It looks like they got that 50% increase from benchmarks with ray tracing on. So they are saying that Ray tracing is now viable, but the increase isn't that much in traditional gaming. Also they are talking about "holiday" release, SMH.
Well, I mean, I have a current card (it's a little higher end but it's still current) and its handling RT pretty damn well. I'm still running high framerates. Not at 4k, but that's fine. Its higher than 1080p. It'll get more and more optimized too.It's not viable with the current cards as the performance is way to costly.
No card handles RT well.
2080ti cant run 4K/30/RT Ultra and even that is terrible for PC gaming.

A new 6000 series card from AMD is supposed to have hardware based RT.Hope so. I just went with the 5700XT because it was the first time I was going to splurge somewhat on a video card but I wasn't dropping $900 on one. I just want a solid 4K ultra RT at 60fps, since that's what my monitor supports.

No, RT is expensive, and I do not expect it at 4k. Resolution isn't everything, and 1440p still looks great. RT is the future, and even some level of implementation is an improvement. Even if it's just GI and color bounce.Yeah, but you play with a RTX 2080 at 1080p. If you had a 4k screen I don't think you would like how it handles RT. Nvidia's looking to greatly increase the number of ray tracing cores in the 3000 series so it's possible that ray tracing will never be viable on those 2000 series cards. The fact that it isn't widely adopted by developers now is very telling.
Lol, this Ray tracing could be like the format wars all over again. I would definitely wait to see who wins out first. It's not guaranteed that AMD will be the winners since Sony seems to be using their own custom ray tracing solution.
As I suspected AMD won't be using any tensor cores for their ray tracing solution. How is it that Microsoft is able to implement ray tracing for Gears Of War 5 in just two weeks for AMD hardware, but they didn't do it in all this time for RTX?

Bro I want to play in 4K but use DLSS to fake 6K or even 8K!Being practical, anyone with an RTX 2070 and above will be just fine if DLSS/DirectML becomes a new standard like TAA is this gen. That's your preference if you want to play above 4k, but it wouldn't add anything to the experience for me. You sound dead set on picking up a next gen console anyway.

I have downsampled 6K to 4K and my desktop icons looked like actual stickers or magnets on my screen.
Downsampling takes way to much power through.
