I'd like MSFT to remain aggressive and pounce on any perceived weakness or reversal from the competition. They have the resources and its not like I'm saying they needed to make it a huge deal. I just think it would have been a great opportunity to ask the Marketing dept. to come up with a clever statement to highlight Sony's reversal.

MSFT is getting killed out in the console business. Sure, they are making money hand over fist but the perception and reality is that Sony is again running away with this new generation. So I want MSFT to seem to still have some fight in them and not let opportunities go by. As I said before, the little things add up.
MSFT in no position to do that.

Fight where it matters. These petty PR wars you all seem to want isn't why the mindshare is how it is. Take the XSX/S and PS5, MS has released and shown pretty much nothing. A terrible looking Halo. Sony, released a georgeos remake of one PS3's best games in Demon Souls., Milee Morales, and showed 2 more beautiful looking games in Ratchet and Clank and Horizon 2, both of which launch this year.

Well, they said they have had a record launch and record Xbox sales and they are sold out still 8 months later. I think their console business is doing just fine.

I think that's exactly why MSFT should strike at Sony's reversal. This is a major reason for marketing, to change the perception/narrative or sow doubt. And its not like I was calling for a huge campaign or anything major. Just a simple acknowledgment of Sony charting a course that is the same as MSFT's now we know Sony was full of it so I say call them out for it.

Sony's killing it where it matters......GAMES. Until MSFT's pipeline of games comes fully online they should hit the competition whenever they can. Its a good way to remain somewhat relevant until MSFT can fully show some games of their own. And I don't see anything petty about highlighting a major reversal for position that MSFT was mocked for before the start of this generation.

There are probably 100 things that would be better to attack Sony on than they make you buy a game again if you want it on PC. Attack on the generations stuff is also pretty weak because that is just flip flopping PR talk that only console fanboys squabble over.
I think they should "attack tactically" on the non-return digital policy (with extremely rare exception aka cyberpunk) which is anti-consumer. Other platform include MS allow return of digital games (conditions apply)

Nobody cares. That is why it is petty. Lashing out at comppetition when you have glaring flaws and issues isn't go to work out well.

Exactly.

What does Xbox have coming until Halo Infinite later this year?

Flight simulator this summer?

8 months into the gen, Xbox hasn't really shown anything much for next-gen in terms of their own console exclusives.

Actually........a lot of gamers cared and the industry as a whole took notice which is why it was a major story where almost all the major gaming publications covered it extensively.

A bunch of games but they have been posted numerous times. Gets old posting them over and over.

Did it scew anything Xbox's way? Nope. It was such a big deal and yet here we are, same as always.

The gaming publications would cover a wet fart exstensively if it got them views.

Off the top of my head, I only know of the Medium that was heralded as some sort of next gen title for the Xbox and that came out in January.

There's also second extinction a 4 player co-op game but just felt pretty unpolished and not much variety, fun for a bit though.

What? the generations thing? the press covered it poorly. If I am wrong about what you are talking about I apologize in advance but if you are talking about Ryan saying Sony believes in generations. in that same interview he said they were going to continue to support the PS4 for years to come. They have exclusive PS5 games and cross gen games from first party so that's really them just doing what he said they would do.

The media wanted to create a contrast by taking his quote from that interview and comparing it with Spencer saying that all xbox games would run on the entire family of consoles, of course that's not going to be the case forever either so it could be considered a bit misleading. At some point they will stop supporting the Xbox one family of consoles they are just doing cross gen up front because they know most of their customers will still be on older hardware for the first couple of years and especially with them pushing a subscription service they want to keep people signed up no matter what they are playing on.

The ascent looks like it could be pretty decent.
That looks great and I can't wait to play it but it's not first party and I believe it's probably only a timed exclusive. Sadly it's also late, it was supposed to be a launch game.

Third party and coming to PS5. That is pretty much the whole story. Games like Stalker, the Ascent, Second Extinction are third party timed exclusives.

