I think being able to adjust the guns on the fly is one of the cooler features of the game. Realistic? Naw, but fun. In BF there's always a mix of long range and CQB fights. I find myself flipping scopes all the time depending on the situation and I think it is one of those neat little additions they don't get enough credit for.

Even if I have a shorter range gun, I can pop up a scope and do some spotting and see what's going on.

Just played my first conquest. Pretty fun. Noticed some performance/stutter dips even though my FPS is around 80-90fps, weird.

Lots to learn still.

Game has been unplayable since Friday. Either I can't get into a match or if I do it's nothing but rubber banding and zero hit detection. Another horrendous BF launch, who'd a thunk.

Played some more and had more fun, I think there's something wrong with the portal servers as most ones I tried were getting random rubber banding issues (like BF4 launch) that I wasn't getting on AOW servers.

Was having fun playing on the hardcore servers, seemed much more believable if I died randomly but was getting heaps more kills too. Playing rush on noshar and Caspian brought back great memories.

Also what's up with the total lack of options, it was like this on BF5 as well, I remember BF4 you could set HUD opacity and size and everything, you literally can't do anything here except turn off the HUD which also unfortunately turns off player icons so you don't really know who anyone is.

Am I blind or is there no way to tell what fire rate you have it set to? I don't see anything in the UI change when I switch rate.

I've come to the conclusion that assault rifles are just bad in this game (at least the first two). Tons of recoil and really slow to kill. SMGs and LMGs have almost zero recoil.

Saw this posted on Steam forums.

Original BC2 and BC2 Portal weapon spread, I thought I was the only one.
Yeah they added bloom to everything and it is pretty noticeable. That's why the time to kill feels so off, and of course why a little recoil is even that much worse.

I'm guessing this is their bad idea to try and balance mouse and controller. No matter how accurate someone is, you're going to have a hard time hitting targets at range.

f*** man, there's the reason why the shooting feels like s*** and like bullets are going through people lol.

Of course I see this now after I've been trying to upgrade my assault rifles for the 6-7 hours I've played 🥲

At least I have 3 hours to do SMG now.

I'm sure they'll get buffed. Developers have been quiet on a patch but they have to balance this nonsense at some point.

Was listening to a podcast the other day and they said that bloom on guns is also in COD now. Guess like you said trying to make it harder for people with precision aim.

Yes, they added it into COD too.

I think they are definitely using it to help "balance" mouse and controller. Game devs all over seem determined to ignore the issues with not input matching. It is pretty clear that it is impossible to really balance, and doing stuff like this just frustrates people. PC players gripe about aim assist, and controller players gripe about getting mapped by more accurate tracking.

Bloom is also meant to help balance things like SMGs which always seem to be too powerful outside their intended range. In COD especially, lots of players just always use SMGs and they never seem to have drawbacks.

The problem is that they seem to all ignore the fact that recoil exists and can be a non-frustrating way to handle this. BF is going the COD route, where some guns have a ton of recoil and others have none. LMGs have zero recoil, but tons of bloom in BF. Why not just use recoil? Assault rifles kick all over and are mostly useless because of it, while SMGs have none.

The low recoil guns always end up being meta in any game, because why should you learn to manage recoil when you can just use the gun that doesn't have it? I don't think burst firing is that hard of a concept for the average gamer to learn, but game developers seem afraid of it.

My #1 issue with bloom in BF is it makes going head to head against a sniper almost impossible. You can see that glint and there's no point trying to get a shot off first. You just have to hide. The chances of enough of your RNG bullets hitting that sniper are just low.

The PP 2000 is beginning to be the most used weapon. No weapon bloom, no recoil and it's crazy accurate at close and mid range on full auto. I was playing in a custom BF3 server and I was just mowing down people. I only died a few times. It's almost like cheating. They need to balance the s*** out of this game.

And yes, snipers are deadly. In rush mode it is nearly impossible to kill one when they are safely hiding behind spawn.

Edit: The bullet spread seems to happen on all weapons randomly, not sure about snipers. I was playing with a PP2000 and the spread was crazy unlike last night when it was accurate.

nearly up on my 10 hours and cant really think of how much of that was fun....

i feel like i am constantly coming back, hoping it will be as fun as other BF games but it just isnt. server issues and bugs like not being able to select weapons/equipment just adds to the frustration

so far i dont think 128 players work for Conquest, as the maps have to be way too big and there is not enough action if you cant spawn on 1 or 2 of the active flags... i think maybe increasing squad size to 6-8 would actually help, giving you more spawn spots... also spawning on a flag usually ends with you being spawned in the wide open where you have no choice but to run in the open towards the objective YOU KNOW has enemies looking out for you lol so stupid

worst part is that the gun play is just not fun, i could pop on BF4 right now and have a blast, with this game i feel like i cant hit anything thats moving... that might be the server issues or the bugs people have mentioned with assault rifles or i am just really bad in this specific BF cause maybe they changed aim assist and i am not used to it

Definitely try breakthrough over conquest. I always loved the mode, but it doesn't work well on the big maps. Breakthrough plays a lot better.

I still haven't played any of the free trial. Seeing everyone's disappointment and frustration, both here and in the BF Youtube community, I may wait for 6 months to a year for patches and balancing like I did with BF5. Would be nice if Dice could release a game that people like at launch again and not have to spend a year or more of tweakng before it's in a good place, it's been a while.

To be fair too, I think people are confusing technical issues with gameplay issues. The game has been super stable for me on XSX (seems like issues are mostly on PC). Servers were borked I think it was Friday night and that was fixed by Saturday. I was playing constantly all weekend ever since. I had one crash to desktop (in comparison, I got a lot more CTDs during CODs launch). The narrative of this being a bug ridden game might be exaggerated by people with an agenda. Maybe it really is that bad on PC, but I kind of doubt it. There's been some rubberbanding (I experienced it a handful of times), but they've already found that and disabled the thing causing it.

From a technical standpoint, this launch and BF V were actually quite smooth.

Now, on the gameplay side, there's some issues. Weapon balance is atrocious. That's not going to take 6 months to fix though. The bloom is annoying but can easily be tweaked. I can live with it if they don't. Leaving off the scoreboard is comical but again will be fixed soon.

Try the trial for yourself and ignore the masses. There's lots of people who have an ax to grind. You can actually find a lot of people who are just reiterating technical problems from the open beta that were fixed at launch. These same people are the ones who had a nuclear meltdown over BF V and now are saying that was the best game ever. Who were the same people who did the same thing with BF1. Funny how that's a classic BF game now.
