The Cell Phone Thread

Finally got my LG V20 in the mail (2 1/2 weeks from NYC to Toronto is ridiculous but oh well)

It has a pretty good ding on the upper left corner but is otherwise in perfect condition. Still had the plastic on the screen.

The phone is f***ing so much better than I was expecting. I'm over the moon with it and it just feels great to get a massive upgrade on a phone for only $214 ($300 canadian) and get to keep my $38/month contract.

Hopefully it lasts me 2 years minimum. It's really a killer phone. Second screen is awesome, removable battery, 5.7" screen (it's a big phone, which I like) IR blaster, HiFi DAC for the headphone/aux jack (which is very noticeable sound improvement)

I already put a case on it and it completely covers the ding on the corner, which isn't even very noticeable but still. Wow I'm going to be getting my phones from eBay for now on. I think the seller is EMB-phones if anyone is curious about checking them out.

"Hey Zer0, that V20 has been AWESOME! A new battery for $12 once a year has kept it fresh like new for a good 3 1/2 years, and it's still running strong. Excited about that LG Velvet 5G that you have coming from eBay in 9.9/10 condition either tomorrow or Friday?"

Sorry to talk to myself from years ago, but I decided to "upgrade" to a newer LG because I like them and they are dirt cheap on eBay since they've announced they're out of the phone biz.

Only thing that worries me is can't swap batteries by yourself anymore (I think the V20 was the last one that allowed that)

Super stoked. Came to what amounts to $364 Canadian with duty and conversion, and I'm still on that cheap contract (it's $42 can. Now unlimited everything accept data which is 8GB/month, I almost never go above 3GB)

Excited to get a new phone. I try to get 4 years out of a top of the line (or in this case close to) phone. Just thought I'd jump on the LG Velvet 5G because I like everything about it accept the google assistant button but I'll figure a way around that.

Kind of just wanted to resurrect this thread to see what other people are using and paying?

I’m still rocking my seven, want to upgrade to an se, the pros are nice, great cams but I like buttons and Touch ID. If the next one has it like the iPad mini then I’ll be all over it.

That's the phone I bought.

It's gone up $10, still a complete steal.

Yeah, it's not super high end to some, yet it is IMO a flagship phone, certainly feels like one.

It's also BRAND NEW, not refurbished in any way as far as I can tell. It's 9.9/10 because it does not ship in the original box, but appears to be a brand new phone. Sexy as hell.

Just a heads up for anyone who's an Android person. Especially if you're in the states, $250 for a phone this good and then go "bring your own phone" not sure what they call it in the USA, but in Canada, you want the latest and greatest phones you have to lay down several hundred, then pay $50 a month for 24 months, and THEN pay a premium for your phone service, like $80 to $120 a month. It's messed up.

It has a headphone jack, very important to me. The battery is killer (but will surely weaken over time) heavy use all day and I'm around 85% battery, mind blowing (for now)

Anyway, I'll shut up. Just completely over the moon with these LG phones off ebay, feel like I got away with robbery.

I been avoiding phones without removable batteries.

I bought a few V20's(and batteries)over the years as it meets my minimum 4gb ram mandatory need.
But the batteries don't last and the performance isn't there these days so I thankfully found a alternative that wipes the floor with the V20(except with the camera)

Meets my requirements and does circles around the V20 in performance.

Not trying to h8 bro just wanted you to know about this excellent (removable battery alternative)

I’m on day 4 with Verizon Wireless support. I’m asking them to turn off my voicemail and they don’t know how.

This is crazy.

Why do you want them to turn it off?

I get endless spam calls. I block them daily. Probably blocked a couple thousand by now. But they just keep coming. They go to voicemail too. So I get notifications which annoy the f*** out me and I have to delete the voicemails and delete the deleted.

s*** we all get endless spam calls. I think my voicemail maxed out at one point, because I wasn't keeping up with deleting them.

Someone left me a voicemail.

So, I could check it by calling my Voicemail. Enter my PIN. Sit there and listen to the Voice Menu. Press a button to pick an Option. Listen it read off the phone number and time of the call and start playing the message.

This process is so damn slow and archaic. The best alternative to make it work is Text From Voice messaging, but I don't want another subscription to made a lousy technology more tolerable.

Yup, and I want none of that. I would love to just not have a phone, but that isn't happening. I am now gonna focus on still disabling voicemail, and then set my phone to only allow calls from people in my contacts. I can't stand phones, but it's a necessary evil.

Appreciate the heads up.

I will say, so far this Velvet 5g is blowing my mind, including the battery.

Heavy use all day with the screen at 80% and battery is sitting at 85% when I get home from work.

But yeah, I know it can take just a year for a battery to get crap so we'll see. It's a damned shame all these companies went away from user swappable batteries and headphone jacks etc.

I'm gonna start looking at it like "can I get 2 years out of this phone?)

$360 canadian for an amazing phone like this (with a headphone jack) is a steal compared to how much every single other person I know is paying for their phones and service.

Anyway, I will probably never NOT buy a phone off ebay from some dude in NYC ever again. My V20 is still fine too, the last battery I got for it ($12 free shipping from somewhere in Toronto, arrived a couple days later in a bubble envelope) is the best one yet.

It's my old man's phone now. He's an Apple guy (iPads etc) but at the age he never wanted an iPhone, but he could really use with a phone so I'm happy to pass it on to him, and it's still mint thanks to Gorilla Glass and fresh battery every year.

I'll check that phone out though. Thanks.

I love phone calls from people I know but hate texting.

People spend all day texting about s*** they could bang out in a 5 minutes phone conversation! Let's just say this attitude has caused me relationship trouble with the womens. But that's just how I feel.

I hear you on not wanting to interact with people you don't care about though.

iPhone. Anyone know how to remove the music widget from the Lock Screen? I don’t want to see it when I am playing music.

I have googled a lot and no luck 🤔

My Note 10 Plus, I got almost two years ago, is the first flagship phone I've ever got. Thinking my next one should be a IPhone just so that I can have experienced both brands. I, however, really don't like the fact that there's no touch ID in recent and newer iPhones

FaceID works amazing... unless you're wearing a mask. By the time you upgrade, there should be no masks. Fingers f***ing crossed!

works great if you have the apple watch haha.
I did always want a watch, not specifically a Apple, so it would good excuse to get one.

I'm also scared that seeing things run in 120hz on a Pro Max will make me want to buy a new TV lol.
