The 3D printing/Figurines/Minitures Hobbyists thread

Just cancel my Adobe plan. DO not want to pay 12€ per month & I already have Affinity Photo & Clip studio which I can use & but have no subscription service.
Since I’m back in school I was able to get student discount. $20 a month for full suite.

I pay 11,99€ for the Photopackage. Its not super expensive compare to *cough* Autodesk that charged me 25€ for MayaLT. I wanted to consider switch to free Blender (must relearn ) but got auto renew from Autodesk for a year. LOL.

Were you just using photoshop?
Mostly, but I barely need to use it. I prefer most time clip art studio for the paintng part which I do most time. I m too lazy to edit Travel photos.

I purpsoely bought Affinity photo so I can stop pay monthly fee for photoshop. The one advnatage photoshop has over Affinity/CLip art is the art filter, that easily convert photo to painting

Wait, you paid 15 euros, a month for the suite? It’s 50 dollars a month here :(

I guess I gotta finally try clip, I hear tons of good things, I do have procreate but mainly use sketchbook, I think it’s adobe lol

11,99€ (maybe its 12,99) include photoshop, bridge, Adobe cloud, Lightroom & some other I never bother to have a look.

Maybe the 50€ has some package I do not have like Adobe Premiere or something, Not sure. I do not need Premiere since I can use free Davinci Resolve.

The reason I still use Autodesk Maya LT is I am already very proficient in Maya (even learned the scripting language MEL) & the native file formats are not transferable to Blender unlike aDobe file format which can be read/edit by other software, I have like hundreds of files in MayaLT format of various models I done over the years for my game & more.

Hmmm, is it perhaps Adobe illustrator (for vector art)? How much is Maya? Did you ever use Max? Or does autodesk own them all, including a 3D CAD program that’s very similar to 3D Studio Max?

MAX & Maya are all under Autodesk. They used to be from different company, but Autodesk bought them both. That and mudbox which probably died by now. The

300+ a year I was charged. So about 25€ a month. Not Maya mind you MayaLT, but for my purpose, its enough, but its a sore thumb consider you get FULL version. The full Maya version, I think 5x the sub price. To add insult, its still version 2020, while the full Maya version get 2022...

Blender for FREE. But I learned Maya well before Blender was a thing, from just books from Library. Maybe I will need to spend a week or 2 dedecated time to learn Blender. But since I already paid for 1 year renewal, the motivation is not high, at least until the next renewal.

But Blender seems to be on fire in recent years. It has a proper Scupting tool that Maya do not even have Now. Also Blender recently added CAD tools. Not that it matter since I have Catia (from work), but its massive & give the big boy MAX & Maya more than a run for the money.

The Interesting thing is, Blender would NOT have existed if legecy 3D software are not arbsurdly expensive. Maya full version used to be 5 figures!!!!!

Update on my new project:
Work in progress:

To create the Amazon (from Diablo 2) I have to make the base Chibi body. After that, I add the base hair, base armor & so on. Still need base shoes, base arm guard, base shield, base spear, & Base knee guard.

After all the base part is done, I will transfer the base meshes to Zbrush for detailing to output detail armor, detail shoes etc.

2 shield options will be made available, Monarch (kite shield) or wonder woman round shield

Character posed. Some fine-tuning will be done, & made ready for splitting & 3D printing tests. The split points will be the arms at the gauntlets, & the head at the neck. This will be much simpler than my previous Lara Croft.

You make an ig account for your figures? Maybe make a Facebook one too, make a description in every language you know

Can’t wait to see what’s next 😎

One of my most popular videos, & the only one with ads is a tutorial/guide on digital sculpting. SO I decided to do more tutorial/guide. If it doesn't bosst my youtube, at least I may help someone.
Since I am making the outfit for Catwoman, I figure I will share my workflow.

I spent 10 hours on last Sat on this. 2 hours on actual work and 8 hours on making the video.
Going forward, I will record my work so people can maybe more appreciate the amount of work, as well as learn something.

I constantly get dismissals from people thinking all I do is use a generic character template from the Internet & add a few things & change a few colors.
But to be fair, its also flattering, as they think the level of detail on what I made is beyond created of from the ground up.

This is my longest video ever. The video runs about 21 mins, & I trimmed a lot of fat, & spend up many parts. But core details need to be in. Its a balancing game.
This is a fairly comprehensive guide, not a 3 mins how to video. Let see how well it do. As usual, liking the video wil help me a lot to grow.

I am starting to have ads on my videos, which is a good size, but I need to hit 1000 subs before consideration for monetisation & I am a long way to go.

In any case, I would super appreciate if anyone can critique my videos & how to improve them.

I am pondering a few poses.

That’s fantastic, all around.

Are you posting on Reddit or other 3d forums or make an Instagram for it?
