PS5 System Software Updates - SSD Info - Atmos, Discord And Streaming

I hate LG but the facts are on paper QD-OLED makes LG's offerings pale in comparison.

That is true, we'll have to see what they look like side by side and price difference to see, arstechnica did a great write up on it it's awesome tech.

Samsung doesnt even support Dolby Vision, would never consider an OLED from them because of that. Oh and only up to 65”? Lol

Whoa, thanks for this. It was a great read and also shines a light at just how fast things keep changing/improving. We still have to see how QD-OLED performs in comparison LG's flagship model. And LG is also rolling out its EX Tech this year so its going to be interesting to see how they all stack up. As the article points out Sony is still going to be using LG's panels for their other OLEDs which highlights just how firm a grip both LG & Samsung have on the industry.

One thing I don't understand about Sony. Why is it they only provide 2 HDMI 2.1 ports instead of 4 like LG? It makes no sense not to match the competition especially when asking for a higher price.
I wish all tv makers would make all inputs the full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1, several sets out now including some LG sets have HDMI 2.1 but they aren't full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 they are like 40Gbps.

Luckily Sony is releasing the first QD-OLED and Samsung just makes the panel, dolby vision is listed on the product page. If you really are into Dolby Vision I don't think OLED is the type of tech you want, the limited brightness doesn't really allow DV to do what it's supposed to do. That being said no tv on the market fully uses DV the way it's intended, you'd need a 12-bit panel for that and no sets currently on the market are over 10-bit.

I guess its all opinion based I suppose because I recently read a tech article which made the case that HDR/Dolby Vision is best suited for OLED screens. The article pointed out that because of OLED high contrast ratio and vibrant colors that traditional LED can't match made those bright highlights from HDR and or DV stand out more even with lower overall brightness of OLED.

Its not like I have two TVs side by side so I'll never know. I just pick one like I did recently and its made me a convert to OLED. I'm still on the hunt for an OLED in the 65" range that can handle reflections better than the C1 I have. The C1 has great picture but any light source behind me is reflected so this screen in my livinngroom would be troublesome unless I keep the curtains drawn which is not something I always like to do, I need a little sunshine every now and then.

A nice LED tv gets dramatically brighter with much more detailed highlights than OLED.
Also OLED can't hold over a 100 and change nits long due to ABL issues.
HDR/DV is far better suited for A nice LED

The Sony does and I would still rather go with a QD-OLED without DV vs a dated LG OLED.

If any of yaw buy A LG this year instead you will be left behind.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

If you own one already, enjoy it as tech moves fast.

Tech always moves fast in TVs you'll always be left behind, I got the C1 as it has pretty much everything I need unlike most competitors.

I don't even have my C1 on full brightness I don't know why you'd want to go so bright and burn your eyes. I wouldn't go LED again after using both and seeing side by sides, there's definitely no going back, maybe for QD, but not LED.

OLED as it is today can't hit the brightness needed to take full advantage of HDR but I don't think anyone can deny that when looking at an OLED next to any LED-LCD set the OLED image looks cleaner and more impressive.

This guy saw the Samsung QD-OLED screen in person at Samsung Display, sounds like it's a definite improvement over LG's OLED, 1500 nits and lower risk of burn in, true whites and better shadow detail. It's made by Samsung Display not Samsung's tv arm so that's why it's coming out on a Sony tv first.

The LG C1 offered the best price/performance combo compared to almost anything the competition has on offer. I've had Sony & Samsung TVs so those were the brands I first looked at. But they just didn't have the gaming options I was looking for and most agree the C1 is where its at. Obviously the competition is catching up feature wise but I didn't want to wait. I wanted a new display for my shiny new consoles.

In my opinion those who suffer from FOMO are more than likely just not happy with what they have or are able to afford. So they resent their purchase and wish for something they don't have.

New Party Chat Options

In response to community feedback, we've made some updates to the Parties system:

  • Open and Closed Parties (PS5 and PS4 betas)
    • When you start a party, you can now select either an open party or a closed party:
      • An open party lets your friends see and join the party without an invite. Friends of party members can also join.
      • A closed party is only for players you invite.
    • Note: in Game Base on PS5 and Party on PS4, if you select [Open Party] when starting a party, only players using the beta version of the PS5 or PS4 system software will be able to join. To start a party that players who aren't using the beta version can also join, select [Closed Party].

  • Voice chat reporting feature update (PS5 beta)
    • If you want to report something that someone in a party said, there are now visual indicators for you to identify who was speaking. This will help PlayStation Safety take appropriate action based on your report. You can learn more about this feature here.
  • Share Play update (PS5 beta)
    • Start Share Play directly from the voice chat card. You no longer need to start Share Screen first to use Share Play.

PS5 Game Base Enhancements

  • Voice chats are now called parties. For easier access, we've divided the Game Base menu into three tabs: Friends, Parties and Messages.

    • Add a player to a group or create a new group directly from Game Base in the Control Center. You can also send text messages, quick messages, images, video clips, and view a group's shared media from this card.
    • When someone in a party is sharing their screen, you'll now see the (on air) icon.
    • We've made it easier to decline friend requests by adding a [Decline] button to your friend request list.

New PS5 UI Features

  • Filter by genre
    • We've added an option to filter your game collection by genre, letting you quickly find specific types of game experiences.

  • Start Share Screen from the Create menu
    • From the Create menu, you can now start a Share Screen and stream your gameplay to an open party.

New Accessibility Features

  • More Screen Reader languages
    • Screen Reader, which reads aloud on-screen text and provides spoken guidance for operating the console, is now supported in six additional languages: Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, and Korean.
    • This expands Screen Reader support to 15 languages, including the current ones (United States English, United Kingdom English, Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, French and Canadian French).
  • Mono audio for headphones
    • You can now enable mono audio for headphones so the same audio is played from both the left and right headphones, instead of a stereo or 3D audio sound mix. This feature provides an added option to enhance the PS5 audio experience, particularly for players with unilateral hearing loss.**

  • Check marks for enabled settings
    • You can now show a check mark on enabled settings so you can easily see that they're turned on.

Voice Command (Preview): U.S. and U.K. limited release

  • We're also testing a feature that enables voice commands for finding and opening games, apps, and settings, as well as controlling media playback on the PS5 console.
  • This feature is currently available in English for beta participants with accounts registered to the U.S. and U.K.
  • To get started, enable Voice Command (Preview) from the Settings menu. Then, call out "Hey, PlayStation!" and ask your PS5 console to find a game, open an app or setting, or control playback while enjoying a movie, TV show or song.

  • You can help us improve the feature through our feedback program, which will sometimes record your voice commands (in accordance with our Privacy Policy) and let you provide instant feedback from time to time. You can turn this feature off at any time within system settings(see above). This feature never records audio for child accounts.
  • We're in an early testing phase for this feature and will be closely assessing it and listening to your feedback throughout the beta. For more details, check out this page.

The voice stuff is cool. Why no screenshot command, though?
