Anyone else use a projector for their video gaming?

I picked up a projector recently and have set up a 100" picture. It is spectacular to play on. Sure, it isn't as clear as my LED, but the size makes up for it. The cinematic experience allowed me to get back into the Ghosts and BF4 campaigns, and I finished both of them within a few days.

Playing games on the big screen is a totally different experience. Agree/disagree?

I've never tried it but I feel a bit hesitant honestly. I feel like something like 100" might even be too big. I guess you have to experience it before you can knock it though.

A few quick shots from my phone(low quality)...

Display: Infocus IN82 dlp projector
Screen: 119" 16:9 da-lite cinema vision
Speakers: 7.1 jbl hti series inwalls
Sub: 2x Elemental Designs A3-300(one just died)
Receiver: pioneer vsx-1018
Sources: ps4, Xbox one, ps3, dish vip622
Device control: Logitech Harmony One

I agree, it's a completely different experience... combined with good surround sound the immersion factor is through the roof.

I have a 50" panny plasma in the bedroom with a ps3 connected that I play on occasion. Even when combined with a decent headset(turtle beach xp400), it's no match for the big screen/sound experience.

There are some trade offs(space/screen requirements, light control, bulb replacements) but I can honestly say it's been one of the best investments I've made for me and my FAMILY... gotta love those movie nights!

BTW, what projector did you get?

I've always found an over-sized screen unecessary. I've tried many sizes and needing to move furniture forward or back generally covers immersion.

I am planning on painting my wall a picture friendly color though.

I'm at 55 inches on my LED right now, and unless I make the jump to 4k, I don't see the point in going bigger.

I actually think sound is going to make the real impact there.

Kudos to you if you like it though. I honestly hope you great gaming! I'm just jealous your wife allowed a whole room just for that!!! :)

You're lucky to have a theater room. I have a cheap Acer 1080p projector, with a DIY screen in a room full of windows. Not ideal conditions, but still amazing. I'd love to set up a home theater room like what you've got one day.

Yes, 106" DYI using Seymour AT material, Mits HC4000 DLP.

There are tradeoffs but I like the big screen and gaming in the comfy chairs. I don't have a KBM set up though so if I want to play something like Civ I have to move to the office. That basically means I only play controller based games.

Used to have a dedicated man cave at the old house, black ceiling, dark blue walls, grey carpet, the whole nine yards, but it was small and didn't get used much by anyone but me. New house has a more family friendly set up but had to lose the dark colors. It's a better looking and more professional install though, and it enabled upgrading to 7.1 so it wasn't a total loss. I'm still by far the main user. ;)

I've never played on a projector before. That must be a sight to see. I'm amazed just going from a 32" screen to a 39" screen haha!

That's a fantastic little projector. One of my good friends has the same display with over 4000 hrs on the original bulb. Brightness is still over 16ftl on his 110" Stewart Firehawk g3. To top it off it has very low input lag...great for gaming.

Any pics of your AT screen and front speaker config?

I've not been as lucky with my bulbs. For movie watching I insist on accurate colors and greyscale so I can't use the brightest setting. I think I was at <10 ftL at 1200 hours and it was starting to bother me. So I got another bulb to get me back to 14-15ftL but I think I got a knockoff because it was a lot harder to calibrate.

Anyway, for gaming I don't care as much and just run the brightest setting.

I don't have a high-end AT setup with a stage or anything like that. I have cheapo monoprice in walls and wanted the center behind the screen and the Seymour AT was reasonably priced I thought. I don't have any pics handy but if I remember this weekend I'll try and dig some up.
