants...

Stock has a lot to do with it. To make money is not enough, you need to grow in profit to please shareholders. The problem is how profit is looked at now. Obviously, everyone wants to make money. The problem today is that the push for profit growth is insane. You'll see headlines about how "Company X missed their profit growth number". It sounds bad, but they actually still made tons of money, just not quite as much as was expected. It becomes a beast that can never be fed fully. I've seen companies treated as a failure because they "only" had 25% profit growth instead of the predicted 30%. They made 25% MORE than last year, but that's not enough. That's the mentality.
The other big trend and this is where things go off the rails - companies focus on the short term. Nobody wants to be the next iconic corporation that lasts 100+ years, they want to make a trillion dollars this quarter and who cares what happens next?
When a company focused on long term profits, they care about things like employees. They want and need employees to be productive long term. That means paying employees, giving them benefits so they want to work long term. Once they only care about the next quarter, all that goes out the window. Employees are just resources to be used up and spit out. Crack the whip, and if you aren't getting what you want, crack it harder!
If you're worked long enough in any industry you've probably worked for someone like this, but definitely in IT. The beatings will continue until morale improves!
Everyone gets into this short term mode, but it suddenly becomes permanent.

My first fulltime job was in a hospital in 1993 and our facility paid about $3.00 an hour lower for entry level jobs and $7.00 an hour lower for nursing than the area average. Our CEO was making twice what the CEO's of much bigger hospitals in our area made and our CFO and COO were making about the same as the CEO's of those other hospitals. What made it worse was we had a wage freeze on for two years and our CEO gave himself a $1 million bonus, if it hadn't been for the local paper we wouldn't have known. They tried to say "oh well the board approved it because he was doing such a good job" lol no other hospital in our area paid that low or had a wage freeze yet he was doing a good job?Top executives being greedy & took lionshare all the money while treating low level workers as expanables are not new. Its unfornate same in mine. 2 tier system, the untouchable & the expendable.
They cut our pay (said corona) but when ask why ain't their pay being cut, our ex coe said their pay was decide by shareholders, also cutting top executives will made them go to other companies. the same CEO that tell us to be royal to the company.
This is the type of shi+, plus political corruption/self interest that lead so many (especially young) people to support communism/socialism. which is worse (we knew, 1/2 of germany & half of Europe were communist, if its that good, people will have protest to return) , but current politcal climate & corp greed are not helping for sure.
Those first few lines remind me of high school, make it stop....I still have recurring dreams of failing or not studying for an examMy first fulltime job was in a hospital in 1993 and our facility paid about $3.00 an hour lower for entry level jobs and $7.00 an hour lower for nursing than the area average. That's about the time I started to realize that with a lot of companies employees are looked at as a necessary evil and not part of the team. The people who actually do the work keeping the places running and taking care of all of the things that need to be taken care of are interchangeable drones to board members and executives. It may be different in small companies where there is an actual owner who gets to know each employee or at least see's their faces every day but when you can basically hide from the people who work for you and you rarely if ever see them they really don't mean much and it's sad.
I have often exam anxiety dream when I am stress as well. Those first few lines remind me of high school, make it stop....I still have recurring dreams of failing or not studying for an exam
