Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will be set primarily on and around the islands of the Caribbean during the early 18th century.

The game will be played in three cities: Havana, Kingston and Nassau, each under the rule of the Spanish, British and pirate empires respectively. There will also be over 50 other interesting locations to explore, along with a significant (40%) amount of sea adventure.

Assassin's Creed IV will have a more open world feel and the world opens up sooner in the game, as opposed to previous Assassin's Creed titles. All of the various settings and encounters, whether it be jungle encounters, fort infiltration, ruin exploration, or just enjoying a round of rum with your pirate buddies in town, the player will have much more freedom. On land and sea you will be able to interact with NPC's and the environment, engaging in conversation, hunting wild animals (land or sea), boarding ships, exploring the sea from a captains chair or below the waves.

At sea, you will captain the Jackdraw, an upgradable ship. From here you can best plan out your next course of action using the spyglass, recruiting crew, and pillaging other ships. Action at sea makes up about 40% of the game, including main story and many side missions.

There will also be around 90 additional minutes of gameplay on Sony platforms.

Players with have several options at their disposal when engaging enemy ships. Assassinate the captain, board with your crew and swashbuckler your way to victory, or simply blast the ship to pieces from afar. Talking the ship and crew intact is beneficial however, as you can gain cargo and new crew members.

You will also be able to exploit weather conditions such as dynamic storms, to gain and edge on your opponent.

Players will also be able to upgrade the Jackdaw through pillaging with new weapons and abilities.

*I'll try to add to this when I have more time (and maybe re-size some images). Crazy that an AC game has me most excited for next gen, but it's pirates!

Will pre-order content eventually be made available for all people? I can't buy five copies of the same game just to get the best experience.

Don't have a good answer for you on that, but my guess would be eventually through U-Play some of these will be available. Also, Sony platforms are to get an additional 90 minutes of content.

Looks really cool, the first Assassins Creed that I'd actually play. I cant temember the last good pirate game on consoles...

Can't wait for this one. Have played and beat every Assassin's Creed game and enjoyed each one. I don't see this being any different.

I haven't played since brotherhood which I wasn't crazy about, but I'm loving what I see here. I'll admit that the pirate theme is what has got me the most excited.

Nice job with the thread. I'm planning on this day 1 with PS4. I really enjoyed 1-Brotherhood, but got burned out with Revelations. Haven't touched 3 yet. Regardless, this looks like it should have a lot of gameplay. And pirates!

Day one. But I'm not falling for that Season Pass trick again. They pre-sell you on a few neat items they give you now, and then deliver several (s***ty) content packs later.

Ubisoft claims AC definitely has an end, but, if it keeps selling very well why would they ever stop making them?

It doesn't matter if Desmond's story ends, in my opinion. In fact, they should just get it out of the way. It's a distraction, because unless they go dick deep for a full on future assassin's game, then it's all rather pointless. Ubisoft can totally make these games minus the sci-fi attachment and I would encourage them to do so. The type of games they've made would never have come to fruition on it's own merits. Especially the Ezio trilogy. Open world games in Italy just didn't happen before AC came around.

Obviously, that's when it ends. When Assassin's Creed stops pulling in boatloads of cash, then they'll spend 10 minutes slapping together a silly ending and put the series to bed.

Game looks pretty awesome, but boy does some of that platforming look iffy. Especially the bit with the tree toward the beginning of the video.

Hunting is back? FFFFFUUUUUUUU

Can't you like hunt sharks and whales though? That might be pretty cool, but yeah I didn't like hunting at all. I barely did it.

This is some inserts from the first review of the game from a european mag....the link to the main site is dead and I'm not linking the forum I got this from so take it for what it is.

AC4 received 18/20.
4/5 For Gameplay
4/5 For the gaphics
5/5 for the soundtrack
5/5 for the length of the game
---------------
Positive aspects of the game:
-Wonderful world / map
-A lot of things to do
-Stealth works very well, you can chose how to approach your taget, etc..
Negatives aspects of the game!
- Technical problems
- lose of frame rate on PS3
- aliasing on PS4
(I guess they played the game on PS3 & PS4 because there are nothing about Xbox)
-------------
Other things you shloud know:
-Cities are better than AC3 (for free running)
-This is A TRUE AC GAME, and the most accomplished of the franchise.
-Combats are slower than AC3...
-...There are less weapons, less new types of ennemies...
-... But naval battles are amazing !
-You'll play as Edward like 10 minutes after launching the game on your console
-Naval is amazing
-Economic system of AC4 is easier to understand and really well made (you board ships, and sell ressources)
-You'll need to upgrade your ship to succes on seas. To upgrade your ship you'll need ressources. You can get them by boarding ships.
-Taking forts have an impact on Edward's progression. It will reveal the location of special places such as caves.
-In all main or secondary missions you can play stealthy if you chose to.
-The involvement of Edward in the Templar-Assassin conflict is a bit predictable but still well done by Darby. You'll see a lot of history events.
About PS4 version:
-Beautiful, fluid, ... BUT there are aliasing on some textures.
About PS3 version:
-Almost like PS4 even if textures are kind of blurred.. The only thing is that there are loss of framerates.
TO CONCLUDE: AC4 is the most successful game of the franchise. Better mechanics of gameplay, better level design, the game is a real success.
You'll need about 20 hours to complete the main path and 50 hours to complete everything.

So a 90. I expect that'll be about average. I'm in!

The shark hunting and whatnot I'm willing to give a try. I just didn't like the hunting in ACIII at all. It was so tedious, and they had to go and hide upgrades behind it. Whenever developers do that, it feels like they're artificially increasing the length of the game. When taking into account how long a game is, I don't like to include the boring crap that no one wants to actually do.

I enjoyed it in FC3, but yeah, doesn't look great in this. Still, seems mostly optional as most upgrades won't make that much difference.

Far Cry, I enjoyed everything. That one was awesome from start to finish. I played through FC3 on the 360, and I liked it so much that I even considered buying it a second time once PS3 became my preferred platform. XD

I was talking specifically about hunting in the AC series, which I don't find remotely enjoyable.
