The Home Theater Thread

Put those towers of power diagonal!
They are pointed towards the middle of the listening area, it's just just very slight so it's hard to see. I also have tower surrounds that aren't pictured.

Ok, recommendations, please.

I have about a $1500 budget, and I currently have a 7 year old denon receiver with 4 mid-level 7 year old speakers, and a good subwoofer.

I game with headphones, but use the system for everything else.

I was looking at the Nakamichi 9.2.4 soundbar system, which has great reviews, but then I read that a receiver is superior….?

Thoughts? And if I get a receiver, I’m assuming I’d need me speakers as well to take full advantage of it..? What about the sub?

Thanks for any input!
Yeah I would definitely go with a new receiver, Denon 3700 i hear is great, can use earc for atmos on games, and they have 1 hdmi 2.1 input so you can hook one of the new gen systems up directly. Then when you get more money to upgrade you can start upgrading your speakers.

Thanks for the info. But as it stands right now, do I need new speakers to get the full Atmos effect?

You said you have 4 speakers right now? You would definitely need more speakers. I’m assuming you have just left, right and 2 surrounds? If so you would definitely want a center channel thats the most important speaker imo since thats where most dialogue in movies and games come from. Then 2 to 4 ceiling speakers for atmos or just start with 2 of the modules that sit on top of your speakers like Evo has.

Any way we can just change this thread title to "The Home Theater Thread" ?

I need a recommendation on a new 4K Blu Ray player, The Xbox One X and One S both have the same issues playing some of these brand new 4K discs, artifacting, sound distortion. These have been doing this since I've had them and that was since launch of them both. I just think the blu ray app isn't robust at all and has compatibility issues. Lots of reports of this on other home theater forums also.

Yeah Oppo unfortunately doesn’t make players anymore so i would definitely go with a Panny.

How’s that sub? I keep seeing it on sale and ever so tempted

It's excellent, I've had it for over 8 years never a problem, rocks my entire 2500 sq foot home at 1/4 gain setting. I think the model number is R-10SW

This post must have jynx'd me, the sub just took a s*** last night. *sigh* won't output and sound whatever so ever, replaced the sub cable, same difference. Hooked it up to another receiver and it output bass for 2 seconds from a speaker test, stopped, made a bass pop noise and stopped working again. Really kind pissed about it.

Just ordered the 12" version of the same Klipsch sub to replace it.

Ugh idk with is going on, now it's working just fine. Somehow some setting got changed on my receiver that was redirecting bass to my main front speakers and not to the subwoofer. I never changed those settings idk. Everything is good now. I'm just stressed out lol.

Welp it died today fully, I think the last time was it's last hurrah and it telling me this was the last ride. It wouldn't even pass the buzz test. Ordered a new one coming Monday.

My Pioneer VSX-lx503 died yesterday. Went out with a loud pop. Sounded like a rock hitting a window. Unit shuts down as soon as it powers on now...
Ordered a Pioneer SC-LX704 to replace it. Much more than I wanted to spend , so hopefully its worth it..

New sub arrived. It's installed and ready for MNF tonight.

Out of curiosity I plugged in the old sub and did the buzz test and it works now. 100% there is a loose wire inside the unit on amp something, instead of throwing it out I think when I have some spare time I am gonna pull it apart and see if I can fix it.

Good thing it didn't start a fire.

Lasted about 3 years. It was a Best buy open box. When I first got it, the Hdmi board lasted about a week. Had to have it repaired.

New avr is installed. Been thinking I had a problem with the monoprice 2 channel Amp that runs the rear surrounds. It would shut down under load. I had started the RMA process but found a single strand of wire in a wall plate behind the wall touching the terminal next to it. Problem fixed.
The SC-Lx704 is fantastic BTW. Noticible difference from the 503.

Gonna double bag sub it….dual wielding?

Do you or anyone else here do the “floor crawl” to find the best spot for the sub?

If I fix it I definitely could. More likely it would go up in the upstairs living room though

No i unfortunately cant put subs wherever, so i put one in the back of the home theater and the other in the front on the opposite side of the room. I time aligned and EQd them using REW and a UMIK. Then i ran Dirac on the RZ50, sounds incredible.
