I'm fine with people not liking it, but as I asked pages ago - what are you grading against? The whole thing was a bunch of meh, and I think MS was a lot less meh than most. It isn't like anyone brought much of anything in a down year. MS bringing a new console was the most interesting thing by far for me.

I mean go sit through Ubisoft's entire show and come back :)

I was down on the show. There’s a lot of misses. I’m glad they had an E3 though. Getting feedback on this one will only help then next year. Hopefully it results in more gameplay next time.

Despite what I thought was a mediocre conference, I enjoyed the week. Interesting and mostly positive impressions of xcloud and Bleeding Edge. Good dev interviews from their new studios. Gameplay on the floor for their 1st party stuff. Good Xbox developer panel today. Elite controller 2 looks incredible. Game Pass announcements of Metro, Outer Worlds, Psychonauts 2 and Blair Witch were great.

Despite not caring for the Gears or Halo showings (due to lack of info) I’m feeling good about the direction of Xbox going into next year. Listening to Tim Schaefer say he can keep his publishing team, Ninja Theory leads talk about their creative freedom and that Microsoft bought Undead Labs a bunch of high level animators because that’s what they wanted to make their games better is giving me a good feeling about how the studios are being run. Got my Game Pass Ultimate. Signed up for the Bleeding Edge alpha.

Turned out to be a good week despite being very salty on Sunday.

You know I'm fine with Microsoft buying studios and I'm sure Sony will gobble up one or two as well but them announcing that they are buying a studio and everyone cheering is pretty embarrassing

When game studios are closing left and right and most of the studios acquired had to kick start a game to keep the studios a float I can understand why people would cheer. It add stability to the studio, more money for polish, and the right business model, so they don't have to be in the make a hit or die mentality.

That is the #1 reason why I am fine with it but we both know why people are cheering and that isn't the reason

Don't agree. Nothing wronh with pleasing your userbase. If Sony announced a new studio aquisition i'm sure the crowed would cheer also.

Don't get why it is embarassing?

Is announcing a new IP embarressing cause fans cheer?

You think the people cheering will be happy if/when Sony buys someone who makes Xbox games they like?

We are really supposed to being excited over the idea of Sony and Microsoft battling in acquisition wars?

likely not...but that doesn't explain why it is embarrassing.

Is that idea? I don't see that happening. MS bought these studios because they had to, I don't see them buying many more.

I think any acquisitions would be limited but they are both shopping certainly

Buying studios will make the Microsoft Xbox products better. In many situations, the devs will be able to put out better stuff. I’m a Microsoft customer so want better products. I want more buyouts. I’m not embarrassed.

Embarrassing is the incorrect word. All the major players create and promote this environment. It's how things are now. You must pick a side. Whether you are gaming, deciding how the country is run, choosing a phone. It's all toxic.. The word I would use is sad.

I've been told by the people who form my opinions that you are wrong and this opinion is wrong and I must therefore fight you to the death.

If you guys think this is bad..don't be surpised if next year Google swoops in and buys Ubisoft, Insomniac, Bungie and Remedy to compete with Sony and Microsoft.

Let's talk some more about embarassing to cheer then.

Apple will buy up the Ouya IP, slap an Apple sticker on it, charge $599 for it, win the next gen and people will cheer their visionary genius.

Acquiring Double Fine is about console wars? I dont see how.

I'm talking about the cheering when they buy someone. I'm talking about hoping they buy a certain studio. Treating it the same as wanting your favorite sports team to sign a player.

I see.

I think MS is announcing things like that because the games aren't ready to show.

Sooo..who will they acquire next?

Hopefully a studio worth a damn. Of the studios they have purchased recently only Obsidian and Playground move the needle for me. The rest are middling to decent IMO.

If Microsoft really gets it together than the studios can improve and benefit from their investment. If they haven't than any great studio would probably just get worse over time. So moving the needle shouldn't really be of any concern.

The one they built sounds like it could be awesome.