All we have really seen is outdated footage of Halo, vague Everwild footage, and Psychnaughts 2. We know Flight Simulator is coming but have not seen anything from a console version.. 8 months in and their best "next gen" game wss released in 2019.

To be honest, MS need a big WOW first party game coming this year that shows the XSX/S potential. Best bet for that is Forza Horizon 5.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. But don't mind me, I just thought MSFT should have taken a shot at Sony for their change in position like with Uncle Phil's most recent shot across the Sony bow concerning PC ports.

Unfortunately, I got a little defensive when Menace responded to my post with his opinion. It makes perfect sense for Sony to continue to support the PS4 with its over 100million install base.

To be honest I do get a little too excited while trying to defend MSFT. They are the underdog and I really want them to do well. But there's no ignoring the obvious that MSFT even with all the acquisitions its made recently has a long way to go to be on par with Sony when it comes to system sellers and highly rated exclusive content for its newest flagship console.

I think Infinite gonna be impressive. It’s the biggest game for the entire year for consoles.

Yup. Looks like MS's strat was to just get some third party timed exclusives to mull over early adopters and betting on some others to play older games with BC until Halo launches which is looking like Fall-Holiday 2021, almost a full year after launch.

Well they hoped to have Halo at launch but due to Covid it was delayed. But it sounds like their other highly anticipated AAA games like Flight Simulator and Forza Horizon 5 were still lined up for release during this launch.

Now they plan to have an AAA exclusive quarterly.

Every studio is dealing with covid related delays, that's not a valid excuse really.

Flight simulator looks like it's releasing sometime this summer soon and Forza Horizon 5 is maybe a Fall-Holiday 2021 title.

They haven't had any AAA console exclusives since launch and that was 2.5 quarters ago.

It's looking more and more like Sony pushed their timeline forward a bit, maybe originally MS was planning for a 2021 holiday release along with Halo/Forza Horizon 5 and Flight Sim as launch titles would've looked much better.

It actually is. My corporation (Hilton) are still crushed by it. It’s real and has been a multi billion dollar impact on us. Nearly 50% of our workforce gone. We anticipate a minimum of 2 years to get back on track. All businesses have been impacted differently.

On the bright side, now you get to pay more per game.

JinCa is really defending what Jim Ryan said about generations? Lol
It’s ok. All companies are full of s*** at times.

Travel industries definitely got hit the worse from COVID. Hotels, cruises, airlines etc.

Hope you guys recover.

But back on topic, there are thousands of game studios that are hit by COVID around the world, 343 Industries started development around what, 2015 or earlier?

On top of that, they are heavily supported by MS and have like 750+ employees, double, triple, even up to 7x more employees than other game studios (didn't the Medium have only 100 employees or something?). You really giving them a pass?

You ae totally entitled to your views and opinions no need to be apologetic about them. I do find it hard to ever look at MS as an underdog though when they have so much money. PlayStation makes a lot more money for Sony than Xbox does for MS but if it were to come to a bidding war for any publisher or IP etc Sony would have zero chance IF MS gave Phil a blank check. Thankfully that's not how business usually works :)

The PS4 didn't have an amazing launch line up either but they did have some games, it really doesn't reflect well on management at XBGS that they only had one first party game lined up for the entire first year and it ended up having to be delayed. The whole industry was hit with covid, 343 wasn't any worse off than anyone else so I just don't get it and if xbox is your primary place to play I can totally see being a bit upset and frustrated.

MS has purchased a lot of mid level studios started a new AAA one and picked up a AAA one that was already only working on games for them anyway. We'll see if they are able to make them into something more than they were before Phil came and scooped them up. I'm not all that confident in a few of them because they were already struggling and it's not like Spencer and his crew have a great track record of managing the studios they already had but we'll see.

I do want MS to be a player in the console space though, I want competition I just don't want anyone buying up the industry because they make money in other areas and just want to monopolize gaming as well. That's not just MS either I don't want Apple, Google or Amazon coming in and buying everyone up just because they can.

I'd say this is a scenario where large teams is a hinderence.
