Coulda swore there was a thread for this….fyi great book
Where can I watch this variant? Is it only for the first one?The chinese-created adaptation was quite good. I expect the netflix version to have much more action though.
N Body Problem is scary tooHere is something that I thought of while reading that series that kind of blew my mind and freaked me out a little :
Our universe is three structural dimensions and one temporal (time). To even exist at all it needs a single point of creation - where it started expand from. So following that logic it makes sense to say that there is a single point within our universe that we can not move past within our three dimensional existence.
That sounds very like one of the dimensional weapons folding down the higher dimensions to create our universe.
Seriously. That’s kind of f***ing terrifying

I am the walrus
I don’t want to spoil the story but basically in the story of Three Body Problem there are super advanced aliens that destroy other alien species by using a weapon that basically collapses dimensions. So when you hear about events like The Big Bang, that event was one of those weapons being used to destroy a higher dimension universe (5th dimension for example).

I'm thinking of this from a string theory perspective. The point where the three structural strings meet gives us dimensions and time then gives the sequence of events that make up the expanding universe. So from our point of view there is a point where the universe began and time started. A point where we can't exist past. Not sure that does make sense to say.
If we concede that the universe is structured that way, then the three dimensional space we have to move freely and without limitation is on a scale we couldn't really imagine or comprehend.
There is no point in three dimensional space we can't move beyond. Three dimensional space is always expanding. The only limitation for existence is the temporal dimension.
String theory is made up of more dimensions, though. It doesn't work with conventional three dimensional space + time.I'm thinking of this from a string theory perspective. These points exist in Three Body Problem and they are caused by those dimension folding weapons that deployed. Thats what is kind of freaky.

I’m not discussing string theory itself just the first four dimensions as proposed by it. I’m not saying space is linear. Also when you say “String theory is made up of more dimensions, though. It doesn't work with conventional three dimensional space + time.
But regardless, any space that expands from a creation point does so in all directions, it isn't linear. Therefor, any creation point is at the centre of the expanding universe and thus can't limit us. It is a starting point.
You would need to explain why this roadblock only blocks movement but not sight of the vastness beyond too.
Your referring to classical physics (quantum mechanics) when you say “conventional”? If so you are wrong. Time is not a consideration within quantum mechanics. There are only three dimensions basically in that. String theory is an attempt to take time and gravity into the equation. Quantum mechanics can’t answer what I’m talking about. It doesn't work with conventional three dimensional space + time.
I'm not talking about quantum mechanics. I looked at your comment from a classical physics (which isn't Quantum Mechanics) way first.I’m not discussing string theory itself just the first four dimensions as proposed by it. I’m not saying space is linear. Also when you say “

I’m in no want trying to say I’m right. I’m looking at this from a philosophical position in the consideration of those four dimensions. It’s absolutely fascinating. And thank you for the counter points!I'm not talking about quantum mechanics. I looked at your comment from a classical physics (which isn't Quantum Mechanics) way first.
Then I looked at it via the other theory who brought up, String Theory.
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying that from what I remember it doesn't appear to be "safe to say."
