So I bought a new PC. It's great. Runs hardware-taxing games so well, everything is snappy, boot speed is crazy, etc.

Problem is, I have already filled more than 70% of my 1TB hard drive. A few games and torrents, and it's just so easy to fill up the hard disk.
I thought of buying a new 2TB one, but now I am hearing about all these recent talks about how great NASs are. They serve as a small, personal server that can be connected to both your PC and smartphones via router, can be used as a DLNA server, some products support BitTorrent download, etc.
Other than expensive price it all sounds great and all, but I want to hear actual hands-on experience of products. If anybody is using one, please tell for what and how you are using it.

I just started playing around with Xpenology installed on an HP N54L Microserver with about 5 TB of disk and so far, I'm pretty impressed. Xpenology is basically the same software as a typical Synology NAS, but you can install it as a VM or on your own custom hardware. I haven't used it extensively yet, but it is very versatile. You could just buy a Synology NAS if you don't want to deal with a custom build and its various headaches, but I like that I can use my existing hardware and/or put it on VMware ESXi.
