Xbox has addressed its surprisingly low-key participation in The Game Awards on Thursday, where it opted to make no major game announcements at the show.

Some fans expressed frustration following the event, which featured major reveals from rival platform holder Sony in the form of Final Fantasy 16, Death Stranding 2, and Forspoken, but nothing significant from Microsoft.

Seemingly responding to the reaction, Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg tweeted to reassure fans that 2023 would be "incredibly exciting" for the platform and that fans wouldn't have to wait long for news.

“We have a lot planned to show and share about an incredibly exciting year ahead for 2023,” he wrote. “Appreciate folks are eager to learn and see more. Timing is always key, but don’t worry you will not have to wait too long for what’s next from us.”

I hope there is one. It would be perfect timing for what they have coming in 2023.

There should be one. Xbox needs to start strong in 2023 and a small showcase would be a good start. Mainly focus on Redfall, Starfield, and Forza Motorsport, with release dates for the first 2. Plus a little Hellblade 2, maybe show Fable or Contraband or Indiana Jones.

Especially since most of them are going on game pass, and Sony’s first party looks weaker next year (so far anyways).

I do feel like it would’ve been a smarter move to showcase some at the GAs, more eyes on them no matter the fandom. But Geoff makes the calls on what to show. Maybe he worked something out with Xbox to showcase, say like a test bed, perhaps?

I don't. It was December. The year was a bust. might as well have wrote it off. They could have shown Redfall, Starfield and Forza sure, but the result of that would have just been the same "Xbox only showing the same stuff. BAD.BAD.BAD. While Sony gets high praise for an old game we had seen a load of, a game years away, and 3rd party game.

Maybe end of January do a little first half 2023 showcase and then release Redfall at the end of the show.

Ideally what needs to happen, IMO, in 2023 is Redfall in January. Starfield Late February/Early March. Forza Motorsport in April. E3 event in June showing off Fable, Contraband, Everwild, Indiana Jones, Perfect Dark, Avowed, Hellblade 2 and some new exclusives. With atleast 2 of their first party games coming in Q3/Q4 2023.

All I'm expecting is new game play for Red Fall, Starfield, Forza. release dates for those games. Forza Horizon 5 DLC 2 announced with trailer. Then maybe some trailers for Game Pass Day 1 games, Maybe some release dates for those without them, like Lies of P.

Maybe even something for that Fallout 4 current gen update.

Fallout ports to next gen on unreal engine, whilst id software gives them the side eye ;)

What you need to know

  • A new Xbox showcase has been rumored for some time now, and we believe we have some concrete information on it finally.
  • Our sources suggest the showcase is called Xbox Developer_Direct, and will feature content from Xbox and Bethesda.
  • Games expected to appear include Redfall, Forza Motorsport, and Minecraft Legends.
  • This will be an intimate look at major games for 2023, as Microsoft seeks to ramp up transparency and frequency on upcoming Xbox games.

Games we already know about. Yay!
Though Redfall looks like my type of game.

I still wish MS would have acquired Remedy.

No Starfield?? The hell MS.
"From what we understand, this won't be a full-blown E3-scale kind of show, and will be a more intimate look at some upcoming exclusives. As such, we've heard Starfield may even be skipping this show for a bigger marketing beat later on."

Now with fully destructible buildings.
Speaking of which, how about a new Red Faction announcement, Xbox exclusive. And they go back to the OG Red Faction destruction, which was pretty awesome. As was the Bad Company destruction.
