Assassin's Creed Odyssey

FYI, at least on my TV (Samsung KS8000) I’ve recently discovered game looks way more colorful with HDR off. Not sure what’s causing that or if it’s bad implementation but you may want to test it out on your tv.

It's the opposite on my TV. The only game that I've disabled HDR to get the better color was on RDR2. I'm playing on the Pro, so that might be a difference for this game at least.

I dont have Oddessy, but Origins had great HDR.

Yeah Origins is the game that sold me on HDR in games, this one looks washed out though. I’ll tinker with some of the games settings I guess.

I’m not messing with TV settings because movies look amazing.

Was probably easier to control it with Origins because they really didn't have much variety in the environments or weather.

Started playing this on PC with google's project stream. Really enjoying it for the most part, although I'm iffy on an AC game having this much RPG elements. Did just kill a much stronger guy than me by pot shotting him with arrows. Horseback is fun, and the greek setting is pretty fantastic so far. Gorgeous game, and project stream runs it surprisingly well, although my connection isn't always the best, it hasn't affected my ability to play games in the slightest.

Yeah, maybe that’s it. Tried fiddling with settings last night but gave up. Having HDR off is the way to go for me

This won't be a popular video over at Ree, but I liked it. It makes the point.

His comments on the homosexuality in the game are a bit much, there was only one character I can remember who seemed to just be bi sexual, the player had the option of getting with men or women but he makes it sounds like there was a lot of focus on homosexuality and there really wasn't, maybe if you aren't used to it the little bit that's there seems like more than it actually was but it was hardly a focus of the game.

Yeah, I didn't notice anything awry with their portrayal of gay people. Now that I think about it, if they had accurately represented some of the actual forms of Greco-Roman homosexuality (e.g., little boys as basically sex slaves of older men), that would have upset some people.

I was focused more on his points about the way the game portrays women.

Still addicted to this game. Level 49, haven’t gotten around to finishing the story, but having a blast. Didn’t know I’d love this setting so much.

The new update is great, loving being able to customize the armor instead of having to choose between looks and stats.

I'm glad they raised the level cap, I still haven't been through all of the map yet lol. I'll be getting back to it soon though, had to take a break to go through Red Dead 2.

Me neither! It wasn’t until level 48 that I found the arena lol. So much to do I’m really shocked that people feel the need to buy the XP booster.

I’m also surprised that a lot of the cool content is outside of the main story missions. It would be a shame to rush through and miss out on stuff like the arena, the mythical creatures, and the daughters of Artemis.

Need to get back into it, I haven't even gone past the first island yet, but it's just so much fun going completing location objectives and doing side quests.

Still tied GOTY for me, great game.

Yep it’s my game of the year by a mile. I don’t know if the game is that good or if it just clicked with me personally, but I’ve put in probably close to 100 hours, just now finished the main story, and still had to tear myself away so I could go to bed lol.

Been a long time since a game had me this hooked!

The game director is surprised that two thirds of the audience chose to play as the male character? WTF?!?! Most players are going to be male and most men would rather play as a male character.

Phillips notes that although the split ended up being "two third Alexios" and "one third Kassandra," that number actually "surprised" him. He clarifies that during play tests the split was roughly 50/50, and that in the end he even though that there would be "a little bit more Kassandra." Phillips shares that beyond that initial dichotomy, all of the rest of the player choices surprised the team.

Banned. Misogynistic commentary. lol

I agree that expecting 50/50 is unrealistic, but I guess that's how it broke out in the playtesting, earlier.

A third is better than the 18% Fem Shep got. I can think of a few factors that might've contributed to the increase:

- This game might've attracted more female buyers than Mass Effect did. AC in Greece might appeal to women more than a science fiction shooter.
- Ubi marketed Cassandra more heavily than most similar games do. They seemed pretty invested in her, as a character.
- Game journalists seem to prefer Cassandra, because of her voice acting (and maybe because of the agenda).
- Cassandra was "canon."
- Changing times. It's been a decade or so since ME. Maybe more men are comfortable playing as female character than they were back then, I dunno.

I keep hearing that Cassandra has the better voice acting, so she probably is the better choice. I picked Alexios and only played for a dozen hours, but his voice acting didn't really do it for me. He sounded detached somehow.

If I go back for another run sometime, I'll try Cassandra. Voice acting makes a big difference in my ability to connect with a character and have him/her feel "real."

He sounds like a guy doing an accent for most of it, when it comes to the really dramatic stuff he does a great job but overall it just sounds like a guy faking it. From what I've heard of hers it's basically the same situation, she sounds very over the top and cartoonish in everything I've seen of her story.

Yeah any time they demoed the game she was who they showed off, Alexios was in the initial marketing materials sent out and some people made a stink about that. I like that they gave us the option, being that the story was pretty easy to make interchangeable it didn't hurt it at all.

Well...
I never play as women in games if there's a male choice, never played as femshep and never felt the urge too. I'm a man, I feel like a man and associate with men. But.... hearing how much better kassandra was I got interested so I watched a few cutscene videos and alexios voice acting is bad, really bad. Kassandra is pretty great and although she's no Bayek, she's definitely one of the better main characters in the series. So I played as her, it's fine but I've rather play as a man, in this case though, I couldn't stand alexios voice acting. Honestly, if they said it was a 50/50 split, I wouldn't have thought anything of it. I felt they marketed her more/better than alexios and I would've thought that swayed people to choose her idk

I think they need a director who actually casts the right people for the parts and really goes for a realistic approach with their acting. The guy who played Alexios did a great job in the more dramatic parts of the game but the stuff that wasn't asking for emotion sounded fake, as I said before I thought her acting sounded really fake as well from the stuff I've heard of her so I blame that more on the director than anything else.

I played Cassandra all the way. She’s my butch womanizer, man-eating, goat f***ing, party animal! She can’t kill it or screw it, she’s not interested in it.

Started this today, pretty much done with the initial island. I'm enjoying it. Good couple weeks of gaming for me, between Ori, Hellblade and now this.

I finally got back to playing it last night, I finished the main story back in October but I still have a good 25%-30% of the map to explore.

With the game getting a super duper easy mode, I decided to go back to it. I'm nowhere near the end and it started to become a chore to play the game. Finally made some decent progress but it still feels like there's just too much work to do (side quests and such) just to progress the main story.

Imo doesn't need an easy mode, game isn't hard if you stick to same leveled enemies. It does take a lot of time to get through though.
GOTY 2018 tied with RDR2 for me. Origins was better, mostly because of bayek and the setting.
