Blade - Rated R - Feb. 14, 2025

Just rewatched OG Blade....
Prob my favorite marvel superhero movie.
And prob the best casting of a superhero ever, amazing performance imo.
The CGI looks dated but they didn't go overboard with it so it's okay.
I wonder what badmonk thinks about the fight scenes in this trilogy?
Blade 1 & 2 still hold up. Fun movies.

I've wondered how the effects in 2 hold up, I remember thinking they were incredible at the time. Pretty crazy that a person who now holds Oscars both for best director and best picture once directed a Blade movie.

It looks much better than the first one. The burning fx on the killed vamps looks much better (not great though lol). There's a few scenes with pure CGI characters fighting and jumping around but it's dark and the camera isn't really close so it looks.... okay for an old movie.

The first 1 was decent but Blade 2 is the best. The 3rd was garbage.

The only issue with CGI I remember was in the final battle scene of B1.

Yeah idd that 3 is terrible. Blade 2 was great and I didn’t mind the digi doubles, it was pretty ground breaking as it was made in 2001. The scene where it’s a full CG Wes Snipes and he is dragged around by his leg, then thrown and lands, actually was pretty good, especially for the time.

I didn’t mind the full CG fight in Matrix Reloaded where agent smith looks like he stepped out of a video game, again around 2002, so pretty impressive for the time. The one where he fought a 100+ Smiths.

It is ridiculous.

WTF are Disney doing. s*** scripts, terrible writers, woke s*** up the wazooo. They are literally destroying themselves and this universe they crafteer with the Infinty Stone saga.
Well Marvel could be to blame for the same, they’ve been doing it since the start and it’s part of who they are. I was like in high school with the whole “not my Spider-Man” was a thing. They already casted the beyonder and show off what he looks like, so my guess the mcu will cave in on itself. Hell the next Deadpool is officially part of the mcu, my guess is he has that Time Machine and somehow flick things up and enter the MCU-616 universe, maybe bring Wolverine with him, cos grandfathered in contracts from fox (which aren’t over for a few years from now, the hulks ends mid next year)

Isn't Marvel and Disney the same thing?

Sorta, like Sony, Colombia Pictures, Sony Mobile, Sony Financals, SCE, and Crunchy Roll, just to name a few. I’m sure Sony allows them to work independently over their shoulder.

If one were to be at blame it would be Kevin feige, marvel entertainment and marvel comics are now just one thing and under his thumb. He might very well be spread thin amongst it all, along with his own Star Wars project and other stuff I can’t recall atm. His first project was the X-men movies, I think he was an assistant/grunt.

But also marvel has been so pretty much the same thing for decades, it’s a Stan lee thing I guess 😆 rip

Disney knows the audience will gladly keep coming back for mediocre content

I wont. I'm pretty much done with their TV shows. I'll give Secret Invasion a shot and Daredevil (hoping it is like that of the Netflix show). If these are meh I'm done done with the shows.

And that is the sad truth. MCU has always been overrated but people constantly trying to defend everything after End Game is getting sad now. Spiderman was alright but so much dog s*** has been released.
They need a new formula but all they will do is add X-Men

Hat tip to The Wolf King

I think that Blade lost its director, and honestly, a refocus is probably a good thing. After watching Warewolf By Night, I have to wonder if maybe a movie or series from composer Michael Giacchino might be a good path, since he really did something unique and different, there.

What does Feige really do, in practice, with the movies? Direct, write, produce?
Produce, but also map out the MCU, but he doesn’t have total control of whatever may happen, like the closures of theaters or directors dropping out or corporate firing directors. He’s the Phil Spencer, of the MCU, or now, James Gun to the DCU….or how Arnold Schwarzenegger was the face of the bodybuilding world.
