PS4 and Xbox One posted incredible sales figures in the UK, with Sony coming out on top.

PlayStation 4 has sold 530,000 units in the UK in just five weeks, according to Chart-Track, while Xbox One has sold 364,000 units [in six weeks]. It's a significant gap between the two competitors, although both numbers are significantly higher than any previous console launch.

PS4 hardware sales generated £181.8m on the UK High Street, while Xbox One made £144.5m. Together, that means the UK market made over £326m from next-gen console sales.

ERA director general Kim Bayley said, “Games continues to deliver digital sales strongly, but it was disappointing that Xbox One and PS4 came so late in 2013 and then huge demand meant stock sold out quickly. Retailers will be working hard in 2014 to maintain the sales momentum of these two great new pieces of kit.”

That's about 100K/week for PS4 vs. 60K/week for X1, on average.

I wonder if these numbers are "supply constrained," as they say. That is, whether everything is selling out.

Bloody hell mate. I figured it for a guess but Bob's your uncle, Sony did sell more.

No one named bob in my family. Yes I get it Sony is selling more. OOOOOOK. Sometimes I hit a letter on my phone to long, lol. The Wii sold more than the 360 or the PS3, ok. MS sucks ok. Guess what I STILL ENJOY IT.

:crazy:Man I'm about to buy some stock in MS just so I'm :bang:justified spending so much time talking about it:smash:Wait I'm still poor, lol, Thank you MS for putting out a piece of equipment that makes me feel like I'm filthy rich.

PS4 sold ~15k/day while xbox one sold ~8.67k/day.

PS4 sold almost twice as fast as the xbox one and is the fastest selling console for the months of November and December!

Is this just another case of "he who supplied the most sold the most"? Or are there like 200,000 X1's sitting on UK shelves unsold right now? Fair questions, no?

You can find both pretty easily in the UK.

Some places are still only doing rip off bundles to try and make some extra money but both are getting well supplied.

It's interesting that if you don't say something positive about a console then you must be saying something negative about it. Sigh, fanboys.

I am a fanboy. Not ashamed to admit it. Though I don't wish Sony, or Nintendo to fail for the simple fact that it would couse MS to become complacent.

whats the price difference is it 100 euros?
U.K use pounds, not Euros. But XBOX one cost 100€ more in European Union region where Euro is used.

XBOX is available everywhere while PS4 sighting are a rarity. In fact, the only one I seen was on a demo booth, playing one of the worst launch title, Knack. I played on the demo booth, & its pretty sucky.

I will not get next gen console until must have games are out, & I have a big backlog of games to play, on PC, & 360. I would not be surprise XBOX one (not seeing so for PS4) have a price drop by then.

I hear that. I love me some MS. And honestly I've hated Sony since the Dreamcast days. Mostly because they consistently over promised and under delivered. However, you are correct. MS needs Sony. As for Nintendo, they just need to go third party and handheld. It seems obvious they are out of touch. Currently I'm holding off on this generation and switching to PC gaming again.

I have been hearing that MS wasn't able to produce enough hardware for the UK, so that makes sense.

ms need to get the UK and European soccer fantasy league going on XB1 and more bundled deals if they don't drop price.

also i hope ms once supply is fully under control do a $299 +€£25/month for gold and paying off system for 24months.

The UK was one of the few places MS was able to beat Sony globally last gen, it's way too early to draw conclusions from these sales but PS4 selling better than X1 there all while still launching in many more parts of Europe can't make MS happy.

It's no surprise that XB1 may not have caught on outside of the US as the TV offerings are not in place. Right now only the US is seeing the full potential of the console.

So surprising how you can apparently grab one with ease then, its no where near being sold out.

Hopefully all those people appreciate their X1's and PS4's. Some of us don't have a choice in joining the new generation of consoles. Oh how I wish Blockbuster was around to rent a X1 so I can play some Dead Rising 3.

You have to remember that U.K was a rather big market, & traditional sold more 360 than PS3, & then imagine other places where PS3 sold better. There was a report posted recently of PS4 selling massively better than xbox in France, & I believe its the same case as Germany, & probably other launch nations. Then we also have to remember PS4 is launch in much more places. Individually, some of the places may have a small market, but they are a formidable size when combined.

2:1 to 2.5:1 ratio are reasonable deduction, but certainly I do not think 4:1. But ts still massive & I can't imagine MS will be happy about it.

MS need to bring content to the rest of the world that is on par with USA, otherwise, with the 100 bucks or so extra, its a hard sell. Otherwise a price drop or super burden is needed.

I'm not really surprised by those numbers...

Being from the UK I can honestly say that in my area I can get an X1 easily and not in a overpriced bundle, the PS4 on the other hand is harder to obtain without buying it in a premium bundle.

The biggest problem MS have here is that the PS4 is £80 cheaper and in the UK consumers are very price consonance, so the choice is a PS4 with two games or an X1 with 0 games. One of the reasons why MS did so well with the 360 here in the UK was the price £280 for a launch 360 Vs a £425 PS3.
