Spoilers below. No need for an eye exam.
They can't swim. So I guess if you were on a cruise or lived on a smaller island where they didn't directly land you were fine from the start? I mean obviously supplies would be an issue, but surely you could make quick supply runs to the shore using smaller boats. And one of those things just jumped in the water like it didn't know it couldn't swim, so why not just try to lure them to a lake? Just take some jet skis out and watch them jump in. I mean, if acting as live bait via jet ski is in Part 3 then sign me up.

I think you're overthinking this one, but I get your logic.
I think the issue is that most people aren't going to know about the water or have the ability to communicate once like cell towers and s*** go down. I also think that the crew who was living on the island didn't want to have literally every person trying to get there so they relayed a hidden message through the radio tower.
Also, to your last point, yes give me this. I wanna see some real Pirahna 3-D action with Emily Blunt wearin hot bikins rockin double shotties while hittin mad air on a jetski and then also telling me she loves me in person and wants to leave John Krasinksi
