Best movies from the past 6 years?

Tucker & Dale vs Evil was pretty awesome.

Yuck, MIB 3, really.....IMO it sucks, big time.

Expendables isn't that great either. I enjoyed those movies more for Nostalgia reasons than quality reasons. If you want Solid action flicks, Dredd( which you have) and the Raid( subtitled) are great choices. If you're in to Subtitled martial art movies then check out Ip Man too. Ip Man for me is the best best Martial arts film since Enter the dragon.
I have a ton of martial arts movies and probably know those quite well. I saw IP man but didn't see the ones after that haha.

I'd also suggest A man From Nowhere if you like revenge movies (Guess it's not revenge but he's going to get the girl back). Has a really nice fight scene at the end. (korean)

Sure some of you already saw it though. As I watch more films that I plan on getting from the koreans and japanese markets, I'll have a few more to talk about. About to order some soon actually.'
Most of Chow Yun Fat movies are worth watching in my opinion. Also enjoyed all about ah long, fairly old film where he is with his son and a ex race driver. Ending is pretty ballsy, crazy .... or some may think bad.

Don't bother with Ip man 2. I found that one to be pretty poor.

I have seen A Man From Nowhere and honestly didnt like it to much. If you want a proper Korean Revenge flick then check out I saw The Devil. I saw the Devil is brutal and simple awesome, a must see.

Another Korean Movie I enjoyed was The Yellow Sea

Heard of these, have them in a online shopping chart haha, but haven't bought them yet.

We should probably also have an asian cinema thread, I already have a ton of stuff from another board that can be shared.

Here are a few movies that I have been suggested.

  1. Nowhere To Hide (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3

  2. Memories Of Murder (2003) (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)DVD Region 3

  3. 3-Iron (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3

  4. Election (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region All
  5. I'm A Cyborg, But That's OK (2006) (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3

  6. Once A Thief (1991) (DVD) (Digitally Remastered & Restored) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3
  7. Vital (2004) (DVD) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3

  8. Ghost Punting (1992) (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)

Now, rather you like these or not I have no idea. I haven't saw them either so you'll have to actually find a trailer if any of the names interest you. As I watch them, I can talk a bit more about them in the future atleast.

  9. Lust cuation- Ang Lee, many of you probably saw it. Pretty good film I think .
  10. Love and Honor- good japanese film about a man that goes blind.
Shinjuku incident with jackie chan was alright too. Atleast one of his better newer films.

If any of you enjoy shaw brothers, a few that I really enjoyed

My Young Auntie (semi convervative woman, put in a few shy moments, pretty good)
The Delightful Forest - really enjoyed this one, has ti lung, a farily popular character in the sb world. (he was jackie chans father in the 2nd drunken master film) He is basically a prisoner and does some traveling, the music is pretty good. There is a blu ray release as well.

No idea what big man japan is... ha... looks... strange perhaps. I think I still own machine girl.

I haven't seen any of those. Your best bet for foreign movies would be Plainview, he loves them, and Ketto too. I am somewhat of noobie when it comes to non-martial art Asian movies. Have to say though, the Koreans do pump out some quality stuff.

yeah, gotta be something there you'd like. I'll give some more ideas once I have actually seen them myself.

It was OK, but nowhere near as great as the first. Worth a watch if you have nothing else of note to see.

Also, Wolf of Wall street really should have been on my list. It is fantastic.

No one does craziness like Japan. But anyway, how do you get this movie. Such film are pretty hard to get in my local movie rental store.

I think I saw The Machine Girl with Netflix. Same for many of the other really weird japanese movies like Big Man Japan, Robo Geisha, and Meatball Machine.

So many good movies mentioned already.
30 minutes or less: great little comedy in vein of zombieland or hot rod.
Red cliff part
1&2: epic war movies from John Woo, I'd rank it up there with saving private Ryan as best war movie.
Hatchet 2: Captures everything there is to love about cheesy 80's slashers and takes it to a new level.
Woochi: it's like an anime come to life! Really clever movie though.

I actually have red cliff 1, didn't realize it was actually that good though. Haven't watched it yet.

I'm still looking around for some of the more suggested titles, a little hard to find a few of them for cheap here.

I ended up picking up les miserables for my friend, no idea if it's worth watching for me.. also picked up the wolf of wallstreet.

I saw a movie called "the machine" I like sci fi but they are usually very hit or miss. What about this one?

The machine, as in this ?

If so, I'll tell you my opinion on Wednesday/Thursday as I will be borrowing it from a friend.

Yeah, i could buy it ... but it could be terrible... or raelly good lol. There have been movies I have stopped watching completely after 10 min or so. It didn't sound too bad on the back of the case atleast.

Watched Dredd, was pretty good. Overall I think the movie did well and better than I would have expected it to. It had a pretty old-school feel to it for the most part. Didn't have a lot of cheesey scenes or what you would typically find in an ac tion movie today. With a lot of typical outside city scenes. Felt pretty good and there wouldn't be a lot I could complain about in this one. I also picked up Planet of the Apes as suggested in this thread.

I only wish dredd was a little longer perhaps. An hour and a half is ok and good sometimes, but when the movie is actually good a extra 20 min wouldn't hurt for me.

I thought the Length was perfect, but after the news of no sequel, or it being very unlikely... I wish Dredd was 5 hours long:(

Planet Of The Apes is good, but is a lot slower than many were expecting.

prisoners isnt a prison film. it's a mystery thriller with intensity, and ill leave it at that for sake of spoilers. must watch if your a fan of the genre (it reminded me of zodiac in a lot ways, cept more head-on)

i might start a 'top 10' thread to see people's lists and grab some recommendations that way

I rented "Prisoners" last weekend and was pleasantly surprised how good the movie was, I recommend it as well.

.
Full metal jacket. I actually watched this in the barrack, with my company (or rather Battery) mates. So much epic moments. (But a bit sad one of my mate is not around anymore though. :()
But I think its the type of movie, you need go through military training to fully enjoyed the first part.

In fact I also watched saving Private Ryan in the camp hall, when I was in basic training, but I did watched it in the cinema.

Me love you long long
