Anthem

That's why reviews should drop number scores, as they are meaningless.

According to DF, the fps improved on X1X again with the day 1 patch, so now it almost holds at 30 all the time. I'm tempted, but now don't know whether to go PC or X1X. Of course the patch didn't auto download on my Xbox so waiting to try it. With EA Access it is cheaper on X1X.

edit: decided to get the PC version. Master race and all.

Also, giving games such as Celeste a 10 and this around 6 is insane, lol IGN
Celeste supposedly get high score due to awareness of mental health & depression, or something like that.

The disparity between reviewers & users both for movies/TV & game has widened considerably. Just look at Battle Angel.

Nowadays, I prefer user comments/reviews than 'journalists' as my own experience tends to align more with the formal.

I would be willing to bet its just good old gamers being an entitled, whining bunch of brats. No way this and CD3 deserve scores that low.

Which is the exact opposite of the impressions on sites like Reddit where the game is getting very favorable players reviews.

N = 1388 for the PC user reviews, so that's a lot of negative opinions. Probably many more than you're seeing at Reddit.

I don't have a dog in the hunt. I'm just responding to the post about user reviews being preferable.

I don't think I was a candidate for this game either way, because it's so MP-focused. I'm just curious how Bioware is doing. My conclusion: not so good. I was briefly intrigued by the press about how much they were emphasizing story, but that turned out to be a load of crap.

I’m not saying the game doesn’t have problems. It does. But the core mechanics, the flight, combat and customization are some of the best things I’ve seen since the original Titanfall brought us mechanic & pilot combat. The game is really solid. It does need work though and hopefully BioWare will deliver on it.
Also it’s not a MP focused game. It’s co-op focused but you could do as I do and switch the sessions to private so you can play it solo. I’ve only be using co-op for the Stronghold missions.

I've heard that argument in reviews, but it's not a deep dive into that, I don't even consider it anything more than a "believe in yourself" story. That reviewers interpret it as anything else is lol imo

What you find about this genre of game (that doesn't even exactly have a name - live service looter shooter?) is that the standards are just really high. People expect hundreds of hours of depth. A game like the new Metro takes about 20 hours or less to solve and gets well reviewed (I hear it is good, haven't played it). Yet with Anthem, people are complaining of being bored 30-40 hours in.

You also get the streamers who massively hype the game up to get clicks and then trash it to get more clicks. One recent streamer is bashing Anthem because he can't make his daily videos (IE make money). Let's all take a moment and shed a tear for those who might someday have to go out and get real jobs like the rest of us.

That's not to say they are wrong, it is just a different scale altogether. Many of us just want a game to play through for a bit and then move on to something else, then maybe circle back when it gets updated.

One thing that I find excellent is the movement style of the javelins. They all have really unique move sets. You can tell a lot of design went into them. I really love the teleport dodge/ attack of the Storm. And the Colsuess shield charge.

I'm having a ton of fun with the game so far. I bought it on PC. The combat is fun and addictive so far. It may not be the greatest game in the world but it is fun and keeps pulling me in. I have a flamethrower and a mortar on my Colossus. Very good fun.

My only minor gripe so far is to echo that regular difficulty with matchmaking is extremely easy so far. I have yet to have anyone in my group die.

Flamethrower and mortar are awesome on the colossus.
Play Private mode on the Normal difficulty. It’s more enjoyable. If your Javelin is over Power Level 100 do Hard mode in co-op. It’s way more enjoyable. And challenging.

Not sure what's going on with people on this. My friend who bought the game was talking to my brother about Anthem on our party. He said the the story isn't very good and that Destiny had a better story. He's literally only played the first mission. So I called him on it but he still insisted that Destiny was better.

The combat mechanics are miles ahead of Destiny for me. I love my mecha combat.

So... I feel confused all the time playing this game. Playing as this storm class. Choose private. I'm either bad as f*** or game doesn't scale difficulty well if playing pure solo, I'm either dying or running away all the time lol.
Also, tried to get back to tarsis hub after a mission of gathering materials in freeplay.... after circling around the tarsis structure for 10 minutes without finding the entrance I was close to hanging this game up, when going into menue showed that I could just fast travel to hub lol.
Also, also, not feeling the combat, don't know how to play this tbh. I'm trying to hover at distance and shot = health goes down in 5 secs. Trying to be mobile on ground and taking cover behind rocks = health goes down in 10 secs. Trying to go in close guns blazing = health goes down within 4 secs.
Maybe playing as a weak supporter class solo is wrong, go figure lol

He should have said Destiny drew him in more.

If you play as Storm you need to hover. You take massively reduced damage when you are hovering. You also need to use Primer and Detonater abilities in your Seals. Prime the enemy. Then detonate. You can get massive kills with the Storm playing it right. Your guns should be secondary to your element primer and detonater. The guns that suit the Storm are the explosive sniper rifle (this is excellent) and an LMG or AR or DMR. Basically you never want to get in the face of the enemy. Always be hovering at range and only land to cool off and pick up ammo/health.

Freeplay can be tough too. There seems to be no way of knowing if you wander into a higher difficulty area. The missions so far are super easy, but freeplay is where I've died a bunch of times.

I play as a Colossus and it seems to be much easier to solo. I don't do as much damage, but I'm a tank and have lots of ways to survive situations. When the poop hits the fan I can just pull out a shield and sprint my way out. Storm is more of the wizard/glass cannon type. The classes seem much more defined than say a game like Destiny where especially early on the class isn't super important.

The nice thing is you can switch classes pretty easily once you level up a bit.

The other thing I find is finding gear with luck on it is big early on. I got something with it and now I'm getting way more greens and some blues already. Level really doesn't matter as much as your gear.

I'm giving up... keep on dying on missions fairly early on. Storm just isn't possible to play with as in solo, too many enemies on you that together deals too much damage. Tried to change class which doesn't seem possible in game, so quit out to main menu which only leads to 2 screens telling me to push A then takes me directly (well, after loading screen...) into game with my storm character. Honestly, this game just feels off in so many ways, if it's purely because the class doesn't work well in solo, that would be okay, but not being able to change class to maybe fix this seems f***ed up?

I’ve soloed the entire game so far with Storm. It’s just a difficult class to play.

You can unlock a 2nd javelin at level 6 I think, it doesn't take long to get a 2nd one open. Join us Colossus players! We're ripped. :)

Honestly, I don't think I've died yet. Maybe once in freeplay.

Yeah I went back to Colossus after getting my storm to 230. Man did it feel good to not be such a dodge pansy again. Just charging right in with a super melee attack and shield bash before opening up with the mini gun and flame thrower. #colossusFTW
