Are they counting the 10 billion PS5s that shipped bundled with the game? I can't believe how easy it is to get them at every Walmart in this area now after never seeing one for sale for over 2 years.
Yes they count those.

Over 37 million copies sold for TLOU franchise

While that is amazing, it really does put in perspective how surprisingly well Cyberpunk 2077 did for CDPR despite everything. TLOU franchise has been around for 9 years and hit 37 million in Dec 2022. Cyberpunk hit 20 million shortly after its 2nd birthday last December. Its a no brainer why a sequel got green-lit.

Do I think Cyberpunk will hit 40 million? Not likely but after all the hoopla, I didn't expect 20 million either.

Cyberpunk also did it with 1 release...

Also note that TLOU franchise only sold on PS platforms so that's an impressive feat all by itself. CDPR released on multiple platforms and PC , both last and current gen so that's a lot more potential buyers.

Having said that, Cyberpunk was hyped af and it under delivered at launch due to bugs and lots of issues. It deservedly had a revival period after all the updates and help from Edgerunners anime so I'm sure CDPR are happy too.

Gamepass will "save" that game.
Yeah a bunch of people will give it a shot and never think about it again but they'll have the standard "this many people played it because they didn't have to buy it" line which always cracks me up. That game looked so stupid I couldn't believe Sony paid money for timed exclusivity on it.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan during Sony's CES 2023 showcase announced the PlayStation 5 has sold over 30 million units worldwide.

Ryan also announced December was the biggest month ever for PlayStation 5 sales.

FY20
Q3 - 4.5M
Q4 - 3.3M
Total - 7.8M

FY21
Q1 - 2.3M
Q2 - 3.3M
Q3 - 3.9M
Q4 - 2.0M
Total - 11.5M

FY22
Q1 - 2.4M
Q2 - 3.3M
Total - 5.7M

So in FY22 Q3 they sold at least 5M units. It was the best quarter so far.

I like to see little niche games reach milestones and the devs be happy for it, each to their own.
