Yeah there have been 2 revisions since launch, they seemingly went over the top with the heatsink in the launch units. The newer one has the smaller chip in it too so it has an even smaller heatsink and still runs cooler.

I meant in terms of improving from original design, not necessarily its defective percentages.
Right. That’s what I assumed you were talking about. I haven’t seen any breakdown of Xbox consoles physically (tear down?). We are probably on the same hardware as day one.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has posted a far better week at physical retail than last year's disappointing Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Sales of the new title are 42% up compared with Vanguard, and nearly 9% up over Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from 2020.

Sales are down 61% compared with 2019's Modern Warfare, although downloads have since become dominant and digital sales data will be available later in the week. 53% of boxed sales were on PS5, 29% on Xbox and 18% on PS4, although do note that Xbox tends to perform more strongly when it comes to digital market share.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the third biggest physical release of the year, behind FIFA 22 and Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

The arrival of Call of Duty means FIFA 23 ends its four-week stay at No.1 and drops to second place. The EA football game continues to trend slightly ahead of its predecessor in terms of boxed sales by just over 7,000 copies.

Nice to see that the PS5 version is being bought more even though the userbase is smaller.

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2022/10/sackboy-a-big-adventure-has-proven-very-unpopular-on-pc

After the PC port of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection set the record for the lowest player count of any Sony game at launch, Sackboy: A Big Adventure has come along and beat it by an alarming margin. Across its first weekend on sale, the highest number of players it had at any one time was just 610. Compare this to the 10,851 peak the Nathan Drake remasters recorded and it's immediately clear how unpopular Sackboy has proven on PC.
Of course, player counts do not necessarily translate into hard sales, but SteamDB has Sackboy: A Big Adventure tagged as the 121st best-selling game on the platform. Significantly older ports like Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Goneall have thousands more active users recorded over the past 24 hours and appear higher in Steam's best-selling charts.
As of 31st October 2022, Sony's PC ports have recorded the following highest concurrent number of players:
  1. God of War — 73,529 (10 months ago)
  2. Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered — 66,436 (three months ago)
  3. Horizon Zero Dawn — 56,557 (two years ago)
  4. Days Gone — 27,450 (two years ago)
  5. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection — 10,851 (eight days ago)
  6. Sackboy: A Big Adventure — 610 (15 hours ago)
Unless games are handed big price cuts — or experience a sudden surge in popularity like Cyberpunk 2077 — then these record concurrent player counts generally don't get beat outside of the opening week. As such, it's a sorry sight for Sackboy: A Big Adventure. The lack of marketing for Sony's most recent PC ports has been suggested as one reason for the general disinterest, with both Uncharted and Sackboy rumoured for a long time but never officially announced.
A PC port or Returnal is also all but confirmed, with a video of its settings menus uploaded to the internet. It should at least prove more popular than Sackboy whenever it eventually arrives, but it appears Sony's PC ports aren't setting the Steam charts alight anymore. What do you think? Ps5 games usually sell more then PS4 games don't they? At least from what's posted here.

PS5 would have a more active userbase moving on from PS4 going out and buying games and there'll be a ton of PS4/Xbox ones out there just for Minecraft, Fortnite eytc.

Yep. Been that way for a while and as was recently posted the PS5 has sold over 2M so you would expect most sales to be on the fresher console.

Indeed. As expected, some gamers would want to experience the newest games on the newer consoles to get that current gen experience, which is also driving sales of the new consoles.

People waiting to get a PS5 to experience current gen for the same game unless they have no intention of upgrading for a while.
That makes sense. But there are still 100+ million PS4 owners. Most people don’t wait for COD to upgrade.

But they will be happy if they do. The current gen COD campaign is the best looking game on console.

That's what I was getting at, I doubt a good chunk of those ps4 owners even care about upgrading. A big percentage of active users have probably already got their PS5 and it shows in sales splits for every game.

It still doesn't make sense.

The majority of gamers are casuals. All we have heard for decades is casuals don't jump on new consoles, and that casuals are the money makers. We have been told that by Gamers, Devs, and hardware makers.

So, PS4 and Xbox 1 sales should be higher.

I would like to see NPD sales splits between current gen and last gen. There is probably an overlap too between those who buy games early right at launch over those who can wait for a sale. The most hardcore most likely already went out and bought a current gen console and they are one of those who own a last gen too.

RIP PlayStation.
