Battlefield: Bad Company franchise will make a comeback, says director

A third installment in the Battlefield: Bad Company franchise will happen, creative director Lars Gustavsson told reporters at a Battlefield 4 event, clarifying that it won't happen immediately because of the recent spate of newly announced Electronic Arts DICE-developed titles.

"My feeling is that I would love to do it. For me, when we started the company with 1942, it was really a work of passion," Gustavsson said. "And then we worked our way through the era of different wars, and I loved them all, like my little babies. When it came to Bad Company, it was creative freedom; don't take yourself too seriously.

"So I love it. I want to see it again. Whether it can happen
now with the newly announced Mirrors Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront... but we'll see," he said, referring to the new DICE-developed Mirror's Edge 2 and Star Wars: Battlefronttitles that were announced for next-generation consoles during EA's E3 2013 press conference in June.

"But trust me, the Bad Company [team] isn't forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation," he continued. "So they are out there, they're coming back."

In August, Frank Gibeau, president of EA Labels said that EA will rotate between three main shooter franchises going forward: Battlefield, Titanfall and Battlefront. The publisher's former strategy of alternating between the Battlefield and Medal of Honor series included Bad Company titles.

Developed by EA DICE for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the jocular Battlefield offshoot series was first published in 2008. Its sequel, Bad Company 2, saw a release in 2010 followed by the Bad Company 2: Vietnam expansion pack that same year.

I thought the BC story as okay, I preferred the open-sandbox style approach to the missions but the multiplayer was so far from Battlefield 2, it wasn't until BF3 that they finally brought a core BF game to the consoles, multiplayer-wise.

I wouldn't mind another Bad Company as long as the core game they're up to now with BF4 stays the same in multiplayer or is expanded upon.

I have a feeling that they will do the same with this franchise as Activision did with CoD. They will switch off everey other year....like next year will be bad company...the following BF5 and so on just like with black ops and modern warfare.

I'm not a fan of the Bad Company/BF SP campaigns, however, I do love the MP side of them. My friends and I had so much fun with the first BC MP, plus the destruction in the BC games was unparalleled. I loved the fact that you basically raze the whole battlefield. I wouldn't be opposed to a COD style approach, BC/BF every other year.

There is still nothing like the fun of that first Bad Company game. Bad Company 2 was great too. My regret is I didn't play them as much as I should have.

Eff Bad Company, just give me Battlefront and I'll be happy.

I am glad they said this. I have enjoyed Bad Company much more than I did Battlefield. Though Battlefield 2 Modern Combat is still my all time favorite.
