With the unfortunate passing of Tom Clancy today I thought about one of my most anticipated next-gen titles, Tom Clancy's The Division. With the exception of Killer Instinct for the Xbox One, Tom Clancy’s The Division is the game I’m most looking forward to next generation. I’m not much of an RPG guy, but I am a shooter fan. When I watched The Division reveal at E3 my jaw dropped. It was the perfect, and seamless, joining of RPG elements and a shooter.

I couldn’t help but smile during the E3 reveal when the team finished the battle at the police station, snooped around the inside and attempted to extract but couldn’t because another team showed up and engaged them. It was like watching a Bourne movie where there chaos followed by a moment of relaxation then absolute chaos again to keep you at the edge of your seat. I guess it reminded me a lot of Gears of War. Gears has these quiet moments followed by absolute chaos. It’s great and always surprises you. With The Division there will be even more surprise moments because the enemies are other players. I want that chaos. I want those momentary downtimes. I want those surprises.

On The Division’s website there's a video I hadn’t seen before. It’s a companion video showing a teammate playing as a drone. Since you're a drone, you can see most of the area that you're fighting in. You can command the team, mark enemies and even call in missile strikes, all from a tablet. Also, if the firefight is too much to handle for your team, call in another player and use the tablet or smartphone to pinpoint the spawn location to make sure they arrive out of harms way. While I may have some reservations about the next generation of consoles arriving too early, it's features like the Companion mode in The Division that makes me feel comfortable about the next-gen arrival. Now, a release date please!

I’m not sure how I missed the companion video since it’s over a month old but it’s a great watch and it upped my anticipation for The Division. I didn’t think it was possible, but Killer Instinct was eclipsed as my most wanted next gen title. My most anticipated next-gen game now belongs to, Tom Clancy’s The Division.

Here’s the companion video followed by the E3 announcement trailer and some screens.

Very high on my list too for next gen games. Thanks for the companion video, I hadn't seen that either. This game looks beyond awesome.

Easily the most next gen looking game that's coming so far

This is turning into my most looked forward to next gen title. I love a good action/RPG title and this looks to be it. Seems like it is a "real world" foil to Bungie's "Destiny" sci-fi space opera. Hopefully we'll have two crazy good pseudo action/RPG games next year.

I'm pretty bummed about Tom Clancy's passing, I was a HUGE fan of his books in my teens and early twenties. I wonder if this will be the last game that uses his name.

Easily my most anticipated next gen game. Think it looks awesome, and while graphically it wont look like this on Console. It should still look decent. I love the idea of it though. Joining an apocalyptic event mid way through and trying to rescue ( mankind?) Manhatten from total obliteration.

Love that it is third person. Love the freedom in character skills and unlocks. The scale of the game seems impressive too with the entire Island of Manhatten and surrounding boroughs to ply your trade in. The big test will come in the overall story quality and the diversity of missions/events and just how much characters change with just a few choices being different. I also hope teamwork is crucial, and not just some gimmick word to throw around to try and entice those old school hardcore players.

This is the game I am looking forward to the most next gen. I was actually hoping for the new Rainbow Six, but this must be it, from what I am hearing. I hope it is just as fun and as successful.
