Aquaman

Looks so good, yeah the sharks look fake in the aquarium scene and some of the other effects look early but overall I'm loving the visual style.

Some info on what was shown at the panel, some if it is spoilery so don't read it if you don't want to know.

Here's a rough breakdown of what that extra Aquaman footage revealed:

  • Shot of a lighthouse in a snowglobe...Atlanna and Tom Curry falling in love and having Arthur. Kidman goes back into the sea after he’s born. "You are the bridge between land and sea."
  • Adult Arthur and his dad in a bar talking about his special nature.
  • Grown Aquaman, goes to a sub, Mera telling him to take his place as king
  • Plane flying over the desert. Aquaman and Mera looking for lost Atlanteans
  • They find a cave, a gear, Aquaman puts something into it and nothing happens. (in the Sahara)
  • Mera summons Aquaman’s sweat because water is needed as a catalyst.
  • Gears start moving, he jokes you could have just peed on it.
  • A hologram appears, describes the power of Atlantis in the trident. The first king of Atlantis. Reminiscent of Superman at the Fortress of Solitude having Kryptonian history explained to him. The Atlantean king explains the power of the Trident.
  • Battle between Orrn and Aquaman...the king hologram believes the Trident will unite the kingdoms.
  • Orrn wants Atlantis to rise to power. Black Manta and his goons show up, prompting a really cool chase scene, long tracking shots, Mera and Aquaman running away from Black Manta and his henchmen
  • Some action of Nicole Kidman fighting inside what appears to be the lighthouse home. She's in human clothing.
  • Shot of Aquaman in the classic Aquaman suit

I figured out what it is I'm not liking about the shark in that aquarium scene, it's moving it's body way too much yet it's just staying in one place. They need to slow that down a bit and it'll look more natural. For as much green screen work as this movie is using most of it looks really good, the part where he and Mera are talking about how he's worthy doesn't blend well though and there is one quick clip where he's swimming with someone else (It may be him when he was younger) that looks fake but overall they've done a great job and still have time. It already looks miles ahead of most of Justice League and Wonder Woman's visual effects.

Also how bad ass does Black Manta look? it's crazy how they made that costume look as good as it does in real life.

The scene is running faster in the trailer due to time. Same with a few scenes

Interested to see how they use Ocean master as the guys a legit threat to even Superman.

Hopefully that's it, it just seems like the whole body is moving a lot for the shark to just be sitting in one place, when the shot backs off and you see all of the fish etc moving slowly it looks much better.

I think I've watched this trailer about 10 times today lol, I'm really loving what they've done. I had a picture in my head as a kid very similar to what they are doing with that shot of the sharks with riders on one side and the sea dragons on the other (as well as the battle shown later) only for me it was different types of sharks with armor and weapons attached on one side and killer whales, dolphins and a few other types of sea mammals also decked out with armor and riders on the other only they all had sort of built in flattened oxygen tanks hooked to the saddles that had tubes leading to small domes covering their blowholes. I know it sounds nerdy as hell lol but it's so cool seeing something resembling that scene I pictured in my head as a kid in a major movie.

I dislike how they are standing at the bottom of that arena and fighting like they are land or something. Why wouldn't they have a totally different way of fighting underwater?

It's basically land to them. They get weaker further from the sea

This movie looks really meh, to me. DC should just stop and reboot, IMO. Wonder Woman was the exception, but it's just a lost cause now.

Jason Momoa would have been a great Lobo, but I'm still just not buying him in this role. Maybe it's a good story, but I just see a bunch of nonsensical action pieces like Justice League. I didn't hate that movie, but I didn't love it either. Just kinda soulless. It just isn't the DC universe that I want, or I think it deserves. If this gets some believably good reviews, I'll see it. The trailer has not sold me, though.

I'm still trying to figure out how they made metal armor under water ....

He would have been a great Lobo but he's still a great Aquaman IMO, they needed someone like him to make the character cool, a cookie cutter blonde guy wasn't going to cut it IMO.

As for DC needing a reboot, I think they have had a few missteps that have cost them dearly, they need to make a few casting changes but I think a total reboot is unnecessary. If I were DC I'd do my best to keep Ben Affleck on as Batman through a few more movies, he's the best Bruce Wayne we've had in a live action film, I'd also keep Momoa as Aquaman, Fisher as Cyborg, Adams as Lois Lane and Irons as Alfred. I'm indifferent on Gadot as Wonder Woman, she's ok but she's not an amazing actress, I'd replace Cavill as Superman, he's not awful but I think there are a lot of guys out there who could do it better. I'd also replace Miller as the Flash, he's a likeable guy and a good actor but he just doesn't fit the part IMO (maybe it was the poorly written jokes that throw me off) and Eisenberg needs to be replaced ASAP as Lex, he's just terrible.

Batman v Superman wasn't bad but a few things that could have been done better would
1) The Doomsday design and CGI
2) Different actor to play Lex Luthor
3) Of course the easiest and cheapest correction would have been to change a single line from "He's going to kill Martha" to "He's going to kill my Mother" That would have made a huge difference. It would have had the same impact on Batman and it wouldn't have come across as trying so hard.

Wonder Woman is highly overrated IMO, it's not bad at all, it's a good movie but it's not this amazing life changing cinematic experience that so many made it out to be. The special effects were also pretty poor in a lot of it, nothing on the island looked real.

Justice League is pretty bad, poorly done story, very uneven visual presentation and some of the worst CGI effects I've seen in a major movie in a long time. There were some cool individual moments but it just wasn't a good movie.

I think both Aquaman and Shazam look really good and like they'll be very entertaining in very different ways.

This is pretty freaking funny, ah the memories of being a kid and watching that cartoon.
