Beware of Gamestop !

So, you admit that it happens, and that there's a store policy out there allowing it. This isn't something that a few disgruntled gamers make up. You can google tons and tons of people telling the same story all over the country.

Of course it happens. Not as often as you think. Still not seeing the issue but hey, it's your right not to buy it. Trust me, you walk away and the next customer buys it.

That would be fine if people knew what they were buying, but many do not know that their "new" game is not new.

The whole thing is deceptive to customers. They carefully slice the seal or even replace it. If there's nothing wrong with the policy, why go to the trouble to hide it?

Just rub some peanut butter on it and the scratches will come right out. No worries.

A print out and a dummy cases cost money and looks bad. And we reseal the game so if you change your mind and the seal is not broken that we placed on the game it can be returned. So yes.

And this is a good thing how? I mean they only employee 17k, most of them high school and college students. And used games allow many less fortunate to enjoy gaming.

Yea but how are we, the consumers to know if the game was not taken home by an employee or misplaced with a used copy? With a factory sealed copy there is no question if the game is used or not. If I ever buy games there and they try and pull that crap on me I request a factory sealed copy and if they don't have one I go somewhere else.

If the factory seal is broken, that is no longer considered a brand new game IMO. I don't care if it wasn't played or not. Seal broken = no longer new.

Gamestop is a cesspool and nobody should ever give them your hard earned money. I can't wait until Digital Distribution sends them into oblivion.
Gamestop exclusive DLC will keep them around for longer than they should.

I haven't been to Gamestop since I got my drivers license. They're a terrible store.

Sure they know. We tell them that it's the last copy and the gut it so the disk isn't stolen. I'd say 99% don't care. The other one percent who take issue will either allow me to find them another copy at another store of they just walk. Either way it will be sold.

And as for the seal, only 360 games have one and we cut it down the middle because that's the easiest way to open it.

Look, you don't have to ever buy one but don't paint this picture that we are doing something nefarious.

People will buy new cars with hundreds of miles on it but won't buy a $60 game that was gutted and has zero RPM's on it.

And another thing, corporate has us change games from new to used all the time. Games that have never been played are sold as used all the time. And trust me, that happens much more than gutted new games.

Not in my (and many others) personal experience. I've gotten home and noticed the seal cut (it is almost impossible to tell unless you actually try to open it). I've never been told about it.

I'm not saying every store is the same, there are obviously thousands of them, but I've had similar problems at more than one location. I'm sure there are places that are honest and up front about it (and it isn't a big deal as long as the disk is correct and everything is included), but I can tell you more than once that all places are not.

I'm not the kind of guy who goes looking for this kind of thing. You get home with your "new" game and find the seal already broken and it rubs people the wrong way.

Well that mole hill is one of the reasons I don't shop there anymore. My ex wife used to work there and she and her coworkers would bring home games all of the time. This was the gamestop at the Florida mall. It was actually policy like an employee rental. These games are definitely not new.

You never read a damn this I posted. How are we ensured that it has 0 RPM's on the disc? There have been reports of gamestop employees taking games home before. With a factory seal, there is 0 question. Idk what was so hard to understand about that, you are basically taking Gamestop's word that it was never used.

Calm down Charlie Brown. I work for gamestop and have said that it does happen from time to time so not sure what "damn this I posted". Anywho, the mass majority have never been used and those who have need to be returned in perfect condition. It they are damaged in any way the employee is forced to purchase the game and is banned from renting again.

Like I said, you don't have to buy it, it will sell anyway. They always do. You seem to be making this out like its some mass behind closed door conspiracy when in fact it is common knowledge that hasn't stopped people from buying them. So while I'm sure there are unscrupulous people at certain locations (we have over 6300 by the by), most of us follow the rules and are open about the policy.

I worked at gamestop a several years ago and we were never even told we could take games home, nobody at that store did it.

Okay, so why would I want to go to Gamestop and get games that have the possibility of being opened and possibly even played by employees that they consider new, when I can just got to walmart or Bestbuy or order online for a sealed copy that I know was never played for a fact?

Just like why would I want to pre order a game from gamestop? For instance, when I got GTA 5 I didn't preorder it even though GS nagged me horrendously when i went to GS to get my girlfriend a game. When I can, at midnight go to my local 24hr Walmart and get the game without the hassle of waiting in any kind of line?

You are misunderstanding. I'm not trying to change your mind I'm just correcting your information. Now as for why preorder with us over BB or Walmart. Simple, trades, guaranteed limited editions and exclusive preorder items. If none of incise you then shop where ever. Believe me we wouldn't want to lose you as a customer but no one would miss your obvious phobias and paranoia over if the last copy of a new, gutted game has ever been in a system.

Buddy of mine worked at a gamestop once and he rented a few games for his Wii. So I know that much is true.

No offense but trade ins is the last thing I would want from GS, a brand new game will usually trade in for 30 dollars if traded in like a week after release. I'd rather sell it to a friend or keep it.

All of this is the reason I pretty much switched to PC gaming primarily. I don't have to deal with GS's unbelievably hassling employees. I hate being asked 3 times if I want to pre order a game and when i say no they continue to try and persuade me. If I wanted to preorder a game I would have told you prior or I would have said Yes the first time.

I went to pick up Enemy Territory Quake Wars for PC because it is not on DD and gamestop was the ONLY place that had it in stock. I was asked 3 times if I wanted to pre order GTA 5. Then was basically put down for not doing so. Needless to say when the game came out I went and bought it at walmart who had 50+ copies and I wasn't hassled into pre ordering anything or asked to buy a game informer subscription and did not have to wait in any kind of line just to get it.

Come on man grow a pair. They are doing their job servicing their customers.

As for trading. Selling to a friend is fine but keeping it makes it worth zero if you aren't playing it. I'd rather get something for it than have a huge collection of something I'll never play again that loses value daily.

And you can buy PC games online, no need to deal with the apparently overly aggressive GSA's who make you nervous.
