Ashen

I started it earlier and played like 2 hours. Not really seeing what folk are raving about. Combat was simple and rather dull. Got an A. I companion that doesh't seem needed. Enemies were easy to beat. The first boss was a let down.

People compare it to dark souls, but from what I played it is more like Fable without the humour.

It has a lot of dark souls style mechanics in it . You have stamina based combat, loss of XP on death, refillable health flask, shrine based checkpoints etc. it’s definitely easier to play but it does get far more challenging as you progress through the world. I’ve died more in this than I have in a play through of a DS game.

Played an hour... I'm definitely not getting it.
I don't like the graphic style, the combat, the setting, the controls and I thought it would be a moody kind of game but it just feels shallow. I don't know, maybe I was expecting soulsborney kind of game that you just keep playing even though you get punished a lot, but after dying a second time I deleted the game.
Maybe I should've giving it some more time but my gaming time is very precious with family and all.

Just finished it. That last boss is a serious jump in difficulty in the second stage. I really enjoyed it from the start right to the end. I loved the different level designs, the use of darkness, especially in the Maw area. The bosses were fun... nothing to original but will suited to the game. The combat was tight and precise which is so very important in a stamina based combat game.

Things they could improve on if they go for a sequel:

- needs more weapon types. Clubs and axes are fine but they needed some more weapons to mix it up.
- loot. There is none save some armor peices and clubs & axes. Crafting materials don't count. So yeah, there was non exist loot which lowers reply value.
- trading. very few items to buy and you can't sell anything so yeah, it needs some kind of proper trading mechanic.
- crafting. Limited to melee weapon upgrades. Not the worse system but could be fleshed out to include armor, shields & spears.

Overall it's a solid 8.5/10 for me.

Who could blame you for expecting that, when all people do is compare it to Darksouls.

Darksouls this game isn't.

Question to all you have endured this for many hours: Do the fetch quests ever stop?

Do you mean complete the task and return to the camp? No, they are all like that. But with fast travel it's not really a big deal. I won't quite call them fetch quests either. You complete each one to push the game along and then when you are ready you return to the base to begin the next sequence. All the quests move along with each area so you can literally complete all side quests in an area without returning to the camp.

Well this is getting uninstalled. Don't like fetch quests.

I am stuck in a area where I am suppose to find this man tool and it shows on the map but I'm stuck because the roads ends on a big bolder and blocks the path.

Anyone knows?

You need to use the spears to dark travel. you throw them at the statues with the red candles.

You also need to have done a dungeon, that is cool and annoyingly hard at the same time lol...I enjoyed my time with this but I will not finish it...I am in the Gnaw part now, just after the Spear thing and my god,its frustration section.Since it's very vertical and confusing, you lose the AI companion a lot,you need the stupid lantern and yeah, cant pass this part lol...oh well.

Yeah the Gnaw is hard but once you figure out the path through it, it’s really handy to beat. Four spear throws will get you to where you need to go. That’s also the second last area so you’re close to the end.
