My tinfoil hat theory is that they wanted to hide just how badly PC players were dominating console players with crossplay. BF games have always had some pretty crazy scores, and I think with crossplay on it only got worse. There's no way to know though. Not to mention PC cheaters.
At least in BF V if I got wrecked on console, I knew it was from other controller players and few cheaters (just people with those mouse and kb adapters).
This whole concept of turning on crossplay and throwing controller players into PC lobbies (with broken aim assist no less) is just a joke.
Sadly, it is wise to wait. A month wait for this limited patch is a very bad sign. It may still turn around by summer with more content, but I'm really skeptical. Not even any real fixes or balance updates? I get they weren't going to overhaul the game in a month, but we're got a work in progress scoreboard and nothing else?
I bet they dump it on Game Pass as soon as a season with new content starts. That's the only way they get people back in the game.
And Dice are already f***ing up.... "and for the changes themselves during Season 2."
There's a 10 hr trial when it first came out for GP users. Not sure if it's still there if you didn't try it out then.
They'll have to do something to get players back at this point. If not f2p, just sell the game super cheap and/or put it on Game Pass.
Call me crazy though, I think this game can bounce back. The base game was still lots of fun, and I think fixing the maps and modes will do a ton to fix the "it isn't BF" feel to the game.

They need this game fixed and in good shape before season 1 launches (which isn't happening by the sound of it) and then put it in EA Play to drive numbers up and increase word of mouth.
It sounds like the 1st patch hits early April with some bugfixes and minor changes, but I think the big stuff like map changes is hitting with the season sometime in "early summer".

Perhaps the 2042 date in the game's title was actually Dice giving us a heads up as to when it will be fixed.
If you ever needed proof that this game was rushed, well, these patch notes are it. lol.
Someone joked on twitter that it is good to see the game hitting open beta now.
I'm still holding out hope they can make this game fun. I think there's part of a fun game in there. I actually enjoyed playing it in spite of the faults. We'll see what the May patch holds. I assume May is the first season as well.
It will come down to the map changes. The current maps are just bad.
I think they did that on PC, but I don't think on console.
I haven't tried the patch yet, forgot to leave my Xbox in low power mode all day to download the big patch.
Game is a bit better, but still has a long way to go. I played a few matches last night and it only reminded me how much I hated the end of the round, cringy lines from the specialists.
