Xbox One can read the HDMI signal from a PS4 and thus allow Microsoft's console to host Sony's, an executive has confirmed.

Because of the Xbox One's HDMI-in port, users will be able to feed the PS4's HDMI cable into the rival system. The on-screen result would be a PS4 running within an Xbox One overlay.
Microsoft executive Albert Panello confirmed that Xbox One users could theoretically multi-task between both consoles.
"Any application can be snapped to a game... so if you wanted to be playing Ryse and Killzone at the same time, you could snap that," he said, as quoted by Gamespot.
Killzone is a PlayStation-owned IP, with a new instalment in the series due for the PS4's launch.
Panello's comments also imply that any games console outputting through an HDMI cable can be displayed on the Xbox One, from Xbox 360 to PS3.
The Xbox executive, who was speaking to gathered journalists at the Tokyo Game Show, also warned users against vertically standing their Xbox Ones.

I am glad they confirmed this, because this has been my plan to do all along. My Xbox One will be my main machine, and I will be snapping my PS4 into my Xbox One.

I kinda expected this, otherwise it would imply that MS made their HDMI-IN work with everything, but took time for it not to work with PS4.

yo that automatically makes the X1 the main console/device.....receivers,Tv,Ps4 under the control of Xbox One. I just wanted to say " Xbox On" and watch the PS4 obey.. I like it!

lol. I guess that would make the PS4 a...slave device...

X1 as the main console in every home. If you want a PS4 then stash it somewhere just connect the HDMI to the X1.

The PS4 will be my X1's little b@#$h! Oh snap!

Someone here had the question on whether you can snap any app, or game and game..here's the answer :) Ryse and Killzone..lol that would be almost ADD

Imagine living with a roommate. Depending how big the snap is, dibs on the tv may no longer be an issue.

I will play COD Ghosts on both Xbox One and PS4 via SNAP and compare graphics ;)

MS must have known that allowing PS4 games to be snapped with X1 games would have some people doing multiplat comparisons..they must be pretty confident in the X1
I think we will be pleasantly surprised. Hopefully the "snapped" item isn't a reduction in picture quality.

i bet its more along the lines of "it should just work" philosophy they had with media devices on the 360. And also, its a nice idea to make it so your competitor is secondary.

Here's my question. What if I connect the PS4 to the X1, then I want to watch TV instead? Do I have to mannual disconnect the PS4 from the HDMI IN and connect my Set top box's HDMI OUT?

For TV:

TV Cable Box > TV HDMI 1

For PS4 to Xbox One

Plug PS4 > Xbox One HDMI In. Then plug Xbox One HDMI out > TV HDMI 2

that's what I was thinking bro. Truly the X1 is gonna live up to it's name. All in one entertainment system to rule them all

Why would someone buy two copies of the same game just to compare them?

Then you lose the so called TV experience on the XB1. So its either PS4 output or the cable box.

Well, then I would ask MS to add multiple HDMI ins. Maybe one could:

TV HDMI in > Xbox One HDMI out

then

Xbox One HDMI in > A/V Receiver HDMI out

Then hook up PS4, Cable Box, Wii U, etc. to the A/V Receiver HDMI ins, requiring you to change the receiver input, but allowing you to switch between those on the snap?

Or just:

HDMI 1 : PS4
HDMI 2 : XB1 + Cable box

I just don't see the advantage hooking up another console to XB1 HDMI IN when you really want to have a cable box going in there.

Well, everyone can choose which route works best for them. I plan on entertaining all the options discussed so far to see which works best for me. No doubt, if the Xbox One supports DirecTV, I will most likely have DirecTV as my HDMI in feature for Xbox One.
