Official Thread New PC Hardware Discussion. POST YOUR RIG/SETUP.

Thinking of jumping in to the pc master race does anyone own a CLX gaming pc? If so would appreciate your thoughts / opinions, thanks.

Loving my upgrades. I can now enable RT AO in BF2042 without FPS tanking below 60 fps. Haven't tried other games yet, but damn my PC is blazing fast. It's like using a light switch. It boots up to windows at the touch of a button.

Post pictures of your rig!

The Living Tribunal spent a few months with the Ultrawide and even though it's a VA Panel I love it, I can't imagine going back to 16:9. 3440x1440 also bides well with my 3080 12GB, not as taxing as 4K but more resolution than 1440p. Best decision i made in a long time

That's how I felt about my ultrawide. When I can gather some coins I may get that OLED ultrawide from alienware.

I just went and bought 2

AOC CQ27G2

and a

AVerMedia GC573 Live Gamer 4K, Internal Capture Card, Stream and Record 4K60 HDR10

It will come tomorrow, I was on the fence all weekend about these items on sale. I was afraid it might go back up...so I bought all of it! 🤣

I have to return my capture card because I guess I didn't notice it was not compatible. So I will get an external capture instead with a 120Hz capture and pass through.

*update* my old capture card won't work because I'm off the resolution. I'm on 1440p and the device is 1080p...fuk my life! 🤣

I have the El gato hd 60s, haven't had any problems running 3440x1440 and 4K through it. Has 4K 60 passthrough.

With PS and Xbox games going to PC now, I might actually have to build a PC for gaming. The fact that online is free as well is a nice bonus. I won't do it now, but maybe mid generation if we don't see a PS5 Pro or an Xbox Series X Pro.

But I would want to build it nice. I know nothing is future proof. But can I buy a future proof tower and motherboard? Or when CPU/GPU/RAM change, will I have to always upgrade the motherboard or even the tower?

I know that Windows 11 is the latest OS, and I am not a fan of Windows. But it is what it is. Is there a way to run Windows 11 in way that it's barebones with nothing in the background running other than the games and the OS itself so that it's clean, fast and not getting hung up on anything? The PC would for 100% gaming. No MS office, no music, no video. Games only. And of course the web browser.

Depends on what manufactuer you go with. Intel notoriously made you change motherboard with every new cpu. AMD does not.

What does the capture card do that the PC cannot without ? Just curious
I think it is how to process the video differently, I think it is called decoding or something. I can technically do it without the capture card, but that means I have to give up resources to achieve this. This card is more of an external card that takes that load away and allows me to make cooler overlays. I could be wrong, but for years I have done it this way and if you have watched me (I know you have), you can see how much I have improved to make it work.

I was wondering how much it would cost to build a high-end gaming pc? something that can do all of the high-end stuff (ray tracing etc) and run it at least 60fps or more.

At what resolution?

I would say that everything at this point is future-proof apart from the motherboard.

Assuming you are buying the latest and greatest.

I am not so lucky with my I9. I cannot move on from that chipset, and I can't get a replacement at a reasonable cost if something goes wrong. But everything aside from motherboard, CPU and RAM (so.....the big stuff) should be ok on a new rebuild if I had to do that, then upgrade the rest from there.

Cases, latest RAM (is it GDDR5 now?), PSU, M.2 drives (I don't know if I'm saying that right) graphics cards, should be fine. Software is fine.

It's when they change the CPU chipset on the motherboard where you get screwed and that has been happening too much, like every year or something, I don't even look anymore because I know I have to re-do my PC if something goes wrong.

I guess I'm being nostalgic about (I think) Intel 1155 chipset? felt like that lasted a decade and you could keep upgrading.

Just do your research.

Not my gaming rig, but my work office setup. It was a mess & I decided to make it more conducive for working since it looks like home office is to stay for a while.

Before the overhaul. Cables are nasty. insufficent lightning on cloudy days, lack of space. Messy.

After the overhaul. More spacious. Better cable management. , more space, more tidy.

What I did:
Bought a 6 socket power plug (used to be 4) allow me to add a lamp (was using usb powered lamp), & phone cableless charger (below the laptop)
Bought a table/monitor riser allowing more space & better cable management.
Bought a wireless mouse (20€ cherry brand) to replace the wired one for less cable.
Remove the nasty stickers on the right of the main monitor as well as the post it tape on laptop.
Not seen in the picture, is I roll up the cables so they are less messy.

More to do:
More plants (most likely fake ones)
Add a board or something on blank wall above the laptop
Swapping to new better laptop that I ordered (paid by my company of course).
Mat for keyboard & mouse.
I may consider getting a better-feel keyboard.
A usb Monitor lamp may be consider. I have one on my private PC.
Cable management box for a power socket. I try to buy at ikea on sat but it was not found.

Looks much better! Now to switch from Windows to Mac 😎

My PSU died overnight for some reason.

A Seasonic Focus+ Gold 650w.

I had to go to work, but I like to get up a bit early so I can chill and have my coffee and watch a youtube vid etc.....

Didn't have time to confirm that it was the PSU so my father checked it with the paper clip method, dead PSU.

Bought a new one (Corsair RM650x or something....didn't have time to do a lot of research) and......

It's ALIVE! I was really worried it would be more than the PSU. I absolutely dread my motherboard dying because they just don't even make them anymore (Z370/390 aka 9th gen Intel) so yeah, not bad. I'd really like to get another 5 years out of this build.

But damn a Seasonic failed on me? :(

Damn, how long have you had it? I think seasonic has like a 10+ year warranty on most of PSU.

I still have my Corsair HX850 in my system from like 2013, this was when Seasonic was the OEM for HX models.

Dude, PC's are so fast now. Nothing wrong with Windows, it's pretty customizable.

CPU's and those NVME drives on the motherboard are just crazy, like reboot in the blink of an eye.

People s*** talk about Windows so much. I absolutely look into how to optimize things, but even if you don't everything right now is crazy fast.

But just for gaming? Dang, I do everything on my HTPC, everything. Research is important though, google is your friend.

Since I built it, probably 5 years now?

Those 10 year warranties are kind of useless to me because the cost to ship it from Canada, and then having to wait.

I have an old Corsair something or other that has a noisy coil (basically sounds like a hard drive clicking like crazy) and I looked into RMA'ing it and it just wasn't worth the shipping cost.

Man I'm just glad it was just the PSU. Opened it up to find that the fuse is blown using a multimeter, but then even if I could get a replacement (it's soldered in) something probably caused the fuse to go.

Maybe I'll see about...... oh wait, I opened it up, warranty void haha!

I really wouldn't mind getting better cables. The new PSU is fully modular but the cables are way more messy than the ones that came with the Seasonic, anyone know where to find really simple, single cables for a PSU?
