boston event

1) is the X1 sitting vertical like they advised us not to do?
2) dem loooong load times.
3) wish they would be in my area.

Forza looks nice, as expected. Glad to see some out of car gameplay, I can't stand cockpit view.

Some long ass load times though, almost comically so. There's like 30 secs of gameplay in that vid.

Damn, I wasn't even paying attention that this was happening. I def. woulda took a trip to the Boston MS store to check it out.

Over 10 times the amount of RAM.. no improvement in the storage technology or the ability to get data into RAM faster from the HDD = increased load times.

We'll see lots of open-world style games with no loading required once the game is initially loaded, but other than that.. expect to be staring at loading screens a lot. Especially early in the generation.. Devs are likely to spend quite a bit of time on the issue.. hopefully we don't end up with weird pop-in (like Halo 2) or un-skippable cut scenes. Smart devs will start loading the data for your last save as soon as the game is initialized.. games will attempt to "start" with as little data in RAM as possible, etc.. but I imagine early launch games will be missing these optimizations.

The ability to change out your HDD for an SSD or hybrid drive on the PS4 might really be a huge improvement for those with the cash and willingness to do so.

Would be pretty sweet to put a SSD in it.

The load times didn't seem particularly excessive to me, especially considering some of the games that I've played this gen. Additionally, the X1 can be seen plainly in a horizontal position in the second video.

I thought that it was confirmed that SSDs would not work with PS4?

Now if we could just get the costs of SSD down a bit it might be worthwhile !

Never read this. There are questions of whether or not PS4 will have any specific controller detection of SSD, which could limit performance gains and potentially the lifetime of the SSD (data is often written differently, you don't ever defrag an SSD, etc.) but I see no reason it wouldn't "not support" SSD.

PS3 supports them.. theoretically with so much more data being loaded into memory, you'd see significantly larger gains on the PS4.

I really don't think the problem is weather or not it will work ( which we don't know), but rather the cost. To get an SSD that is equivalent to 500 gigs you could buy another console! I plan on going all digital this gen, so it's probably a no go for me.
