The BC games seemed to have more soul, imo. The characters were memorable, it had that military tone, but funny and irreverent. BC2 lost it somewhat, but they made up for it with great campaigns all over the world. The destruction was awesome (collapsing 2 story buildings, or having entire maps leveled by the end which did have it's ups and downs). They felt different than the main game despite sharing some core similarities.

Definitely not the same as mainline BF, despite those games getting campaign modes. Much of it had to do with tone, but these days, that's pretty substantial, imo. It didn't take itself as seriously. I still can't remember getting those same "Battlefield Moments" from mainline games.

I also loved that the m203 was nearly standard. Only game I would actively chose smoke grenades to create screens for my teammates.

I freaking would laugh my ass off when you sneak up on a sniper in a building and place c4 on all the walls and bring down the building on them. Sooo good.

BC2 in WW2.

I want BC2 could care less about the WW2 setting but if it pleases the fan-kids why not have the best of both worlds.
Why not? It could be some squad goes AWOL after DDay or something. Doesn't have to be the same guys, just same core idea in different settings. Sounds good to me!

The team at DICE is working on the standalone Battlefield V update releasing this summer, and continuing their work on delivering Community Games. While the studio’s vision for Star Wars Battlefront II is now complete with this week’s The Battle on Scarif Update, the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events and game support will continue as the game lives on with players and the community. We’re looking forward to hearing players’ stories for both games, for years to come. Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we’ll be bringing to players in 2021.

And it's likely to be modern warfare.

I want Bad Company 3 or Battlefield 2: Modern Combat 2 with a remaster Bridge Too Far map. :bang:

It makes sense, they are basically done with BF V and BF2. The summer update for BF V is tiny. So they are pulling all teams to work on this new game.

I can only hope they learned some lessons from BF V. Don't pretend to make a live service game but fail to pump out content.

It’s time to go modern again. Excited for this, but I’m wondering what type of changes they are going to make.

We should see a trailer in the next 2 months, hopefully.

They should remaster some old favorite maps and rotate them in, I'm talking maps from bc2, BF3 and BF4. I like new maps, but instead of been painfully dripfed them it would be nice to drop more maps a mix of old and new more frequently.

Did V flop?

It didn't do well. A lot of people are turned off by WW2, but more importantly they made a ton of mistakes with this. You think WW2, you think of the epic battles, but instead they just had the UK and Germany at first. It was supposed to have a lot of updates, so everyone assumed they'd get to the rest soon enough.

Instead the content came out in tiny drips and tons and tons of bugs.

They came out with the Pacific free expansion and there was hope. They added some great maps and the US and Japan. Things were looking up, when they decided to severely change the game to make the time to kill extremely long and noob friendly (BF is already a game with a longer TTK). They reduced the range of most guns so that rifles were useless. That just killed the game for most.

It could have been good, but there were just so many problems. Tons of major bugs all throughout.

I’ve always enjoyed the series. Recently I loved BF1 put a lot of time into it. Was excited for BFV going to WW2 game was decent, just didn’t keep me playing. Was my least played BF ever.

Hopefully the next BF brings the series back to what makes BF great.

I still think I disliked BF1 more, but it would be interesting to see which I actually played more. I tried to love BF V but it just didn't happen.

Hopefully switching to modern will fix some of these time to kill problems they had. They made a WW1 and then 2 game, but yet rifles never felt right in them. The game seemed to push you to the smg and full auto options anyway (which if that's the gameplay you want, stop picking WW1 or 2) :)

They moved away from skill and tried to cater to the noobs (who didn't seem to like the game much anyway). At one point in BF V it got so bad that you couldn't kill people beyond like 10-15 meters. I remember going like 30-5 in a game and it wasn't even fun.

I really disliked BF 1 the TTK is terrible compared to 5.

Yeah I remember BF1 being a lot worse, although another bad thing in BF1 was the magic health packs that you could set down and basically keep your entire team alive forever.

I never got in to BF5 because I didn't like how BF1 played. Something has just felt off with the series since they started making Battlefront.

I put thousands of hours into battlefield between Modern Combat 2 on 360 up to BF4 earlier this generation. BFBC 2 is still my favorite though. The destruction and the audio effects of that game were amazing.

I look forward to seeing another modern setting, but I worry about the gameplay itself.

I played BF5 at release using Origin Premiere which I'm glad for because it was complete trash. Then comes along the Pacific update and it seems they were making big changes to the game. I ended up buying it on Xbox and really enjoyed it for the couple weeks before they screwed the game again at the end of last year. And now to find out we're not even going to get the Eastern front, or D-Day, or any other huge locations of WW2 is a joke. No way I'll be buying the next game. They're going to have to show me a reason to buy it and not just off the name alone.

I never understood trying to mess with the TTK, look at COD the most popular and successful FPS franchise and you pretty much get dropped instantly, yet people still love it.

I've only kept playing the game because it's still the most chaotic fun to have on a MP shooter, and the visuals and sound are top notch, but I haven't fired it up in a week and don't know when I will again.
