Hey guys this is the fan/whirring noise my xbox one makes playing blu ray's only.haven't tried a physical game as I'm going digital. I hear it when I put tv on mute and quiet parts of movie from about 5 ft away. Seems pretty loud almost like a 360.this normal when playing a blu ray? It's not a grinding or buzzing really and it reads the disc fine so don't think its a faulty drive

Certainly not encouraging. Have you used it after playing games for a couple hours? That's what I did perhaps maybe just fan working extra hard? It sounds more like a fan than the actual disc drive but there's not a lot of heat coming from the vent

Well I don't have the 500 in my account for the advanced exchange hold. I thought they'd just charge like a buck to make sure the account is real and then if I wouldn't return old one they'd then charge 500. Anyone else done this? Do they actually tie up 500 dollars that you can't spend in your account?

Haha yea. So seriously can someone just answer if their blu ray is completely silent? It's just fan/humming sound

Mine makes a bit of noise (as if it's scanning the disc, I guess) for a few seconds after loading a BluRay disc. Other than that, it's silent.

The Xbox One can tell how hot it is, and the fan is variable speed. It can actually dial back the power and function at a lower than optimum power level, and rev the fan all the way up to maximum speed to dissipate heat. Make sure yours is in a well ventilated area, with none of the vents blocked. Disk drives produce a lot more heat than hard drives. Yours seems to be functioning normally. The noise you are hearing is the fan, which is normal when playing a disk.

Maybe this will help further as some say normal others say not normal. This is one of me moving back you can faintly hear it still. Thanks for all the responses

Yea I mean I knew all that. Just some people have said its normal and others have said not normal and there's runs completely silent. I assume yours does the same thing mine does?

I watched Blu-ray movies this week, and my Xbox One is completely silent.

That's very quiet compared to the original 360 SKU or a PS4, even. People with consoles in better ventilated locations or with even a little ambient noise in their home, might not ever hear it, even if it did kick into high gear. All it means is that the cooling system is doing it's job, and just make sure air flow around the unit is not blocked at any of the vents. You'll get a popup warning on screen in the event of a catastrophic failure of the cooling system. Putting the unit in a constricted space like a home entertainment center shelf, and/or next to other electronics that produce heat, will cause the fan to rev up more often.

Well it's definitely well ventilated it's not on shelf it's on the top of the entertainment center but unless it totally craps out or gets really loud I'm not gonna worry about it.
